That doesn't make boycotting hypocritical though. You can boycott something without telling everyone else they must act exactly like you.

Not intentionally inflammatory, perhaps badly worded. Maybe "boycotting over opinions" would have been better

They usually are better though...? It's okay to have a metric for good and bad.
by Alphonsolakin9 months ago
It's 100% good to have a metric for good and bad, but people call others out for "being part of the problem" for some very specific circumstances but the pretend like they aren't in others. We all contribute to these broken and faulty systems equally. Just because you decided a coffee shop is worthy of your anger but other multibillion dollar corporations aren't doesnt mean you're better

How do you know they're pretending they don't contribute to other problems? You're just making up narratives to get upset over.

"You're just making up narratives to get upset over." The internet needs that printed on t-shirts.

This is just your typical edgelord "You criticize society and yet you participate in society? Hypocrisy!" nonsense.
by Crooksderick9 months ago
It's not participating that makes it hypocrisy, it's pretending you're morally superior for deciding you can ignore some evil actions or practices but call others out for "supporting" other ones

Me: You shouldn't order lattes from that place, they literally use slave labor. You: You know who else uses slave labor? That company that made your car!!!! Hypocrite! Me: I literally can't have a job without a car. Without a vehicle, I'd become homeless and/or die on the street. See how this works? When folks make those arguments, it's generally about the more frivolous things. Not things folks actually need to participate in how society functions. Hell, I straight up have to have a smartphone just because of how signing my timesheet at work goes.

Outstanding

Sounds like your problem isn't with boycotting, it's with the attitude some people are taking. In which case, I completely agree lol
by Anonymous9 months ago
Funny that they didn't boycott the NFL for making Bud Light their official beer lmao

Yep, people get offended too easy these days.
by Anonymous9 months ago
I agree! Like I said, if they're actively DOING harmful things that's understandable. But boycotting over opinions and nothing more is where it gets insane
