I think its pretty common, for people to take the butter out of the fridge a bit before, for this reason exactly, at least thats what I have experienced.

Buy spreadable butter or turn up the temp in the fridge slightly. Hard butter on bread isn't something people like, your opinion is popular.

You just have to work it back and forth a bit in the tub. Everyone talking about taking out the fridge in advance just needs to try this, it takes seconds to just give the butter a stabbing and make it workable. Also if you buy butter that comes wrapped in foil you'll have to save a tub from something else but it's worth it

If you need to use cold butter that hasn't had time to soften, grate your butter with a cheese grater over your bread
