+46 There is nothing wrong with adults buying and owning toys. amirite?

by Anonymous 1 month ago

There's a 3 foot long Mattel Jurassic World Super Colossal T-Rex on the bookshelf in my living room, multiple Lego sets, various action figures.

by Obvious_Yak3048 1 month ago

The way I see it, you're able to afford the toys once you're an adult and don't need to rely on parents to get them for you. Toys only have a minimum age, no maximum.

by Agreeable_Win 1 month ago

I finished my Lego Lighthouse build a few weeks ago. Got other sets as well.

by angelina56 1 month ago

As someone who kept all their old Jurassic park toys and whose greatest prize was the massive t-Rex that came with a figure in a cage that it could eat…thanks for turning me on to this, now I must have it 😭

by lindgrenemilian 1 month ago

Everyone knows the Hammond Collection t-Rex is for the purists.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Got that one as well. And the Hammond Collection Baroynx.

by Obvious_Yak3048 1 month ago

But what makes you happy. Who cares what anyone else says.

by Traceybrakus 1 month ago

Exactly.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I'm basic as hell my last Lego kit was the Millennium Falcon. I think this year I am going to be even more basic and do Hogwarts lol But I looked up the Optimus prime and that is extremely tempting.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

If you really want to splurge get the 700 dollar self transforming one lol 😂

by reubensawayn 1 month ago

Reading "700$" made me light headed lol I will have to pass on that one lollllll

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Tell me more about these gnomes... I love gnomes!

by Anonymous 1 month ago

by Illustrious-Tax 1 month ago

22 year old guy with them filling the side of my "BUNK" bed yes you heard that right lol and my parents know elephants are the biggest exception ever in fact my whole family does lol my aunts still have fond memories of me arguing that it was called an epetant when I was like 4 lol

by reubensawayn 1 month ago

I feel like it's a hobby just like any other, it's just a stupid stigma that never seems to come back around on people who have other collections like sports memorabilia or hallmark statues, or in my grandma's case, racist statues from the 1930s.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

The people that feel like this is abnormal are quite old or are few and far between. With tv shows, games, and the internet in general- what is considered "for adults" and "for kids" has changed drastically. It's the reason millennials seem so much younger than 30 and 40 year olds did in the 80s. They dress and behave youthfully. They are connected to friends and people all over the world constantly. Our idea of "adult" is simply different than it used to be.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

A lot of us didnt have disposable income when we were kids, and now we do. We're just making up for lost time.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I bought a My Little Pony set off of Ebay that I never got to have as a child and always wanted. I don't really play with it, but it makes me happy to see it.

by uptonangela 1 month ago

I need a throw pillow No. You do not. Throw pillows are the peak of unnecessary - they exist purely to be moved out of the way when it's time to actually use the furniture.

by Rough-Long 4 weeks ago

Have I been doing couches wrong? I always use the throw pillows. When I lay on the couch I put one under my head and legs. When I sit on the couch I always sit cross legged with one in my lap lol am I crazy?

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

My experience with throw pillows has always been that they were uncomfortable and only suitable for decoration (and often present in such quantity that seating availability was reduced.) "You can sit here, just move those pillows" is something said multiple times at every family gathering.

by Rough-Long 4 weeks ago

I guess that's the difference. I sit on chairs like they're chairs. If I want to lay down, I go to the bed.

by Rough-Long 4 weeks ago

I realise youre probably the normal one but that sounds crazy to me lol Half the time im perched on the arm of the chair like a gargoyle, the other half im laying down

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I am the same. I think if I ever sat on something normally my family would call the cops. or an exorcist.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Agreed. However, there is a difference between right vs wrong and attractive vs unattractive. For most women, owning a lot of toys will be considered the latter for justifiable reasons.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Most. I am a woman and if someone could match my toy collection I would find that deeply sexy lol

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Yep that is why I said most. I know some women who would find it awesome.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I am also a woman and was so relieved when I moved in with my boyfriend and saw that he also had some stuffed animals. A man that is able to enjoy cute things and be secure in himself is super attractive.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

My wife has a bunch of toys. She says "I'm not adequate enough".

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Really putting the L in Love.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

More like putting the "D" in drawer.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

💀

by reubensawayn 4 weeks ago

Hell yeah lol

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

You are correct. Whatever beings joy. I have a wardrobe in my sewing room. It has some fandom things, a Lego or two, a couple stuffed animals, etc. makes me smile whenever I think to look up there :)

by Dereck90 4 weeks ago

THANK YOU CAN YOU PLEASE TELL THIS TO MY PARENTS! Thank god my dad loves avatar because even if the 2010 movie was hated that toy my godmother got me back then is off limits from being given away!!!! I'm putting that wrist thing on and knocking down water earth and fire lol also transformers bakugan elephants Pokémon and my king CAR-nivore

by reubensawayn 4 weeks ago

I'm buying my gf one of those massive chicken nugget pillows for her birthday.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

The ones of amazon? I want to get some for my sister. She loves them.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

That's the first place I was going to check! But yes. I love squishmallows but she sent a pic in our group chat saying how bad she wanted one, so that's what I'm going to get her hehe

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

That is so freaking sweet. She is gonna love it.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I can't wait to see her face when she sees it!

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Love this. Also, I really identify with it. When I was in highschool I hid my single teddy bear in my closet so I could sneak it out at night to snuggle. I was so ashamed. Now I type this on the daybed in my office surrounded by my bears. I think it is a sign of maturity to no longer deny the things you love out of fear.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

This should be a popular opinion. I don't get why so many people care so much about what people do with their lives when it literally doesn't affect them. Some people just need to get a grip.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I understand why this is in "unpopular opinions". But I think it more apt to say "buying and owning toys that aren't your toys". This is purely anecdotal, so pinches if salt and all that. But everyone has a hobby, or collection, that someone else finds stupid, or useless. In my case; I cannot fathom, why of all things, shoe collecting is a hobby. Or, to keep it relegated to "toys", Funko Pops. It is moronic and worthless, to my view. Meanwhile, I play and collect Magic the Gathering cards. I have paid stupid amounts of money for "luxury cardboard rectangles". So I don't really get to say what makes something stupid. And that, to my opinion, is the real thing: no one is conscious of their own stupid collections when making fun of people for theirs. Anyway, to make a short story long, all that to say that pretty much agree, OP.

by ComprehensiveBaby654 4 weeks ago

No, I'm not going to help you justify and feel good about being an adult child

by Big-Gazelle 4 weeks ago

I don't really need you too. My bills are paid, my house is clean, my pets are fed. I do what I need to,

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

If that was the case, you wouldn't have felt the need to argue otherwise. Normal people don't seek out validation from strangers unless they're insecure.

by Big-Gazelle 4 weeks ago

Yes, and what you want is validation for your immature hobbies

by Big-Gazelle 4 weeks ago

31 and still got legos and so much plush. in fact Kermit on my desk says people need to care for their inner child and be happy

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I've still got a Christmas Kermit my grandma got from McDonalds before I was born lol I keep him in a glass case

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

i bought a kermit backpack from disneyland last year and for my birthday my mom and siblings got me a matching bunsen and beaker wallet and some muppet pins to go with it

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

that is so freaking sweet it is amazing your family supports you.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

So I bought some toys I had as a kid and I have them displayed on a bookshelf in my bedroom, my brother came over with his son who I adore and he disappeared for a bit and when I asked where he was he said " I'm playing with his toys!" I'm smiling as I write this.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I am 63 and if I want a toy I buy it. I have stuffed animals, squishmellows, Legos and random fun stuff. I also crochet and do amigurumi. I have given most to my grands, but I will make stuff I like.

by Abestroman 4 weeks ago

It should be supported everywhere and it isn't. People are so offended by people living happy lives they disagree with,

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Yeah, I can relate. I started collecting books a year ago and most of them I bought from Goodwill or some local Garage sale.

by Xkovacek 4 weeks ago

Those are fine too lol

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

The day I'll let go of my tangle is the day I die. I also like my infinity cube. I think toys are cool, and being mean around them is the real unusual behaviour. Lol, there is nothing wrong with it, but some cultures this is kind of taboo. I bought manga as an adult and they asked if I wanted a plain cover for it. I asked why and they said it was to hide what you were reading on the train. Apparently people judge you for reading manga as an adult and otakus are treated as degenerates by society. Extrapolate that kind of shaming culture and you can understand people that change clothes/wear a mask to go to the trading card store or ask for discreet packaging on pg13 online figurine purchases.

by lisette44 4 weeks ago

I am 30 and have like 30 stuffed animals (including many squishmallows and a massive teddy bear) and so many Harry Potter Lego sets.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

My pumpkin Avery squishmallow agrees

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I am so deeply jealous RN I want one so bad

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I love legos and nerf guns.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Do what makes you happy. Do think about X years down the road when you are no longer able to work..

by ila82 4 weeks ago

My husband buys me Lego sets at Christmas most years. I'm definitely not complaining, except that I don't have a lot of time to do them with having young kids. I'm hoping to get around to it when my now 4 year old is a little older, and maybe do them with him (he loves Legos and I build the simpler Lego City sets with him, but he's definitely not ready for Lego Architecture or the other complex sets). I also bought myself Diamond art and scratch art, because I found myself "borrowing" my kids' scratch art and doing it to relax. Figured I should probably get my own. Finally, I was obsessed with Pokémon as a kid, and now my almost 9 year olds daughter is, too. Sometimes I end up snuggling with one of her stuffed Pikachus, because why not?

by Organic_Highway 4 weeks ago

I need to get my priorities straight, cause here I was asking myself " since when are people mad that adult buy toys for themselves?" Meaning sex toys , I couldn't understand why people had a problem with adults buying sex toys. And then I read the whole thing and saw you meant regular toys lol

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I honestly don't think this opinion is unpopular. Maybe it's just because I agree with you.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I am an adult, that means I am dead inside. Toys can't bring me happiness anymore. I would spend those 50 bucks on cigarettes and wine.

by No-Collection4892 4 weeks ago

Young me was sad af all the time.

by No-Collection4892 4 weeks ago

god damn bro. I wish I could give you a hug.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Wow a popular opinion on unpopularopinions. Who woulda thunk.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Sorry it was meant to be a joke haha. I'm sorry that people aren't more accepting of your hobbies irl. My house has huge RC planes all over the walls (and I mean every single square metre of wall space has a plane on it, largest is 2.7m) and everyone who's been there has had "whoa that is absolutely sick" reactions.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Rubik cube is actually what broke me lol about 10 years ago I was in line at a shop and they had them on the counter. I kept thinking "I want it so bad I've always wanted it" but I was embarrassed to buy a toy. Last second, I snatched one up and that was the beginning of the end lol No shame. I sleep with my BAB Kylo Ren every night.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Idk who told you you can't play but you don't need them in your life. I happily play and carry around Lego!

by CryptographerLeft 4 weeks ago

Me with calico critters! I felt so dumb but they make me happy

by Substantial-Park-211 4 weeks ago

So I just googled this because I have never heard or it and let's just say lord forgive me for what I am about to do to my amazon cart.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

It's very disappointing how little my 5 yr old cares about my Lego collection, presumably because my one rule is "don't smash them". He's more of a dinosaurs and Minecraft kid.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Cough cough building a drone in a room with funko cough

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I have so many toys, and I don't care if anyone thinks it's weird. Life sucks and I'm going to buy the stupid $15 toy that brings me joy. So little in life does anymore, so if I see something that brings me joy, I'm getting it.

by ekirlin 4 weeks ago

My wife and I are pushing 40 and we're purposefully trying to inject more whimsy into our home and lives in general.

by LessInstruction3326 4 weeks ago

I'm 20 and have a bed covered under the various stuffed animals I've collected over the years. I have one of those bean bag storage pillows with even more. I never intend to give any of these up. True maturity is not caring what anybody else thinks as long as you're not hurting anyone

by Low_Rip 4 weeks ago

I don't think this opinion is unpopular, though. Like my uncle has this massive collection of Pokemon minifigures and we all think it's cool.

by Ok_Low_1254 4 weeks ago

WTF is a 50$?

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

50 dollars in US money

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

No, that's $50.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

OH your being a no it all

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Me when walking by the He-Man toys: "Maybe I can get my son (who only plays with hotwheels) into these).

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Precisely. Especially since as a minor I have no money to buy the things I really want, you know for damn sure I'm buying it all when I'm an adult with my adult money

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

We have squishamallows on our couch as throw pillows. I highly recommend them if you're a couch napper

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I just received my Shadow figure from Mezco. $120 or so, and NO regrets.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Yeah a couple of years ago I bought the Trixie Mattel doll because i love her. And then I was like, can I just.... collect Barbies? So now I'm 31 and I collect Barbies.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Hell yeah dude

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

There's no shame. I have a teddy bear who I sometimes shove under one arm while sleeping on my side. At me, because I don't gaf.

by Turbulent-Fly 4 weeks ago

The corporate office I work in is decorated in several thousand dollars of Lego sets bought and assembled by adults. And that's not even counting my coworkers personal collections. Legos for adults just seems normal at this point.

by Realistic_Bee 4 weeks ago

There's nothing wrong. Whomever is telling you otherwise should be told to mind their business.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Squishmallows are hella comfy. I lay on my daughters all the time lol. Also sport a star wars purse and have a dozen Lego sets in my office. Do what makes you happy!

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I'm in my 40's and literally just bought myself a Furby soooo

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

My response : it's my money and I'll spend it how I want to also I don't tell you how to spend your money If you want to get something then go ahead

by billschultz 4 weeks ago

I asked my sister for the holiday Breyer horse for Christmas (I'm 30) and she got it for me, no questions asked. I too hate the notion that adults shouldn't have toys or that they need to be hidden away.

by Mindless-Entrance 4 weeks ago

Nobody needs a throw pillow. They're called throw pillows because you have to throw them off the furniture in order to use said furniture.

by Puzzleheaded-Task 4 weeks ago

A $100 on a Lego set? Try the literal THOUSANDS of dollars worth of the Ultimate Collector's whatever sets we have in our house. Husband is 45, I'm 39. How about the dinosaur bath mat I have in the master bath or the shark printed bed sheets I use at work? We don't even have kids. Have fun! Life doesn't need to be so serious. I also have 4 solar powered glowing blow up moons that live in my pool. And life is good.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Agreed. My current obsession is doll houses and furniture for them. I love to build them. My only problem is the furniture I bought is too big for the house I have so now I have to buy a bigger doll house.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

In my 40's and I dare you to come for my legos or puzzles! They're mine!!!

by Rashadluettgen 4 weeks ago

I am 33. Have adult money and spend my money on the random things my parents couldn't afford for me growing up. Got all kinds of random toys and objects lol

by Leannonbettie 4 weeks ago

Do you also invest? Are you also saving for retirement? If you replied yes to these questions & have money to spend on toys that's great - you do you. If you said no to them then are you really an adult?

by TemporaryDebt 4 weeks ago

Dam right there's nothing wrong with it!!

by Key-Platypus 4 weeks ago

I have so many. Agreed.

by Vmraz 4 weeks ago

Ok I really want a 3D printer and was looking at a ender or the Neptune 4. Something in the price range of around $500. I can't justify to myself why I want one. Money really isn't an issue but I need to make it worth it. Right now all I want is a Helldiver helmet. I've looked a thingaverse for ideas but it seems like mostly useless junk. What do you make on yours?

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Not OC but I got the Anycubic Kobra 2. it's a pretty decent printer. I haven't had any other ones to compare it to but it works quite well. I got it on sale for about $260

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

That's another one I was looking at. What have you made with it? Is it worth getting?

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Cool thanks.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I want a 3D printer so bad but they cost so much.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Define toys. I mean, a video game console is effectively a toy. But there's a far cry between that and Weebles.

by Embarrassed-Bank9454 4 weeks ago

And why does it matter if it makes someone happy?

by Dereck90 4 weeks ago

The difference is when it causes issues, which, ironically, a lot of 'adult' things, such as drugs (including nictotine and alcohol) are very well known for

by GlitteringBook 4 weeks ago

A bit of a different direction than what I was answering. But ok.

by Dereck90 4 weeks ago

I don't know what a Weeble is but I googled it and I 100% would put the flintstones Weeble's on my work desk. Those things are cute as hell,

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Weebles wobble but they don't fall down how is that not ringing a bell lol

by reubensawayn 4 weeks ago

I never had them lol. But I want them now I might order the flintstones one. I bet they would be so fun to flick around as I work (I work online) lol

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

But there's two versions the old school my parents generation miniature egg shaped version and the bigger animal ones where they have big round butts with no legs from the early 2000s lol

by reubensawayn 4 weeks ago

Unless those toys are hentai figures.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Don't buy squishmallows…. Their parent corp supports Israel. 🤷🏻‍♀️

by NoSpecialist6902 4 weeks ago

why

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

The same reason why it's weird for a grown man to Superman underwear, or a grown woman to wear My Little Ponies underwear. That doesn't answer the question. Why is that weird. Honestly, I'm more concerned on why you care about the design of someone's underwear. That's weird.

by Angelinabayer 4 weeks ago

It's only weird because you make it weird.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I think it's fine to have some stuff. But, if I walk into someone's apartment and there's no difference between how they decorate it as a fully grown adult and how they would've when they were 12, I'm gonna think there's some for real arrested development going on. Gotta have a balance

by Many-Garlic3017 4 weeks ago

TOTALLY DISAGREE! That's why I will be the best uncle anyone has ever had in like 10 years I'll have dogs cats bunnies Guinea pigs etc with one room converted into a space for them/ nursery for giving birth. Then one room is my room and one room is the elephant room

by reubensawayn 4 weeks ago

people can decorate how they want

by Illustrious-Tax 4 weeks ago

arrested development Hey, that's the name of the show

by Luciusstehr 4 weeks ago

You can decorate with youthful things in a classy, adult way. I did a bunch of painting of Victorian scenes with hyper realistic Pokémon. My favorite is a painting of a Victorian lady posing with her 9-tails lol

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

That is why I said it is only an issue if they don't take care of themself like an adult. If someone is paying bills, taking care of themselves and their family, etc why does it matter? Of course you can choose who you are around but I think you might miss some good people. Some interests stay with us. I've been obsessed with Dr.Who since I first watched it with my grandpa at 6.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

By the time you hit your 20s and 30s, your interests and the media you're into should have evolved past that. why?

by Illustrious-Tax 4 weeks ago
