+36 There are computers in Star Wars but no computer mouses, amirite?

by Consistent_West_6989 1 year ago

Why would there be? Star Wars took place "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...." The mouse was invented in the 1960's on earth

Thats because we are based off them, you silly goose

by gsimonis 1 year ago

Is that because the plural of 'mouse' is 'mice'? ; D

These are no computer mouses in the real world either, just computer mice.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Same. This all inspired me to look it up and there's a video of the inventor calling them "mice" so I'm wrong I guess.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I think over time language evolves and tends to stray from its original forms in favor of more comfortable or convenient ways to say things. (so long as we understand each other, language is serving its purpose, no?) So I'd say saying computer mouses is valid enough on the grounds that its more comfortable to say than computer mice.

same. for awhile, adapting to use a mouse slowed me down.

Are we not counting the droids of the same name?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I like it that way. Sometimes technology can be dated in a distracting way, and they leave it out on purpose. Imagine Harry Potter with flip phones.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Harry Potter was born in 1981, and he defeated Voldemort in 1998. The first flip phone came to the market in 1996. So while technically possible, they would probably have had those brick phones that weight a kilo with an antenna (Nokia 3310 was released in 2000 btw)

by Altruistic_Border891 1 year ago

They're part of canon too!

by rmurphy 1 year ago

EU?! Those were on the Death Star! Thy were in the first movie!

by Anonymous 1 year ago

There's a mouse Droid. they probably just use those.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Mouses sounds awkward. We should invent a word for the plural of mouse.

Mices!

by schustermaurice 1 year ago

We should invent a word for the plural of mouse. We already did that centuries ago. Mice.

Same with Star Trek but they did address it

Have you seen Windows there

by Sharp_Till2479 1 year ago

Its not fun to watch someone use a mouse. That's why hackers in movies are always clacking away on keyboards randomly. In star wars, they use force mice.

by Connect_Comment_3771 1 year ago

stars wars came out in what 1977? that's 7 years before the mac popularized them.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Cuz they had neuralink.

by flaviokulas 1 year ago

Apple introduced the first commercial mouse (based on a xerox idea) in 1983. All 3 original Star Wars movies were shot by then (roj released in may 1983).

by Lumpy_Principle 1 year ago

Star Trek only needed one, for a visual gag to make Scotty even more lovable to us all. Eventually, the mouse will be obsolete outside of video games, probably.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

No one could've predicted them

1968: first computer mouse demonstration. 1977: Star Wars

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Whoa whoa whoa, Star Wars happened a much longer time ago than that.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

In a galaxy far, far away.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

and they weren't hot until 1984.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Technically they could have though.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

yep. and they weren't used on a consumer computer till 1984.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

So, you think people working at the bleeding edge of FX couldn't aware of a ten-year-old development?

by Anonymous 1 year ago

yes i'm quite sure. i was around then mind you. in fact i completed a computer science degree in the 1980s without hearing about or using a mouse. Steve Jobs himself didn't see a mouse until 1979 in a private demo at xerox of an experimental system. Mice were not used for computer graphics back in 1976. In fact no manufacturer was using mice. it was as just an obscure experiment in pointing devices. furthermore, movies were not using computer workstations to generate graphics then. Episide 1 was made with practical effects. Cutting edge? yes. But Computer Graphics in star wars movies was still a decade away.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Mice aren't really effective for the control of a vehicle's systems.

I also don't believe I have ever seen a video screen... either displaying moving images or video calls. Even in the extended universe with the TV shows. If they are around... they are very rare

They also have guns with no bullets
