It is and it isn't. I absolutely love mario2. One of my fav Marios and I've nearly played them all (super mario world is my all time fav). I'd probably rather play through it again than mario 1. It's just a super fun game. But Mario1 paved the way for all the other Marios and I'm glad most other Mario's are more like mario 1 than mario 2 if that makes sense.
