+349 The Welsh word for microwave is "popty ping," literally translated to "oven that goes ping." This is much more acceptable than the english-language "microwave," amirite?

I disagree give the fact that a microwave is a machine that emits MICROWAVES to heat things :p

You are correct. It sounds to me like the Welsh are a bunch of 3 year old infants making up silly names for things because they are unable to pronounce English language words properly.

Yeah, it's pretty awesome hey? Except we never really use the word "popdy" to mean oven -we usually just say "ffwrn" :) also, the welsh way of saying "butterfly" is "iar fach yr haf" - or summers little chicken XD

UGH, no it's not! It's actually a "meicrodon" not a "popty ping"

As in welsh as in maybe other languages, some words are indirect translations e.g. the word police in welsh is heddlu which come from hedd/heddwyn meaning peace and Llu meaning force, when two words come together the last word takes a mutation on the last word, so Ll becomes l; there are many examples in welsh, when you analysis a in welsh, translate a word in welsh and translate it literally e.g. mermaid and private are another two expamles; some places do use popty as, bakery as well as oven.

It is what it is. popty ping sounds like a kids toy. They must just use it for popcorn in Welch world
