+122 People keep their houses way too clean, amirite?

Keep your house clean. You're immune system is getting enough of a workout simply going to the grocery store because people in general are disgusting. Unless you live in a completely sterile world, you're fine. My mother had an auto immune disease and she grew up in a tent because her mother was an alcoholic for 2 years of her teenage life.

I don't know, lots of people in developing countries die under the age of 40 so I'd rather just wipe my kitchen down

It depends on what you consider too clean house. Mine? Not at all. Also, consider that a lot of people do tidy up when they expect a visit. It's just a show quite often.

No one has allergies because they died.

That's not really how the immune system works - it's not a muscle. People are exposed to plenty of pathogens just by living. Unless they never leave their house, having a super clean home is fine.

> If you ever go to a developing country no one has allergies because they grew up being exposed to a variety of germs regularly They also have cholera

People misunderstand the hygiene hypothesis. No, it's not good for you to be exposed to bacteria and viruses. I have 5000 allergies and autoimmune issues and did not grow up in a super clean house. I was in the ocean as a tiny baby and getting licked head to toe by dogs. Having a clean house isn't the same as having a sterile house anyway.

Odd example here but I'm a soldier in the Israeli-Hamas war happening right now and there are over a hundred of us men and women sitting out here in an open field, with few hygiene options and covered head-to-toe in grease and mud 24/7, and after over 10 days nobody here got so much as an upset stomach to my knowledge. One man got an infection because he didn't wash his face for several days. Your skin seems to just kind of absorb all the gunk quite harmlessly.

You clearly don't go out much. Also; *most* people primarily only really actively clean when expecting company

And you're exposed to all those things when you leave the house

You are correct OP

Sorta. Persistent dust is pretty awful for your lungs though. I don't know how you clean germs without cleaning dirt and dust.

I understand cleanliness but being a bit dirty feels good imo

If my house is dirty my brain starts trying to crawl down my spine and out my ass to go fix it itself. I'd go insane intentionally leaving things out or dirty.
