+19 There is little/no appeal in drinking. amirite?

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I'm no expert, so take this with a massive grain of salt, but this sounds less like an opinion and more like a medical condition I, for example, have a very poor sense of smell, almost non existent, but that doesn't mean I don't understand why people like smelling things like perfume and flowers

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Don't take it with salt, that will just make you thirsty and you might have to drink in front of poor OP

by wjacobs 4 weeks ago

I don't have a medical condition. It's a mental aversion, not a physical one Coincidentally I also have a really poor sense of smell a lot of the time. I walk into a perfume shop and the only thing I can smell is alcohol or soap. Idk why. I can understand drinking is for the taste, but the act of drinking outweighs that. That, and a lot of drinks suck

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Plenty of medical conditions are primarily or entirely mental. Not saying it's definitely a medical condition, but I wouldn't rule it out just because it's "mental."

by MaleficentBed4049 4 weeks ago

You said you almost physically feel ill when you are drinking any liquid. That's a strong biological reaction. Do you ever feel thirsty? Adipsia is the medical term for lack of thirst.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I rarely feel thirsty unless I'm reaching really bad levels of dehydration. I often get a dehydration headache first, get super confused why I'm in pain, then remember I haven't drank water in like 15 hours

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Yeah, that's a medical condition. Your brain is wired differently than other people's. Most people experience physical sensations of thirst after 2-3 hours or so, and the experience of drinking liquids is experienced as a pleasant relief of this thirst.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Most people feel thirsty how often?! Then again I also don't experience hunger until I'm super hungry or that I have to go to the bathroom until I really have to go most of the time. That being said when I get thirsty and do drink something, that is indeed my experience. Neurodivergence is fun. /lh /hj

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I'd kill to only be thirsty every 2-3 hours. I find myself needing to wet my whistle every 20 minutes, and even more often when I'm hot. I'm a total slut for a glass of water, but I'd do terrible things for an ice cold cucumber-lime Gatorade.

by Serena67 4 weeks ago

Haha I don't really get thirsty either and get the dehydration headaches. I don't dislike drinking; I just don't really feel thirsty and would rather snack on something. I'm a chronic snacker though and also don't really eat big meals, like ever. So I'm hardly a beacon of normal dietary tendencies. I wish I felt like drinking more though. Dehydration headaches and symptoms suck. Oh and I'd like to add that I totally see the appeal of getting together for drinks like tea and enjoy it, even if I don't drink much myself. And I love a good smoothie— those feel more like food to me than drinks.

Your mental aversion is a medical condition....

by gregoriagerhold 4 weeks ago

The human body is generally supposed to enjoy the feeling of drinking because it's such a critical part of staying alive. Have you actually gone to the doctor about this? If so, then I'll defer to you here, but if you haven't, you may yet have some sort of serious issue, whether it's "physical" or "mental". Because having physical revulsion at the idea of drinking simply isn't normal.

by General-Programmer 4 weeks ago

A mental condition is a medical condition.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I never claimed all this spiritual woo woo stuff lmfao. no. But I do have a certain brain issue that's for sure caused by a lesion or malformation- prosopagnosia Tbh maybe something really did happen to me , now that I realize I have multiple symptoms. Which is strange bc generally I feel and function just fine. Or maybe I've coped with it all. Idk

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

If you have a poor sense of smell, prosopagnosia and an aversion to drinking liquids with physical symptoms starting over a relatively small amount (drinking one glass of water when dehydrated should not be uncomfortable, you should be wanting another), it really points to a larger tendency for your brain to either be scrambling sensory input, or misinterpreting it. Because that's a lot of different sensory pathways affected, there. Seems like the prosopagnosia might just be another symptom of a larger thing

by Educational_Wing_231 4 weeks ago

I'm seeing a red flag. Something is wrong here. I don't know what, but something isn't right. Drinking is enjoyable, taste and refreshing is an enjoyable experience. If you aren't experiencing that something is up as that's a basic human thing.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Hydrophobia and I don't mean rabies

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Right? My whole plan some weekend days is to sit around and drink yummy drinks.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

red flag is a little dramatic in this context, no?

by Academic-Share2705 4 weeks ago

more like "warning sign" just because today's internet seems to think a red flag indicates personal fault rather than just a personal issue.

by Academic-Share2705 4 weeks ago

I've seen people use red flag for much less on a regular basis. Seems fine to me.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

as i'd expect from someone who also feels that way about well-done steak 😂 never said it was a big deal, just another way internet psychologist have ruined the meaning of a word.

by Academic-Share2705 4 weeks ago

Nah but I do like eating. So much more variety, doesn't make me feel gross after

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

There is a large variety of things to drink, nonetheless, you might have a sensory issue with drinking liquids

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

You feel gross after drinking water? You sir need to see a doctor.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I feel gross after drinking at least a glass. Before that it's just something I do to survive but don't feel gross just yet

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Again, see a doctor.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I don't think a doctor will do anything considering I'm otherwise perfectly healthy and am very much capable of drinking even if I don't like the act itself

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Well here's the thing, you're not a doctor. You might not be healthy. You might have a problem. I know for sure it isn't normal to feel gross when drinking water. That's not healthy.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Yeah it should probably be a team of doctors

by schoenliana 4 weeks ago

Buddy you aren't perfectly healthy if drinking fluids is uncomfortable. If it's not a physical problem it's a psychological issue

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Seek help immediately

by Parkermelba 4 weeks ago

You said you go 15 hours without water. I can't go more than 5 when I'm awake

by Puzzleheaded_Side 4 weeks ago

That's insane. My usual university days were me coming home at 4/5 in the evening and realizing I hadn't had water since the day before Obviously not healthy but ykno

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Hilarious opinion

by maudezulauf 4 weeks ago

You're probably growing some prize kidney stones

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I fear kidney stones so bad. I make myself chug just to stave them off

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I've seen them get so big that they have to go through peoples backs to get them out. Good luck

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I wish you hadn't said that

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

This shouldn't even be an opinion 😭

by Affectionate-Turn 4 weeks ago

See a doctor immediately

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Do you have rabies perhaps?

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I'm foaming at the mouth as I type this but I'm sure that's from my last latte

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

You either joking or you dying Go to the doctor

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

There's no appeal in other basic bodily functions to live either. I hate breathing. I am chronically out of breath because I only let in as much oxygen as minimally needed to survive. /s

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

OP you mentioned mental aversion before. I'm am genuinely trying not be mean but have you been checked for any diagnosable mental disorders? Sensory aversion is one thing but your being constantly on the cusp of dehydration because you don't want to drink is alarming. I can totally understand not enjoying sensations. I am so averse to having my back touched that I've swung around and elbowed family before because they were trying prank me and my body reacted with a quick full force turn. Everyone has those sensations they hate.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

you need psychological help. this is beyond not normal.

by gregoriagerhold 4 weeks ago

Humans have always produced people who can't survive the real world. The world didn't use to save them.

by Patiencepouros 4 weeks ago

OP is either trolling or has some sort of medical issue 😭 Tf you mean "forcing liquids down your throat." Swallowing liquids is supposed to be easy.

by TuneInteresting 4 weeks ago

Wait that does sound like trolling

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I often wish I just had an IV at the ready to hook up a bag of saline. And nutrients, I'm tired of having to eat

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Yes! It's so exhausting to do. I hate the chewing. It can smell so good and then turn to cardboard in my mouth. I sometimes time myself while I eat to make sure I take a bite every minute or so and I just don't leave it.

by ReferenceLow9368 4 weeks ago

This works well as an unpopular opinion all until being dehydrated because you don't like drinking. Get that checked up, being dehydrated sucks real bad.

by susandeckow 4 weeks ago

I know. I live it

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

A cool glass of water on a boiling day? A creamy and rich coffee when there's a storm on? So many opinions here are just from pure oddballs likely with some severe mental issues. If you don't enjoy drinking nice liquids, it must really suck to be you I guess.

by Admirable-Bobcat-178 4 weeks ago

I do enjoy water but only after intense exercise or if I haven't had water for 3/4 of the day I've tried to like coffee and hot chocolate but I just don't like how I feel after drinking . Plus a low caffeine tolerance for obvious reason gives me a headache It doesn't suck too bad. I love food at least lol

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I drink filtered water I don't have sensory issues

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

As a big water drinker, I am genuinely concerned for you. Would it help if you tried carbonated water with squeezed lime and maybe some flavoured BCAA powder? It hydrates, and replicates the enjoyment of a soda without any sugar.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I can't stand carbonated water or limes. I just resort to plain. I don't know what bcaa powder is, that's interesting

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

BCAAs are Branch Chain Amino Acids. It isn't necessary to take as a powder by any means, but just one healthy way to add flavour to water without sugar. I'm not a psychologist by any means, but this will be an important hurdle to get over. Considering that drinking water is something that you don't enjoy, perhaps reward yourself with something that you do enjoy - 10 minutes online/social media, little piece of dark chocolate , every time your drink 250ml of water. I don't know you, so just guessing in regards to things you might consider as a small reward for dirnking water.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

That's called a medical condition

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Honestly, you should go to the doctor, this sounds wrong

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

You should go to the doctor, seriously.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

This is not unpopular opinion, this is like a mental problem

by RecognitionOk 4 weeks ago

I love the act of drinking a nice tall cold water after a workout. Alcohol is more about the social situations for me. I have a group of friends I drink whisk(e)y with. Another group that meets at a brewpub. Other friends who are wine people. I like to sip and taste but don't like getting drunk. Took me a few years to figure that out...

by Wisozkdillan 4 weeks ago

I was gonna say "agreed. I hate the feeling of being drunk" but something ain't right here

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Maybe get checked out for rabies?

by judyleffler 4 weeks ago

I'm sorry you dont like drinking things. Chugging a big thing of ice cold water on a hot day is the best feeling in the world.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

This isn't just an unpopular opinion, this is personal

by Professional-Pay1879 4 weeks ago

Humans can be so incredibly weird.

by Difficult_Half 4 weeks ago

This is actually unpopular.

by Odd-Sink 4 weeks ago

One of the rare actually unpopular opinions. OP like others have said, there's a chance that you might have some kind of medical condition. The instinct to drink fluids typically makes it a very enjoyable experience. Finding it as unpleasant as you clearly do is extremely rare.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

W RABIESSS BRO

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I think you might just be an anomalie. You can't say there is no appeal if you're an abnormal case. You don't have to like drinking but if that's the case then I think you should accept that you are an exception to the norm. Also, what is the "almost" mark? I googled it and google doesn't know either.

by Stantonjammie 4 weeks ago

I hope you get the help you need. It's ok to get help

by Key_Area_3644 4 weeks ago

This isn't an opinion OP, it's mental illness.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I love drinks. For me my bane is eating. Now that is something we should be able to replace with a pill

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I don't know think it's a medical condition but either way something to talk to a doctor about or do some research. Look into ways to stay hydrated.

by Great_Boysenberry925 4 weeks ago

I have . My goal is to get one of those canteens where they have a mark to drink a specific amount of water by a certain hour . That way I can see how much I'm lacking

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I love like everything you listed lmao

by Which-Tie2046 4 weeks ago

I would 100% rather have a drink than food. I find it much more satisfying, refreshing and nice.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Great unpopular opinion. I've never met or heard of anyone with this opinion before. This sounds like something extremely specific to a very very small percentage of the population. The exact definition of unpopular opinion.

by Sad-Face9791 4 weeks ago

It's fun to do with friends/strangers. It tastes good. There are two very appealing reasons to drink.

by Zgibson 4 weeks ago

Sweet lord, this a terrible take on things

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I only drink when I'm incredibly thirsty, and usually just ice cold water. Always enjoy it thoroughly. Same with food. I like to wait until I'm almost starving, so that the food will taste better. Even the most boring vegetables can be enjoyable when you're hungry enough.

by Sammy38 4 weeks ago

You need to seek professional medical help immediately

by Sure-Ant 4 weeks ago

i don't like drinks or drinking things either. would much rather eat. i do it for caffeine, but the only liquid i truly like is water.

by Academic-Share2705 4 weeks ago

Do you perchance have dysplasia at all? Could be a reason you don't like the act of drinking

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I don't think so

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Damn this is maybe the most unpopular opinion possible? Drinking water is bad? Incredible.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I enjoy drinking liquids. But I agree that there's no appeal in milkshakes or smoothies. I don't like thick "beverages". Interesting opinion all around though!

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Yeahhh, no. This is absolutely not a normal sentiment to have. I suggest seeing a doctor.

by Vast-Inevitable8924 4 weeks ago

This sounds like it has to be a weird neurological disorder of some kind

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

This sounds like a medical condition

by MiserableAirline8050 4 weeks ago

Me, I prefer drinking than eating, I only eat bc of my crazy stomach demands it and then gets cramps when I do. I think it's mental. Drinking things doesn't make it cramp and goes smooth. But idk I guess I'm just so used to eating I feel weird when I don't. Plus I saw on a show that just drinking is not nutritious for some reason

by Ok-Long 4 weeks ago

This is definitely unpopular but not an opinion. I'm worried for you.

by Ebednar 4 weeks ago

Are you sure you don't have a medical condition?

by Schultzrhoda 4 weeks ago

This went from 0 to 100 real quick

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Enjoy your kidney stones! 👍

by vickydamore 4 weeks ago

You have some sort of condition. I have no idea what it is but you aren't normal. This isn't an unpopular opinion this is something that you need to either get checked out or just learn to live with.

by Everette89 4 weeks ago

You should probably talk to a doctor.

by Alone_Inspector3899 4 weeks ago

Son, touch grass

by mlind 4 weeks ago

Think of how bad it would be for the human race if your assertion was actually true. We would be at a huge evolutionary disadvantage. You probably just inherited an uncommon genetic makeup that makes drinking yucky.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I can only speak for myself, but drinking makes me more sociable. I'm more likely to strike up a conversation with someone without worrying about what we're going to talk about or how they might react. I joke about it all the time, but I know for a fact I don't go up to my current girlfriend with the lame joke that I made without having the liquid courage to approach her

by Wendelldoyle 4 weeks ago

OP isn't talking about just alcohol. They're talking about drinking any and all liquids.

by Difficult_Half 4 weeks ago

You do understand that your opinion is not so much unpopular as it is unusual, I hope. The vast majority of people enjoy drinking at least something. Of course you are entitled to your own point of view, but yours' is so unusual that maybe ruling out any medical cause for your hatred of drinking is in order.

by Pourostrenton 4 weeks ago

If you don't enjoy a cold glass of water in a hot day or after exercise then there is something medically wrong

by Nikolausdelphia 4 weeks ago

That's not an opinion, it's a mental illness.

by Nikolauskatlyn 4 weeks ago

The physical act of drinking is very off putting. Do you honestly not understand that this is clearly a you thing, and not the common experience?

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Yeah that's kind of why it's an unpopular opinion…

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Okay, sure. Well done.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

you need help or choose a different personality "quirk" or fix your depression
