Michael Jordan is obviously more famous than Messi and Ronaldo, amirite?
by Anonymous1 year ago
American moment
by Anonymous1 year ago
You're not going to believe this... but there are more people outside of the US than in it. I hope you were sat down for that revelation.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I'm saying lmao.
by Anonymous1 year ago
🫨🫨🫨🫨
by Anonymous1 year ago
Your opinion is factually incorrect.
by Anonymous1 year ago
This is a prime example of how Americans live in a huge bubble
by Anonymous1 year ago
I misread the title as Michael Jackson and I was like 'I guess there is an argument to be had here', but then I realized you said Michael Jordan and I'm dumbfounded.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Man I am constantly getting these two mixed up, glad to see it's universal.
by Anonymous1 year ago
What Michael Jackson shoes are you wearing bro
by Anonymous1 year ago
Football is the worlds biggest sport and messi and ronaldo are the most famous players of the world biggest sport, so yeah I reckon messi and ronaldo are more famous/ well known across the world.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Jesus Christ everyone keeps making this same dumb argument. You guys only look at fans. True fame also takes into account people who know you despite not being fans. How can a man have global fame if he's "only famous to Americans". He had worldwide fame, get it through your head, jeez
by Anonymous1 year ago
Please just try and expand your brain beyond the constraints of America. Please I'm begging you.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Even with the criteria you mentioned messi and ronaldo are still more famously known
by Anonymous1 year ago
Gotta love Americans not understanding how much bigger the rest of the world is than them....
by Anonymous1 year ago
I'm pretty sure very one knows either Messi or Ronaldo, but I doubt some random Somalian boy knows who Michael jordan is.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Football is the number one sport in the world. Basketball is only really popular in America and maybe a couple other countries. Not to mention jordan played over 20 years ago while Ronaldo and Messi still play to this day. Sorry to burst your America centric bubble but your just plain wrong.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Basketball is really popular in China, where the most famous player is not Jordan
by Anonymous1 year ago
Unless you're outside America, it's called soccer.
by Anonymous1 year ago
God this is why people despise some americans
by Anonymous1 year ago
They make it so easy don't they 🤣
by Anonymous1 year ago
Soccer is the #1 most popular sport in the world with an estimated fandom of 3.5 billion people.
Basketball is ranked at #9 with around 400 million fans. Even volleyball is more popular in the world than basketball with a fandom of 900 million people.
by Anonymous1 year ago
football *
by Anonymous1 year ago
It's also called soccer get over it
by Anonymous1 year ago
Only to Americans.
by Anonymous1 year ago
FYI, in Ireland we call it soccer as well because we already have a football. Think it's probably the same for Aus.
by Anonymous1 year ago
"Soccer" is a British word.
by Anonymous1 year ago
You think my mum knows what a pair of Jordans are?
by Anonymous1 year ago
Only reason I know about Michael Jordan is because of Space Jam.
Basketball isn't a popular sport outside the west cuz it requires a proper court whereas with football you just need a ball and a big empty area.
Messi and Ronaldo even dominate Michael Jackson in terms of popularity now I'd reckon. A third world kid who can't even speak English wouldn't know about Michael Jordan ( a very American sport ) or Michael Jackson ( an English singer ).
by Anonymous1 year ago
Now I know you're definitely delusional bro Jordan is one thing but Michael JACKSON is even crazier. You guys just can't step outside of the lens of being a soccer fan and realize that to every non fan Jordan is literally mythic status of fame
by Anonymous1 year ago
I get that it's hard for an american to understand that basketball is nowhere a big a sport as football. I already said why. I've never played or watched football but I know about Messi or Ronaldo because everyone is talking about them 24/7. Illiterate third world children also count in the demographics , they don't know about basketball, foreign singing and neither of the MJs.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Americans when non-americans don't watch american sports 😮😮😮
by Anonymous1 year ago
You can't seem to step outside of the lens of being an American. How ironic
by Anonymous1 year ago
Maybe in America.
You ask anybody over 40 in the rest of the world who Michael Jordan is, they probably won't have a clue.
I only know him from Space Jam.
by Anonymous1 year ago
The most watched NBA finals game ever was game 6, 1998, with a viewership of 35.89 million. This was Jordan's last championship, and at the time was meant to be his last game in the NBA. This year the finals peaked at 17.88 million.
This year's world cup finals, Lionel Messi's last world cup game, had a live viewership of 1.5 billion.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Nah, he's not as famous outside the US. And the US's population is not that high. You're the delusional one, nothing out of the ordinary for an american tho.
by Anonymous1 year ago
If these soccer players are so famous how come they havent made a movie of them where they go to space and play soccer against aliens for the fate of the world?
by Anonymous1 year ago
You're so right, I stand corrected
by Anonymous1 year ago
You need to learn how to read genuinely all you kids know is looking at the population numbers. Let me dumb it down so you can understand. Fame is not just about number of fans. True fame is when people who are NOT your fans still know who you are. Jordan was statistically at one point third most famous in the world. Under only the Pope and Princess Diana (You probably never heard of them because you have no life experience). Tell me how can a man become third most famous person alive if he's ONLY famous in America? The answer is he can't. Michael Jordan had worldwide fame. When your brain develops you'll learn to understand higher level abstract concepts instead of just trying to throw population numbers at people smarter than you.
by Anonymous1 year ago
source that he's the third most famous person in the world?
by Anonymous1 year ago
Source: OP's arse
by Anonymous1 year ago
I tried to find your source sweetie and it only applies to america. He's not well known outside of your country be a big boy and accept it
by Anonymous1 year ago
Want to bet OP also thinks the superbowl is the most watched thing on tv? Even though that's wrong by an order of magnitude just amongst annual events.
by Anonymous1 year ago
The Super Bowl isn't even shown on tv in my country 😂
by Anonymous1 year ago
*football
by Anonymous1 year ago
nobody even watches basketball outside the US
by Anonymous1 year ago
This has to be a European trying to make Americans look bad
by Anonymous1 year ago
I disagree, in US this is probably true, but in other countries this doesn't aply. I'm from Brazil, the culture of football here is more expressive, so obviously football players are very know. The average brazilian wouldn't have idea who is MJ.
by Anonymous1 year ago
3.5 billion people watched the World Cup in 2022. Almost 1.5 billion watched the final match. Messi was the main star of the event. It's impossible for anyone who watched the World Cup, even someone who has never watched football before, not to know who Messi is after that game. Therefore, kindly explain how Michael Jordan could match such media reach, especially nearly two decades after his prime.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Ya this ain't it chief
by Anonymous1 year ago
American moment. Also, your opinion is unpopular, but also dumb and wrong. The NBA is nowhere near soccer as far as how many fans it attracts. Period.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I am American too, but even I know that what sports are popular here are not the same as other countries. They call soccer "futball" across the pond, and it's much more popular than basket ball or football over there jsyk
by Anonymous1 year ago
Which band does Jordan play for? Or does he sing?
by Anonymous1 year ago
Least delusional American.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Life must be so simple as an American 🤣
by Anonymous1 year ago
I pray this is bait
by Anonymous1 year ago
Is Michael jordan the Messi of basketball or something? Bit confused
by Anonymous1 year ago
I think Michael Jordan may have been the Ronaldo of the 90s. Less and less people will have heard of him.
I'm not American so I only heard of him as the guy in space jam
by Anonymous1 year ago
Honestly i doubt this is true only measuring the US never mind the rest of the world.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Op, the entire world is not America-centric. It's literally only America that thinks so.
by Anonymous1 year ago
This isn't an unpopular opinion. You're just factually incorrect. Only Americans and Canadians know about Michael Jordan
by Anonymous1 year ago
Op fighting for his life here 😆
by Anonymous1 year ago
American ignorance is a special kind of ignorance. The "Main Character" of countries.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Maybe just the release year of space jam
by Anonymous1 year ago
I've never heard of Messi or Ronaldo.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Today I learned there's this guy called Michael Jordan who used to play baseball
by Anonymous1 year ago
Who's Michael jordan?
by Anonymous1 year ago
"Just because stupid Americans don't know Ronaldo doesn't make him less famous"
"By the way people in [country where soccer is the most popular sport] think Ronaldo is way more famous"
"...Well yes...they still do know Jordan despite living in Footballandia, but that's not the point!"
Literally proving why Jordan is more famous
by Anonymous1 year ago
Ask anyone in the Middle East & Asia who Michael Jordan is the majority would not have a clue, Messi & Ronaldo are known throughout. Heck, there was a boy in Afghanistan of all places who had a DIY Messi jersey made from a plastic bag which went viral and allowed him to meet Messi in person.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Most famous sportsman in the world, perhaps. Even though football/soccer is the most popular sport in the world, half the world has no interest. The most famous person in the world is, probably, an American president
by Anonymous1 year ago
Maybe 20 years ago at the height of his fame.
by Anonymous1 year ago
The only Michaels people outside of our country care about are Jackson and Tyson.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I'm going to use this as an example whenever somebody says "there are no wrong opinions". Yikes
by Anonymous1 year ago
Such an ignorant take lol
by Anonymous1 year ago
Maradona, Pele, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Muhammad Ali are definitely more famous than Jordan. Even David Beckham may probably be more famous than Michael Jordan.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Some of those are a big stretch. Assuming some of those are cricket players? Most of the world has 0 interest in cricket.
