+50 Anime is badly written, amirite?

Death Note has that style of exposition the OP is complaining about though. And I don't think they are just complaining about shounen.

by Fun-Statistician983 1 year ago

But that is the style that people enjoy. There is a reason death note is so highly regarded. It is so highly regarded that Netflix after failing once, have already started working on another Death Note project with Warner brothers. Imo, yes many animes are not that good. But if you are anything like me and try to find good anime, you will find them.

Well if someone doesn't enjoy that kinda exposition-based storytelling, like op, then I could see why a lot of anime wouldn't click with them.

Came here to say this. Op dosent know what he's missing by not watching those anime.

But they are not like mainstream Shonen with just incredible fights and powerups, they have very complex stories which is what makes them different.

Yeah i love them too, i dont have a problem with them i think it's well writeen and beautiful animation from mappa. ( Jjk , aot) There is also vinland saga who is incredible too.

Most anime's born out of manga. That alone informs how it's written.

Yeah a lot of anime stick way too close to what was in the manga. The manga often needs that kinda exposition but in anime when you can more clearly make out everything that's going on it's just redundant. I think anime originals tend to be better at show-don't-tell.

I think anime originals tend to be better at show-don't-tell Yeah, that's why I tend to prefer films like Miyazaki's, Kon's, or Shinkai's.

I kind of agree and it's why I don't watch much anime anymore, if at all. There are still some good ones though. I really wouldn't say that it's any different than regular tv though. Much of media relies heavily on tropes, and a large majority of shows just aren't very good.

I really don't like anime however I did like Naruto because the rest of the lore had to be shown through story telling. The main character constantly repeats he wants to be hokage to earn respect and how sad his childhood was blah blah blah but the lore was expanded further the story kept moving and it took years for me to finally understand how the world is the way it was in Naruto. Do not acknowledge boruto tho.

Of course it's not well written, neither are half the superhero movies. The anime you pointed out just aren't in that genre.

While that is a good scene, I have almost zero knowledge of Naruto and picked up on almost none of these things you said. Not sure without prior knowledge you can tell much aside from they are intimately familiar with each other's fighting style. I don't get evil out of either character. I don't get heartbroken. I get that the scene is supposed to be tragic from the music though. I don't see any rejection, nor that one was a master to the other. Overall I think you knowing the context of this scene let you know all of that stuff you mentioned.

I don't get evil out of either character. One of them cracks a wicked smile and does the stereotypical "crack your own neck" evil guy thing. I don't get heartbroken. I get that the scene is supposed to be tragic from the music though. Why would it be tragic if one of them weren't intensely sad over this? nor that one was a master to the other. Didn't say that, and that's because that's not their relationship. The blond guy in the back during the flashbacks was their teacher.

One of them cracks a wicked smile and does the stereotypical "crack your own neck" evil guy thing. Smile is just a "I got you now" smile. And good guys crack their neck too, it's the "time to get serious" move. Not reserved for bad guys. Why would it be tragic if one of them weren't intensely sad over this? I have zero context for this scene so I don't know. They could neither be good or bad and just victims of circumstance, finding themselves fighting each other again after all these years on opposite sides of some moral grey area. But neither character reads as heartbroken to me. Didn't say that, and that's because that's not their relationship. The blond guy in the back during the flashbacks was their teacher. I'm an idiot and misread where you said "rejects the ideals of his former self" It's still a great scene and makes me actually want to try Naruto even though it would take me 20 years to watch it all lol
