Bill Russell is the GOAT of ALL sports. amirite?
by Anonymous1 year ago
Being on the team that won the most championships is a great team achievement but Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain were better individual players

Being the captain and for 3 years the coach is more than Being on the team.

Those are also great team achievements too - but the GOAT is more about being clutch, for the last play to win the game it's Michael to take the shot

Maybe in that particular sport. Not in ALL SPORTS. that's a wide claim.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Not even in that particular sport. OP's only argument is titles won. By that metric then you could say Robert Horry > Michael Jordan

ALL SPORTS
Did well in kids basketball then transition to a sport that is only played in any meaningful way in 1 single country.

Basketball is played seriously in lots and lots of countries. It's just that unlike other sports the gulf between the NBA and the other leagues are too far apart
by Anonymous1 year ago
That's super, but I said he transitioned TO a sport that is only played meaningfully in 1 country.

I've always said Russell was the best NBA player ever. I wouldn't say best athlete ever, since there's two sport athletes like bo Jackson. Even single sport athletes are considered better.

Is this an unpopular opinion?

Russell had more HOF teammates than any athlete in pro sports history. And he was mediocre offensively. The only GOAT associated with that team was Red Auerbach.

You need a team to win not just one player
by Anonymous1 year ago
According to OP, Robert Horry is better than Michael Jordan.
