+595 Wine was invented before vinegar. amirite?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

And the drunk before the hangover.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

We had ways to get drunk before we had bread. Humans have priorities.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Pretty awesome when they invented bread tho, you can get drunk and eat bread AT THE SAME TIME

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Jumped in to say this. Some anthropologists say bread was accidentally discovered in a failed beer-making attempt

Alcohol was discovered wayyyyy before wine was invented.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Probably not. Beer was invented in places that had grains Wine was invented in places that had fruit. I would say excess fruit was more common than excess grain. To go one step further, animals were getting drunk on soured fruit before humans made the first sharpened tool

Did you miss the part where I said alcohol was discovered wayyyy before wine was invented?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

What do you call alcohol made out of fruit then?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Alcohol. Alcohol is the name of the chemical that is created when yeast consumes sugar. Wine, though, is an invention: specific knowledge and techniques are used to produce what we call wine, and there are many different types of wine made from many different types of materials.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

So you are saying naturally fermented fruit is not wine even though it is exactly the same thing as adding yeast to juice.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Wine has alcohol in it, wine is not JUST alcohol. Fruit can ferment on the ground, which can also produce alcohol. Those two things occur completely separately. One is not the other.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Why do you repeat yourself so much? Let me rephrase the question again. What is the difference between naturally fermented fruit and artificially fermented fruit? After you answer that; How can a naturally occuring chemical like alcohol be invented?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Vinegar comes from the French term "vin aigre" which means "sour wine". It would be difficult to refer to something as "sour wine" if wine didn't come first… lol

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Plot twist, wine came *way* before the French language. Like 6000 years before.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

No way did you actually just say that.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

You can make vinegar out of other things, beer for example. So it would very much be possible to have vinegar before wine.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Well, at least a little while before!

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Y...yes? Also water is wet?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Water makes things wet, smart ass!

My very well educated sister didn't believe it when I told her. She did very well in organic chemistry.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

And pants before suspenders.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Wouldn't it have to be?
