Seeing your classmate in public is more awkward than seeing your teacher in public, amirite?

I am with OP on this one. Meeting a teacher is usually great because you are the younger one and the burden of starting conversation falls on them. They also can be not interested in talking and that's big W. But when you meet class mate, what are you even supposed to do? Like say awkwardly "hi"? I mean... They also may not be interested in starting a conversation but then it's usually just an awkward silence and after the interaction you think to yourself, "was I supposed to start the conversation?"

I just put the blinders on and ignore them. Hope they don't notice me. If they do small talk until I make my exit as quickly as possible.

Who actually cares about opinions like this? If I met a teacher in public, I'm not thinking "sheesh at least it wouldn't have been as awkward as meeting a classmate" There's no popular opinion so this isn't really an unpopular opinion.

The classmate and I will ignore each other if we're not friendly. If we are friendly, then there's no issue seeing them in public. The teacher will try to speak to me regardless of whether or not I like them.

I ran into one of my teachers at a weekly AA meeting where I grew up. It was kind of awkward tho for real cause I was a senior. But we became really cool after that. Like he hold me after class and we'd talk bout our problems with drugs n alcohol and I'd be like 20 mins late to my next class and just write me a note. Or he'd give me a heads up on the pop quiz, after he told me then it was just a quiz. It's been 20 years almost, hope you still here Mr M!!

I used to see one of my professors from college publicly. We had coffee which then turned into drinks at a bar which then turned into a steady weekly affair for the better part of two years. She was hot.
