You can't describe something as pretentious without sounding pretentious yourself. amirite?

"It's pretentious" is the laziest critique anyone can possibly have for something. It's fine not to like something but come up with an actual reason. Explain WHY it's pretentious. If all you can say is "it's pretentious" then what you're really saying is you just didn't understand it.

i think i understand what op means. i often see the word used to dismiss things without explanation, which is ironically a pretentious thing to do. that doesn't mean it's always pretentious though lol
