I'm confused, what would be the big difference if they were just one year older?
by Anonymous7 months ago
Would literally completely change the show.
According to op

One season less before viewer say "Hey! Shouldn't they be in college by now?"
by Anonymous7 months ago
What shows have main characters "leaving life events" at 16? What does "leaving life events" even mean? The only thing I've seen with 16 year olds in shows is that they have sweet 16 birthday parties, that's literally been it. This is a laughably minuscule thing to hold an opinion over…

I'm just saying would it be a huge difference if the main character is were 17 or 18..
by Anonymous7 months ago
What's the huge difference between 16 and 17?
by Anonymous7 months ago
Maybe you just need to broaden your tv horizons instead of watching kids shows
by Anonymous7 months ago
For many kids / teenagers it certainly is.

The problem with the kid being a senior in high school means the show only has 1 season really to grab the audience's attention and hold it. Think about high school shows out there now and in the past. Most of the time when the characters went to college, the popularity of the show plummeted. Starting the characters at 16 gives more time to keep the show running, while also letting the characters have freedom of a drivers license.

It's for demographic appeal obviously. A 13-15 year old can relate to a 16 year old because they know what's coming up in their lives, and a 17-18 year old can relate to a 16 year old because they just went through it. 16 bridges the gap best.
by Anonymous7 months ago
And it is absolutely the year of freedom for most kids. It's really the first year you start to truly feel independent.
by Anonymous7 months ago
You see, at 16, most teens gain a lot of independence in the form of a job and a driver's license
in general anyway

"I'm just saying will it be such a different if a character was 17??"
I think that's what the rest of us are asking haha
by Anonymous7 months ago
16 is a big year for a kid. Emotional, physical, and legal changes. About to be coming of age but not quite there. (Although some kids are forced to age up early). There's a lot going on & a lot of drama can be worked into the script about a 16-year old kid.
by Anonymous7 months ago
What shows specifically have 16 year olds…?
by Anonymous7 months ago
It's going well for the OP I see.
by Anonymous7 months ago
i mean quinceaneras are a thing when you turn 15, so i dont see why you think turning 16 isnt a big deal for some people
by Anonymous7 months ago
If you don't like a show don't watch it 🤷
by Anonymous7 months ago
Well a 17-18 year old actively hanging out with 14-16 year olds isn't common.
Turning 16 is when teens gain a lot of independence and start coming into themselves so a sweet 16 or a big party makes sense and it's relatable for teens
by Anonymous7 months ago
Tell that to the judge.
by Anonymous7 months ago
I won't watch a show with more than 1 teenager in it.

I remember on my 16th bday it was just a regular ass day 🤣 my family didn't even say happy bday
