It's honestly just plain consumerism Welcome to most hobbies. Books, sports, any type of collection, any side hustle, anything involving knowledge (higher levels of knowledge require purchases)

There's no higher level of knowledge provided with a funko pop. It's literally plastic that sits there. The other examples you provide have actual purpose or provide knowledge.

They are hideous and boring. Getting into collectables isn't usually a great thing as it is but to pick the ugliest most boring thing to collect is sad.

That kind of plastic isn't really a problem. It will eventually be safely stored in an underground dump. Single-use plastics are what we need to worry about.

People can collect whatever they want, but I'm gonna be real and say that funko pops are just plain ugly and not that creative. There are so many other collectibles out there that are interesting to look at and admire.

It's called unpopular opinion for a reason, and in no shape or form am I saying they shouldn't be collected in general. I'm discussing my opinion on why I find them ugly. My title is "most boring hobby in the world", not "this shouldn't be a hobby".

Collecting things should be about building an arrangement of something valuable. Valuable in money, valuable due to its rarity or scarcity, valuable due to its sentimental value. Funky pops replace the collection of something valuable with the consumption of products. It's soulless and cynical and boring and lame and ugly.

I love collectibles and have some pretty crazy stuff but I'll never own funkos. They're hideously ugly and are basically worthless. I'd collect literally anything else. I think I only own one that I got as a gift. My girlfriend owns like, 2, cuz they were apparently rare and limited sold at E3 2018 when we went. God they're ugly though lol.

This. I actually have a funko pop but it was gifted to me from my boyfriend. It's out of the box and chilling on my pc set up. Having it in a box randomly in my room would be awkward #freethefigurines

I enjoy seeing all the different star wars and marvel characters in lego form. I can understand why somebody would enjoy characters they like in a simplifed art style. It's not really for me, but I have nothing against it.
