+42 I like self checkout, amirite?

by Turbulent-Savings773 4 weeks ago

I prefer self checkout. I don't want to interact with people.

I like having the choice, it's often quicker to use the self checkout. One problem is the potential loss of jobs as the number of self checkouts increases

by krajcikretta 4 weeks ago

they have actually been taking away self checkouts in high theft areas though I doubt they are adding many if any workers just increasing the workload of the already small staffs you also have more jobs being added for filling online orders though

I wish those people who purport to hate self-checkout would get the hell out of the self-checkout line. I love self-checkout.

The problem comes when there's only a single regular cashier, which happens a lot around where I live. I like self checkout too, until there's a mom there with a huge cart full letting her four year old that can hardly reach and has little coordination ring everything up. Or the little old people who can hardly read the screen trying to figure out how to use the machine.

Easier to steal

by Porterolson 4 weeks ago

That why I like it. Pretty much buy one get one free everything when I use it

by Adventurous-Book 4 weeks ago

Oh, great. I've fallen in love again.

by Porterolson 4 weeks ago

I used to love self checkout when it first started. I can scan my own stuff quickly and bag it up however i prefer, without having to wait for the teenager at the register to hurry up, or the old lady counting her coins. Now that there is ONLY self checkout, it's the opposite. We now have to wait behind a legion of old ladies who take 10-15 minutes each to scan and bag 5 items...

I prefer self checkouts when I don't have a lot of items.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Yeah this is when it's ideal

I hate self checkout because it goes smoothly about 10% of the time. It's a total waste of effort.

by ulueilwitz 4 weeks ago

Yeah, I've mainly used self checkouts at big grocery stores when I'm buying a small amount of stuff and don't want to wait behind people with full carts. I swear it is a headache more than half the time. "Help is on the way" because something didn't scan right "Help is on the way" for seemingly no reason and I didn't request it "Place items in the bagging area" This one repeats over and over until you put your scanned item in the correct spot

Same same

I like the phone app idea even though I never used it. Makes it so much easier in terms of efficiency.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Yeah sams club scan n go is the reason I keep going there lol.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I think you'll find this is a pretty popular opinion

by Buck03 4 weeks ago

I mean unless you are like over the age of like 55 at least this isn't an unpopular opinion. The younger generations not only grew up with them but often prefer them to avoid social interactions or cause more work for the staff etc. I personally prefer self checkouts so I can use my reusable bags and bag how I want too etc. Though a lot of self checkouts are already going away at least in high theft areas. Think most of retail is going to go the way of online ordering in the next couple decades anyhow or more advanced options than that (like amazons pick up and go locations).

by ghodkiewicz 4 weeks ago

Agree. It's awesome. No small talk, usually short lines so much faster, can continue listening to my music while I move on with my day.

Sam's Club self check out is the only self checkout that works. Also I love McDonald's touchscreen system. I can take as long as I want to order.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Yeah, I'm with ya. But I was a cashier for a couple years, so that helps.

There's nothing wrong with self checkout. The issue people have is they're pushing more for self checkout and less cashiers. I don't care if they have 3 or 4 self checkouts, but have 3 or 4 cashiers at any given time. What I hate is there's 6 or 7 self checkouts and 2 cashiers so it forces people to go to self checkout. Half the people are stupid and don't know that after you scan you either place it on the bagging area if the stores do monitor the weight or bag it and put it in your car. The other half take their sweet ass time because they fumble with finding tur barcode or don't understand how to look up produce. But I am that person that says if you're going to force me or push me to use self checkout more, well guess what. I'll add to the stores shrink issue because you want me to do a job you're supposed to hire someone for, well then I give myself an "employee discount."

I love self checkout and don't want it to go away.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Sam's Club has the best set-up. Not even talking about using the phone app. Just the way it's arranged. Some places it sucks.

by camilawillms 4 weeks ago

I only use self-checkout. I hardly buy enough to warrant anything beyond grabbing a basket (not cart) and having to stand in a long line for the cashier to check my five things would do nothing but piss me right off.

by ekub 4 weeks ago

I like self checkout. I dislike people who get a lot of stuff and are slow scanners who use self checkout.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I find them convenient when I have a few items and there isn't much of a line. I certainly wouldn't want to scan and bag a week's worth of groceries though.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

is that a slang for suicide?
