+15 Los Angeles is a very boring city, amirite?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I live in LA and can mostly agree with this if you're visiting. In my neighborhood I walk to everything and there's lots of options for everything you may want.

LA is incredible if you can stay in a really small area. If you have to go long distances, it's backbreaking

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Westside especially

by feeneyhyman 1 year ago

Yea I was just there. For the second time giving it a chance. Place kinda sucks. It's boring and especially compared to Chicago or NYC I also think a lot of people agree

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It's a boring tourist city but LA's counterculture scene is not boring at all. Plus the food is good.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

The counter culture is hard to access (which is usually fine) but it's also seemed to be more in decline than other cities in recent years

by Anonymous 1 year ago

It definitely could be better. I miss the ol days when skate parts were filmed all over LA.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I feel this way about Toronto so I'm not surprised.

I live in downtown Long Beach and I haven't needed to drive in over a decade. You can get almost anywhere in LA county by the Metro system for $1.75. You just don't know the area well enough.

I rode the Blue Line every day back and forth to south central ... through Watts, Compton, twice a day. The only incident I remember, other than the pan handlers, was one day this girl walked out onto the tracks and just walked. The train conductor just crept along behind her blowing his horn for about a 1/4 mile then her family showed up, like 10 people, and took her to get some help. What was so cool was the fact that no one on the train complained about the delay, instead they were concerned about the girl and everyone applauded when her family showed up. I still have the video of it.

I chose my address with the Metro in mind. There is a station 100 yards from my front door.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I took the metro in LA literally just to see its great they're building out but it's obviously still incredible long travel times and not very practical..

💯 if it wasn't in California it'd be a flyover city. Lived there for almost 6 years

by MathematicianHot4695 1 year ago

Long island with better weather.

by lwiza 1 year ago

Only been once and for work no less. Being from northeast, I would say weather has to be the best part? I guess if you want to do lots of things, maybe not the place as people seemed more relaxed about things.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Way too much traffic too

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I actually like LA. But I live in the Atlanta area and the traffic is just as bad if not worse so I'm used to it. The legal weed, the weather and the scenery is so much better in LA in my opinion. I actually wouldn't mind living there if it weren't so expensive.

I live in LA and agree.

by New_Low_3005 1 year ago

I've heard from literally everyone ever, that LA is a way better place to LIVE than it is to VISIT

by No-Art8737 1 year ago

The traffic sucks, but apart from that, Los Angeles is a great city. There's Disneyland. Universal Studios and other movie studios. There's the Hollywood walk of fame. Santa Monica pier. Also Las Vegas, Nevada is nearby so you can drive there on holiday weekends. Los Angeles is awesome. Who in their right mind doesn't like Los Angeles?

by Magdalenwuckert 1 year ago

It's still the same metropolitan area. You want to argue semantics?

by Magdalenwuckert 1 year ago

Not sure how you are making your comparison, but LA is just like any major city like NYC, Chicago or Boston. Sure, out west most major cities aren't so congested, but there's still plenty to find to do if you have to alter plans if you don't like traffic. I've been to NYC and traffic is worse, been to Boston and that city has just as bad of traffic. I don't live in LA or from there, but been to every major city here and it's all the same. Public transportation is better back east I'll give that, but traffic is just as bad or worse and depending on what you want to do, it's the same anywhere else

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I'm from Boston I have three Boston friend/s LA (echo Park, southern Studio City and Gardena)- it's the polar opposites more or less LA is sprawling and decentralized and hostile tonpedestroans. Boston is hyper centralized, extremely low desnoty once you get 15 miles from downtown but the city itself is a walkers paradise.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Yeah I'm from Boston and live in Santa Monica. You could say SM is like Boston, a tiny enclave of LA county, walkable, etc. LA proper is a whole different ballgame. Still an awesome time...just massive.

by xbatz 1 year ago

Driving kills the fun. Arrive everywhere frustrated from traffic, leave everywhere disappointed that you gotta get back into traffic Man I just wanna walk places once I'm actually in the city

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Then you just don't like driving— the city isn't boring though. Live in weho, downtown, or Culver City or something if you want a walkable area. Plenty of pockets of that in this city

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Driving is what ruins it though unfortunately - speaking as someone brought up in LA

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I don't mind the driving of it all. Have a car I like being in and enough music / audiobooks to keep me engaged. Far prefer that over being somewhere I can't do much. I dive and go to the mountains frequently so glad to live in a city where that's possible.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

That's fair- the nature and proximity to the ocean/mountains is nice. I just personally hate driving that's why 😂

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Yeah that's what I'm getting with to OP. Hate driving/hate that LA isn't NY and public transport isn't good? Absolutely valid, but this city is anything but boring

by Anonymous 1 year ago

LA is dope. Ppl think of traffic and assume it's the worst, but in all reality it's much better than 90% of the US

by Wonderful_Opposite43 1 year ago

They said Los Angeles, not California

by MathematicianHot4695 1 year ago

Do agree on the driving everywhere part it really sucks

by Anonymous 1 year ago

If you visit Los Angeles and spend your time downtown, you're doing it wrong. I've lived less than 20 minutes from downtown my entire life and have been downtown less than 10 times.

by PressureNo 1 year ago

LA.messed up by not creating a mass transit system.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Blame the not in my neighborhood. The valley to the beach needs a transit system

by MotherMaintenance754 1 year ago

It's a city that's probably great if you can afford it

by ProduceExpensive 1 year ago

plan ahead. LA is amazing, despite the horrendous traffic.

by Easy_Library_3937 1 year ago

LA is extreme trash

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Los Angeles is amazing if you're rich. That's my impression.
