+38 I despise movies where innocent people are murdered just for crossing paths with the villain. amirite?

do you expect the bad guy in a film to not be bad then? Those things are meant to get you invested into the story, to make you feel a desire for justice towards the antagonist. Bad guys in real life do the same stuff.

Fair enough. I still don't like seeing it and try to avoid those movies at all costs.

Ok im not trying to come across as attacking you or anything but any non documentary should have any long lasting effects on you like I'd say you are definitely way to sensitive its just not health for a work of complete fiction to genuinely make you upset that much that it affects you days later. Honestly it sucks that you feel that way and can't enjoy movies like that

I mean, they are supposed to be bad guys. You aren't supposed to like them. That said, I do think that killing people for no reason is silly. Paul Atrides is a much better written villain than Anakin Skywalker.

That's… the point. Villains usually don't possess empathic qualities. That's why they are villains.

But it just doesn't seem right that anyone should kill for the sake of killing. Again, it's one thing if they're in some kind of war or conflict, but to kill innocent people just for crossing your path is especially disgusting to me. Because that could be any of us! We could do everything right, stay out of things as much as possible, and could still die at the hands of some sicko.

Villains don't always have high integrity. Hell, making them psychopaths is a very common troupe.

by carletonconn 1 month ago

Not always, some villians think they are doing the right thing and they are acceptable casualties

Yeah I know. Dudes like Thanos basically

by carletonconn 1 month ago

Yeah, or if you have ever watched criminal minds, some of them think they are right.

Good example

Amazing. Got a point though.

There is this whole system where they apply a rating to a movie based on whether or not it contains objectionable concepts like violence. Stick to PG (or the equivalent where you are).

You soft

I'm with you. The bad guy has to be believable, and that means he needs a believable motivation for killing anybody. A movie with gratuitous violence just tells me the writers and/or the director are edgy tryhards, and I lose interest.
