+25 Professional wrestling is a form of hetero drag show. amirite?

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

So what's this mean for the female wrestlers?

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Men in proper drag, except for Becky who is just THE Man.

by After-Wishbone 4 weeks ago

Same thing,

by Able_Credit6778 4 weeks ago

Also a sort of drag if the analogy holds, I think. Women can do anything they want, but the chiseled six pack and biceps which - even if they're for glamour - belong to someone who could definitely kick my ass according to the reptilian or simian side of my brain means it's probably a form of masculine presentation. ETA: I'm just learning about this now, but a way to think about it is that WWE is full of Drag Kings. You fight each other, you flex, you compete for a shiny bit of bling everyone's always trying to take from you, you engage in feats of humiliation and prowess for a hooting crowd egging you on to greater fights you're just going to lose one day. If that's not an expression and performance of what it is to be a dude regardless of what's between your legs, I dunno what is.

Professional wrestling is soap opera for sports fans

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

You should watch Lucha Underground

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Ever heard of The Undertaker? Early days of WWE had plenty of anime storylines.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

As far as demonic power goes, that's pretty much Finn Balor's gimmick. You might also enjoy Kenny Omega, whose character is heavily based on Final Fantasy and Street Fighter games.

by zcasper 4 weeks ago

That makes me wonder why there's no Black Adam gimmick.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

So, we have an undead mortician whose brother is a demon (and republican politician) and one of them burned their parents' house down A regular guy who sometimes becomes a demon for a match at a time A children's TV host with a demonic alter ego And I think there was an ancient chinese evil entity giving commands to a few people for a bit

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

There was, but then she discovered duvet days and seems much happier for it.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

You didn't have to repeat yourself you could have just said demon.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

My husband was telling me about soft ground wrestling (mud wrestling) in Uganda where the main heel is a white colonialist and that's just solid storytelling.

by EffectiveLimp1988 4 weeks ago

That's what drag is.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Damn right! And lot's of intense face to face eye gazing to really let em know who's straight.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

oh how i love getting into my underwear with other men and rolling around on the floor with them totally straight btw

by connjameson 4 weeks ago

Fun fact, wrestling rings aren't anything like trampolines. They are just wood planks and gym mats really. Little less pleasant to land on

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Wanna bet. My cousin was a blind referee.

by Able_Credit6778 4 weeks ago

That thing is not a trampoline. It looks springy on TV, and it kind of is to an extent, but it's literally wooden boards with a bit of padding over a metal frame.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

There's a spring in the middle but that's for dramatic effect, not fun.

by Hanejoesph 4 weeks ago

These jokes get made because of the guys who get bent out of shape about even hugging their friends.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Not gonna lie it twitched a little

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Sorry, what now? It's 2024 and there's still people who think it's a trampoline and not a metal stage with a wooden floor and 4in mats? What rock have you been living under?

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Pro wrestling is too high of an art form for some people to understand and appreciate. You are one of those people. They aren't greasy underwear men. They're meaty men and they slap meat.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Hmm you're probably right. I'll YouTube "meaty men slapping meat" to get more informed about what true masculinity looks like

by Nayeli62 4 weeks ago

Any activity which has people dress in special costume is "a form of drag" using your criteria.

by Nettiemarvin 4 weeks ago

Yeah! Under those criteria, you could call wrestlers "drag queens" just for wearing sequins and tassels, or dressing up like cowboys or… just boots and a Speedo. Not to mention wrestlers have straight-guy names like "Randy Savage"

by fschmidt 4 weeks ago

Kane once wore heels to be as tall as the undertaker, even

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Lmao

by Additional-Cable 4 weeks ago

Correct! You're getting it! That little business suit that people put on to go to the stock market. That is drag.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Another reason why professional wrestling is the highest form of art

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Wrestling is real. People are fake.

by mariannebauch 4 weeks ago

Found Socrates, get in the telephone booth

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

No!!! It is redneck anime!

by jacobicarlie 4 weeks ago

Why is this not higher up?

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Drag is anime?

by jacobicarlie 4 weeks ago

No? Drag has a very specific definition that Pro Wrestling does not match

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Not to mention, drag isnt by definition homosexual either

by Mother-Objective 4 weeks ago

Also every drag performer I know is a HUGE wrestling fan.

by parisianmicaela 4 weeks ago

It's not entirely wrong much the same way saying army reserves are pretend military because they don't fight much. Nah it's 100% wrong kek

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Yeah this is one of the dumber takes I've seen on this site. It's basically saying live theater is a drag show. Dressing up in costume, playing the role of a character, and acting out a scene doesn't automatically mean you qualify as a "drag show." If anything, professional wrestling and drag shows are two different genres of live theater. The same way horror and comedy are two different genres of film.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

But OP didn't say that. They specifically talked about performing exaggerated gender characteristics, not just wearing a costume and being in character.

by parisianmicaela 4 weeks ago

Right. And it was a dumb statement. I mean, is Rocky a movie about a Sylvester Stallone doing drag? Is Gerard Butler in 300 doing drag? Is Regina George in Mean Girls doing drag? Of course not. Each of these actors and actresses play a character and these characters have hyper feminine or hyper masculine traits. It doesn't mean their doing drag…which is a very specific form of entertainment.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

You're missing my point because you want to be edgy.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

You need to watch season 4 episode 2 of Drag Race…

by Davidtrantow 4 weeks ago

I don't need to do anything, thank you very much

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Well in either case you'd be wrong.

by Davidtrantow 4 weeks ago

No because Drag isn't Pro Wrestling just as much as Shakespeare isn't Pro Wrestling

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

But pro wrestling is Shakespearean so again…you'd be wrong.

by Davidtrantow 4 weeks ago

They said Shakespeare isn't pro wrestling not pro wrestling isn't Shakespearean. I don't recall a Montague power bombing a Capulet through a table.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

It's a joke. A funny one at that. OP isn't trying to say drag is as ridiculous as pro wrestling

by Xgislason 4 weeks ago

Then it's a badly conveyed joke

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Congratulations, you've created your first drag character. Let's hope you can dance, as well as the rest of the queens in your competition.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

You feel very strongly about this don't you.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

It's flamboyant masculinity, Just like in Jojo's Bizzarre Adventures

by No-Bus-1765 4 weeks ago

So you like to watch guys in tight, skimpy shorts, rubbing themselves against each other and throwing each other around for fun? 🤔

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

It's not a drag show, it's a soap opera for men.

by Pagacanne 4 weeks ago

Drag involves people dressing up as the opposite gender, that's not really something you see in pro wrestling. Costumes and pageantry is not something that drag artists invented.

by Pagacanne 4 weeks ago

Just look at what Seth Rollins wear every week🤣

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

So then the cooking channel is the opposite??

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I disagree. It's acting, but they aren't exactly scrawny guys wearing muscle suits. They aren't using wires or special effects. Really it's far more on par with ballet than drag. The costumes are tights, they are always lifting each other in a coordinated show, and they completely wreck their bodies for the hopes to be famous to a very specific group of people.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

it's a form of theater. it's where drama kids and jocks intersect on the venn diagram.

by Imaginary-Ask4243 4 weeks ago

I would rather go to a drag show at this point in my life, but this is totally inaccurate 😭 maybe you could make an argument for the pageantry, but those men/women actually get pretty injured like all the time lmao It's a cute comparison for sure, but definitely not one with many similarities.

by Durward98 4 weeks ago

I too saw the South Park episode on wrestling.

by Hairy-Assignment-378 4 weeks ago

Yeah, "hetero", sure.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

They are actually all just soap operas. Like all the characters have drama and beef and fight. Drag is less drammatic. Less emotional and just more fun. Unless its reality tv and then its about as real as kim Kardashian's Ass And I would argue that it is, like drag at MOST mildly heterosexual

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

It's actually a form of performance art boarding on self-actualization, but y'all not ready for that convo

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Action movies are just musicals in disguise.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

People are flaming in you for the drag part being inaccurate but I'm gonna say it's the heterosexual part that's questionable

by Hairy-Sea-6016 4 weeks ago

I'd say cosplay stage fighting is more accurate

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

What the heck are you on about

by bahringeralisa 4 weeks ago

So all movies, plays, costume partys, and sci-fi/anime conventions are just drag?

by bahringeralisa 4 weeks ago

I consider it to be more "aggressive ballet." Everybody knows their roles, has their moves and routines practiced and memorized, and they're all in tights.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

It's the other way around but sure

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I'm sure the redneck audiences at these performances would agree. lmao

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

There's a massive queer following for wrestling, and more and more openly queer wrestlers performing these days. And because it's not a real sport, trans athletes can be involved without the controversy that happens in actual sports.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

the pro wrestling community has actually become pretty accepting in recent years

by ortizisabelle 4 weeks ago

Don't forget the soap opera like drama

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

And the soap dropping drama ...

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

It is also kinda like what it would look like for men to fake orgasms together in an arena setting. Wooooo! Yay-uhhhhhh.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I saw an op-ed years ago about the huge disparity of right wingers who enjoy professional (?) wrestling(?) compared to a significantly smaller number of left wingers. Now it all makes sense. Projection anyone....?

by AideEnvironmental656 4 weeks ago

if they aren't dressing across the line it's not drag, just really intense cosplay

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Your local drag queens need to step their pussies up.

by Affectionate-Roof202 4 weeks ago

I've seen drag queens doing backhand springs in heels …

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

are sports a form a drag now? cause you've just described pretty much every popular sport. dressing up ≠ drag not to mention there are woman wrestlers and women who love wrestling lmao

by Kulasgordon 4 weeks ago

Pro Wrestling is Ballet for people who enjoy trucker hats

by Charlesspinka 4 weeks ago

Says "it ain't ballet" on the box

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I've had this theory for about a year now. Wrestling is absolutely straight people drag.

by EffectiveEcstatic507 4 weeks ago

It‘s essentially gay soft porn.

by Cspinka 4 weeks ago

not everyone has dissolute mind like OP

by General_Feedback9682 4 weeks ago

This might be the most accurate description of professional wrestling I've ever heard

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago
