+165 kind of gross that we dont wash the inside of our shoes, amirite?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Isn't that what socks are for?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

CLEAN sock, every time that is

by Anonymous 8 months ago

With this logic pants don't need washed bc of underwear.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Since you're bringing logic to the party, is your underwear full length? Do you wash only the insides of your pants?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Socks doing the heavy lifting.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

And for the tough jobs there are antibacterial sprays. Godsend for my workboots.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

For me it was a boot dryer. I use it daily and my boots went from foul to zero smell.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I recently bought antibacterial fabric spray for my couch. Could I use that on my shoes I wonder?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Speak for yourself nasty

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Agreed! At LEAST wash the removable insoles.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

What do you use?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Socks, the dishwasher or laundry and regularly replaced insoles

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I'm sorry, are you saying you run your shoes through the dishwasher? Tf?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

The dishwasher is essentially an autoclave, it can be used to clean/sanitize just about anything, do you only put dishes in there? I also put my reusable paper towels dog toys and menstrual cups in there

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I also put my hot tub filters in there, for their monthly "wash in solution" maintenance item, as well as reusable air filters from things like the computer fans or the wall ac unit in my garage. Just turn off the heated dry, and you can put just about anything in there.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

im crying 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

by Anonymous 8 months ago

OP "Kinda gross we don't wash the insides of our shirts."

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Do you not wear clean socks?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Yeah but my feet sweat right through them

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Change your socks multiple times a day. It'll get rid of bad shoe smell as well

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Look at mr rich guy over here with his mountain of socks.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Lysol works when needed.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I've also heard that spraying them with cheap vodka works and gets rid of odor

by Anonymous 8 months ago

that's pretty much unscented febreeze

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I'd dilute it with water, but it works for clothing too

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Lysol kills things, but doesn't clean it if you don't wash it out. If you don't clean it all the nasty micro creepy crawlers come right back.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Lol bruh they come right back no matter what you do

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I wash the insoles and blast the inside of the shoes with antibacterial febreeze.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Hol' up, y'all don't do this? I throw em in the laundry as a load and that seems to do the trick

by Anonymous 8 months ago

My leather wingtip dress shoes wouldnt do well

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I'm punk rock trash, dress shoes aren't even on my radar lol All I'll guarantee this method for is sneakers

by Anonymous 8 months ago

You sound very clean for punk rock trash

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I'm a bundle of paradox and eccentricities lol

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Hit me with your best punk rock paradox.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Fire awaaayyyy!!

by Anonymous 8 months ago

A very large portion of the crowd has SPD, so cleanliness can be a hidden component. Also, black is hard to keep looking nice.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Yeah I have autism which comes with it's own host of sensory issues lol You are spot on

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Same. >.< Dark clothes are low visual stim; punk/metal music's high audio stim. Perfect.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

oh my god I feel so heard and understood lol Thank you for that, may your textures be pleasant!

by Anonymous 8 months ago

And may your baubles be stimmy! Go in peace my friend. :)

by Anonymous 8 months ago

What about a pair of doc martens tho. They're a big punk shoe. Slowly coming a teenage girl shoe though.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Slowly? It was a popular gothy teen girl shoe in the ‘90s

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Combine water with a few drops of shampoo and baking soda to form a wet paste. Wipe the full interior of the shoe with the paste and allow to dry for 15 minutes. Wipe away the dry paste with a clean rag. Was shown this process by the sales guy at Florsheim. it leaves them smelling great and gets out a surprising amount of dirt from leather shoes.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I'm told that breaks the washer?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

it does if they're steel toed shoes. But I wear them out before I need to wash them. Shoes can go in the laundry, just put some towels with it to dampen the impact.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Hasn't broken mine yet and I've been doing this my whole life. Not saying you're wrong, maybe my washer is more resilient than most, but in my experience it's fine

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Usually because it makes the wash load unbalanced, making it difficult or impossible for the washer to fully do a spin at the end of the wash. Highly depends on the type of washer you have and what else is in it at the time, as well as the random distribution of the items inside the machine. Also, as an aside, don't put shoes in the dryer. The heat will heat will degrade the glue used to hold various parts of the sole and outers together, and make them wear out faster.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Just set it to no spin

by Anonymous 8 months ago

It depends on the shoes since putting them in the washing machine can ruin certain shoes I have

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Same

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Even sandals?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I don't wear sandals. I'm on the spectrum and I like the feeling of compression on my feet

by Anonymous 8 months ago

How do you feel about cycling shoes?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Did a quick google They look like a game changer lol

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I never wash my sandals, they're all good quality leather, though, they don't develop a smell of any kind.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I wonder about belts… first thing you touch after the toilet but before you wash your hands. And you never wash your belt.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

No doubt! Nobody talks about belts. It's like this nasty truth society has chosen to ignore.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I don't tighten the belt until I wash my hands. Also, I don't wipe my ass with my hands, I use TP.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

You should totally wash your belt. I usually use cloth belts and throw them in the laundry with everything else. They get washed just as often as my pants. The idea that this might not be normal is... disturbing.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I wash them sometimes

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I love how everyone here is like "Speak for yourself, I use a bacterial wipe and a fungicide thermal bath with dual encrusted sanitizers three times a week. Are you a disgusting person who doesn't clean their shoes and deserves to be imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay?"

by Anonymous 8 months ago

What do you mean, I absolutely throw my shoes in the wash at least 2 a month. Just let them air dry and they will be fine…drying them caused th glue to fall apart

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Clean feet and socks. Wash runners. Change out insoles and spot clean others. Also for sweaty feet use a foot spray and change socks often. Also helps keep foot ick away

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Put them in the washing machine

by Anonymous 8 months ago

And how do you dry them? Washing shoes is easy. Once that water is in them, it's going to be a week or two before they're dry, unless you have an electric shoe dryer.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Hopefully most people have more than one pair of shoes. Should have more than one anyway, and cycle through. Letting them properly dry out helps how long they last before falling apart, not just 8 hours overnight.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Things that take too long to dry become home to mold

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I put my runners in the dryer. If you don't like the around of them banging around in there tie the laces in a knot and close them in the dryer door so the shoes stay in place.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I'll chalk it up to cultural differences so I won't be mean. You're correct OP, that's why you should start washing the inside of your shoes too! Not as often as the outside, but do it once in a while ;)

by Anonymous 8 months ago

People wash the outside of their shoes? How?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Soap & toothbrush

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I'm stuck in the brainstorm phase now between some sort of shoe interior steamer and a dry shampoo type wipe.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

You know, many shoes can be washed.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

You don't do that??? I mean, cleaning the inside prevents fungus and keeps the shoe with a nice smell

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Funny but my running shoes are the freshest I own. I just wear them an hour or two every other day and let them dry until the next run. It seems giving shoes a break makes a huge difference.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I take out the insoles, wash them, and put them back in.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I mean I exclusively only wear shoes with socks and wear slippers inside so that my socks are clean whenever I put on a shoe so socks just solve the problem.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

By that reasoning I need never clean my shorts, as I am wearing boxers under them?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Your shorts experience exterior exposure. The inside of your shoes only come in contact with your socks.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I didn't think people washed the outside of their shoes, let alone the inside. I guess it depends on the shoes.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Wool. Socks. They are soft. Antimicrobial. Durable. They breathe so you feet won't sweat so bad. Socks are supposed to protect your shoes from your feet. But if you want a deep clean, go to a shoe repair guy. They know the secrets

by Anonymous 8 months ago

If my shoes get muddy enough I'll throw them in the washer and dryer. Feet are pretty far away from the orifices and are supposed to be somewhat dirty, so I'm not going to do that every time.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I know a guy that will **pay you** to lick the inside clean ….

by Anonymous 8 months ago

you don't throw them away when they start to smell?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I put my feet in socks not directly in the shoe then you change the socks everyday ,its a pretty good system Also put the shoes on a boot dryer when not wearing them keeps the moisture out and it's hard to beat putting on a nice warm pair of shoes on a cold morning

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I wash my shoes inside and out regularly.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Speak for yourself. My shoes get a hot water bath with some shoe-specific de-funkify and borax every week. Sun dry. Lysol in-between during the week.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I don't know who the heck you are talking about sir, my shoes go in the washing machine weekly.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

You don't wash your shoes? Shoes CAN go through the washer guys, and the dryer.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Had a roommate who would wash her shoes every few weeks, then dry them in the dryer which was right outside my bedroom while I worked from home.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

You dont wash the insides of your shoes? 🤮

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Clean feet clean socks you good

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Maybe YOU dont. Nasty bugger.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

"We"? Dude, throw them in the washing machine. Don't generalize into others, your lack of hygiene is not the standard.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Lol washing shoes is not the standard.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Just reoil it after washing it...

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Outside of spot-cleaning on the outside to clean them, you really aren't supposed to be throwing shoes into the washer. As far as that goes, unless they are waterproof, you aren't supposed to get most shoes sopping wet *at all*.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

So, you're telling me that the boots I constantly use for hiking are not supposed to get wet nor washed? Ok, whatever.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I guess you don't own leather shoes then...

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Wait....people don't wash their shoes? They make specific bags/apparatus to put them in the washing machine.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Try that with leather shoes and let me know how that goes.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Don't wear leather shoes....so..no.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Most of my shoes have removable, washable insoles. I have clorox wipes & bowling shoe spray for the rest.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

So you don't wear socks then? That's pretty gross

by Anonymous 8 months ago

That is what socks are dude wtf.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

The question is, do YOU wash the inside of your shoes?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

We do have to wash the inside of our shoes occasionally though

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Wait..... You don't wash your shoes?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Have you not heard of leather shoes?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

You should try crocs. Might open up some doors for you mentally. And wash your feet.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Tell me you hate feet without actually telling me. I spray the insides of my shoes, but I also don't wear them without socks. My girlfriend does sometimes, I'm not a fan of the practice myself.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Trainers go in the washing machine. >we dont wash the inside of our shoes We do.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I *especially* clean the insides of my shoes. Dont we all?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Literally never

by Anonymous 8 months ago

i think a lot of people do though???

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Well some apparently dont , many do! I dont wear sneakers or any machine washable shoes so my go to is using 70% alcohol to clean them in the inside, on finer shoes I dilute the alcohol with a bit of alcohol to be more gentle. A handheld steamer is also efficient, but again depends on the material and construction.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

You don't wash your shoes?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Do you not have nice shoes? Washing would destroy them.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Yall don't stick yours in the washer?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

You mean you don't wash your shoes or the insoles? What kind of heathens are you?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Speak for yourself weirdo

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Speak for yourself, Spartacus

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I once had a podiatrist recommend leaving tennis shoes out in the sunlight to "kill" fungus-causing bacteria. Obviously don't be putting your nice shoes out there, and do make sure it's sunny.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

You don't put your shoes in the washing machine?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

You don't wash the inside of your shoes?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Y'all don't wash your shoes?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

I put my shoes in the washer all the time. Never had a problem.

by Anonymous 8 months ago

You guys don't clean your shoes? Wet wipe inside and out every few days and spray some air freshener in too. Isn't this normal?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

What! Why don't you wash inside your shoes?

by Anonymous 8 months ago

Uh... You don't throw your sneakers into the washer? You don't clean them by hand????

by Anonymous 8 months ago
