We should choose our Days off instead of always being Saturday and Sunday, amirite?
by Anonymous1 year ago
Work in the service industry. You'll never have a weekend off!
by Anonymous1 year ago
Retail as well. Ugh, why did I go back!? 😂
by Anonymous1 year ago
Worker nights and weekends for almost a decade and I can tell you this isn't nearly as cool as you might think it is. None of your friends or family having consistent schedules makes planning things together that much harder.

I've worked nights for a decade and personally prefer it. It doesn't ever seem to impede my ability to meet up with my friends or do things I want to do. Weekends do suck though. I worked that for a bit and was not a fan.

You have no idea how much of a privilege it is to have a set schedule...
by Glittering-Stand1 year ago
Right. This person probably gets paid holidays off too.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Probably quarterly or yearly bonuses haha

And employer provided medical insurance that doesn't have a ridiculous premium and copay.

I agree but as long as there is a caveat that it is required that a minimum of 2 days per week have to be taken off. The reason I add this is because I know I would end up working 7 days a week and would just end up with 104 extra "holidays" at the end of the year. I struggle with booking holidays off as it is!

well, take your holidays and enjoy them! most companies have some sort of "use or lose policy", don't lose your personal time.
by Anonymous1 year ago
My company has that policy, and I will take a week or so for a family vacation when it's nice out, but then I don't take the rest of them because "something may happen, and I will need to take some time off." And then I end up taking two weeks off in December when it's cold and miserable out.

Kind of hard for me teaching to say I want Monday and Tuesday off.
by Anonymous1 year ago
The kids can also pick their days off! It'll be a fun challenge to keep everyone on track
by Substantial_Gate1 year ago
The "standard days off" give people the chance to gather, whether with family, or to attend larger community events. If the majority of people don't work on weekends, when their kids are off, they have more chances to spend time together. For example, it would be incredibly difficult for a family with three kids to figure out their schedule if one parent was off on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and dad was off on Wednesdays and Fridays. Having Saturday and Sunday as the "standard days off" allows families to have a consistent schedule, when everyone can be together.

Worked in retail for many years. My days off were during the week and was almost never on the weekends. I'll take my job now with the weekends off 100%
by Anonymous1 year ago
I think having the flexibility is great. But not sure if the distribution part is important...
by schmidtkatelin1 year ago
You guys get weekends off? My jobs always gave slow days off like tuesday and wednesday lol you had to be very good friends with management to get weekends off.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Well most people have kids
by Anonymous1 year ago
That would be absolute bedlum and no company could function like that. Not even unpopular opinion just a dumb one lol
by Anonymous1 year ago
this would result in a lot of "can you come in on your day off" phone calls whereas everyone is off on sat/sun and places are closed so its safe
by Anonymous1 year ago
A lot of jobs you do choose your days....
by Anonymous1 year ago
And why are stores open mostly when people are working 9-5? I used to put in 8 hour days to get 2 hours of customers
by lucienne511 year ago
Doesn't work in the finance industry. Exchanges are closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Lmao if you work min wage they will make you work until you die of exhaustion lol

If you have your own business you can decide your own days off.

I work in IT i'm already on call all the time, that would be terrible

I think even for businesses that are M-F, like government, they could do better to be more flexible. My husband's workplace has some of that flexibility, and it's nice. It depends on the needs to whatever they work in, of course, but there are people who work x4, 10 hour days and have a weekday off along with the weekend, meaning their random holiday often turns into a nice, 4-day weekend. I think most employers could do a lot better to be flexible with hours, they are just control freaks who seem to think that because they pay us for using up our most precious, limited resource (time) that they get to control the entirety of our lives for it.

Where are you that everyone works the same days? Thats literally how jobs work, my dude..
by Anonymous1 year ago
That is normal in the automotive world, you normally get a weekday off (you can normally choose as long as it doesn't conflict with your coworkers day off) and Sunday off. Most shops have a Saturday rota as well.

I am definitely not in the same economic class as OP.
by Less-Application-6181 year ago
This is an extremely privileged opinion to have. Live at the poverty line for a while and you can pick any days off you want, they'll just never be in a row, and they won't actually be days off, because your second job will use them up.
