Disturbed's cover of Sound of Silence was terrible. amirite?
by Anonymous1 year ago
It's a fantastic vocal performance. Harmonies would have distracted from the singer's powerful solo voice and weakened the impact somewhat.
by neldahomenick1 year ago
I think they did a live version with Chris Cornell providing a second voice.
by Ok_Mud1 year ago
Never seen that. There's a live version from Conan that's a lot better than the studio version.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Never seen or heard of that. But they did do it live with Myles Kennedy as the second voice (lead singer of Alter Bridge) and he also has a fantastic voice.

Link or fabrication.

I don't like Disturbed, but this cover is fantastic. I also like the original.
by sydnibrekke1 year ago
I'm the opposite. I like Disturbed a lot, but that might be the worst cover I've ever heard lol
by AdHopeful50261 year ago
nah OP is spot on, this cover is trash, no harmony, and the emotional aspect just doesn't sell like the original, distrubed are an ok band, and david draiman is great, but this song is a total miss for me. simon and garfunkel is tough to beat though
by Anonymous1 year ago
Why must there be harmonies? That was simon and Garfunkel's thing. It's not Disturbed's thing.
by Anonymous1 year ago
That's kind of Disturbed's thing though lol
by Waino291 year ago
So I'm a huge Simon and Garfunkel fan and not in any way a Disturbed fan. I don't mind it. It's not on my music streaming rotation however.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I don't mind the original but while I'm not a Disturbed fan (most of their other stuff is different) I really like the cover. The vocal harmonies were absent because there's more than one way to sing that song, and singing it as a solo vocal allows that singer's voice to shine. Having said that, everyone's entitled to have their own preferences and is anyone going to turn up at your door and force you to listen to it?
by Over_Mushroom10381 year ago
I disagree with the first part of your opinion but as for techno, that kind of cover makes everything worse.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Don't worry. There's a remix, Ciril Remix, that is much more terrible.
by Low-Broccoli68911 year ago
I agree. It was hot garbage and I hate how everyone keeps saying it was so awesome
by Danielle111 year ago
You do realise with the bad wolves cover Dolores gave it her ok and was supposed to sing on it before her death. No need to be so cynical. If the original artist thinks it ok more weight behind it than some random.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Yes I'm aware...but as a consumer I'm allowed to like what I want and have opinions on it as well. They might not hold the weight of that goddess. But I'm still allowed to have them.
by Anonymous1 year ago
It's one of the only songs/covers that lul's my baby to sleep, so I freaking love it.
by Anonymous1 year ago
It wasn't even silent smf

Music for people who don't like music

Music snobbery is so unappealing in a person.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I'd say an un artistic soulless cash grab to get a hit is unappealing in a musical artist.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I never need to hear that song again
by Anonymous1 year ago
As a massive Disturbed fan, I agree. Its by far their worst song, entirely unlistenable to me
by Lednertianna1 year ago
I liked it.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Almost as bad as Deftones covering The Smiths.
by tbailey1 year ago
Unpopular opinion: the original is corny too. For the sole reason it's too overplayed, and that defeats it's whole purpose of being a intimate, personal experience.
by Anonymous1 year ago
It is truly awful
by Next_Plankton1 year ago
It's a terrible cover that takes everything good about the original, chugs it in the trash, then replaces it with a bunch of self-centered vocal flexing. It's embarrassing.

S&G > Nevermore > Disturbed
by Small-Letterhead1 year ago
Disturbed has done many covers. Most of their albums have at least one. They don't do them in the way it was originally, which would be boring. They sing it the Disturbed way, as they did with Sound of Silence. However, I agree. I like the song And Disturbed, but I wasn't particularly fond of their version. Plus, I think it gave Disturbed the wrong kind of attention which affected their future music style. Evolution is a dumpster album and the spawn of the attention SoS garnered them.

Absolutely true
by Anonymous1 year ago
I agree, but my music taste is stuck in 1973.
by CharityEastern1 year ago
Pentatonix's version is great though!
by Anonymous1 year ago
I was unaware that you personally not enjoying something qualifies it as "garbage"
by Anonymous1 year ago
Everything Disturbed does is terrible so it tracks that this would also be bad.
by Anonymous1 year ago
The true unpopular opinion here is that every version of that song is terrible :) I'd take Disturbed's over the original, but they all suck
by Happy-Stress85551 year ago
Agree that this is the true unpopular opinion
by Pschuppe1 year ago
I find it embarrassing. I love Simon and Garfunkel but I always found Disturbed kinda cringe, so a sincere cover of Simon and Garfunkel is extra-terrible. My stepmum likes it so I have pretended it's good to save her the embarrassment of listening to cringe

I'll pretend to like the reply to save you from embarrassment.
by Anonymous1 year ago
you don't actually have to reply to me, but if you want to get the last word, then the floor is yours
by Jamel051 year ago
Ok
by Anonymous1 year ago
The remix is even worse
by Anonymous1 year ago
I like it, but I like the original more. It's just a going for a completely different vibe - the original is bleak and haunting, this one is huge and bombastic.
by qankunding1 year ago
I dunno. I'm not a fan of Disturbed's style, nor of their cover, but "trash" is a bit far. Peter Hollens and Tim Foust did the best cover, I think.
by Destinygoodwin1 year ago
Go hit up YouTube and look up the Pentatonix version. Something tells me you'll like that far more.
by Nelsonhackett1 year ago
I absolutely agree. It's like symphonic butt-rock. It sucks all the life and beauty out of the original.
by Unlikely-Sweet1 year ago
All i can say is, that this is not an unpopular opinion, you are just wrong.
by Real-Actuary1 year ago
I don't like how a song called Sound of Silence grows increasingly louder with every verse (in the cover). In the original, it just washes over you, as I feel it should. It's one of those "I disagree, but respectfully" sort of things.
by Anonymous1 year ago
This is the song I point to when I talk about bad covers. And not only was it popular, a huge amount of these people think it was one of the best covers. Just because you like disturbed, doesn't mean this was a good song. It is so very bad in so many ways.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I don't like Disturbed. I liked this cover and tried some of their other music after hearing it and couldn't stand it. Don't write off people that like things you don't as fanboys, it's very tedious.
by Various_Tie1 year ago
I like disturbed and yeah it's a horrible song.
by romaguerafelix1 year ago
My best friend said it was better than the original. Everyone has terrible taste except me.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Hahaha my coworker loves this aong. His music sucks
by Anonymous1 year ago
I hate it too. I hate his voice (as a millennial I grew up with Disturbed and always hated it), I adore the original which probably somewhat influences it and I couldn't escape it for so long.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I have to agree it's not as great as most people make out.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Not an unpopular opinion at all. It's what stupid people think 'good' vocals sound like.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Yes, it’s not good, at all. It’s very cringy and overproduced to an extreme degree. It fails, in many ways, to accomplish what the original was able to. Disturbed’s version has that modern, commercial, pop-metal sound that kids, who never developed a discernment for music, like. Adults who praise this cover are those exact kids who grew up still not understanding music. They’re the same people who think bands like Linkin Park, Papa Roach, Evanescence, Kid Rock, Korn, and others in that same arena, were the pinnacles of excellent music. I think people should like whatever they want but not be afraid to admit that them liking something has no bearing over it being good or not. It’s subjectivity vs objectivity.
