+35 Tarantino was a good in his role in Pulp Fiction, amirite?

He was excellent as Richie in From Dusk Till Dawn (1996). I also liked him in the two episodes he filmed for the show Alias, as well.

He was an especially unlikeable character in Pulp Fiction. He just came off as some whiny a-hole who dropped the N word completely unnecessarily.

But was his character not supposed to be an unlikeable asshole? Like an annoying little brother who thinks he has authority over Vincent and Jules because his big bro is around.

That's not a role that is going to get you praise though. Also it's hard to judge his actual acting abilities just off of that. Maybe it's because he's sharing the screen with 3 really iconic actors but he didn't seem all that good to me in that role either.

Isn't that basically just Tarantino in general?

"It's not unnecessary." Yeah, you're right. It had to happen. Absolutely no way around it. 🙄

Naw. Your right dude. The whole storyline would have fallen apart if some random white guy with no other scenes or context didn't stuff a few more N bombs in there.

Damn right it would.

QT's worst was his attempt at the Aussie accent. That was comically bad, but maybe that's what he was going for, since the entire movie plays like a really bizarre dark comedy. but yeah he's not that bad. he's about as good as most directors that insert themselves into their movies.

It would have been better had the character been played by Steve Buscemi

Yes, he's pretty good at playing himself.

Tarantino is disliked as a character in his own movies because they never make any sense, and reek horribly of a man who's trying to live out less-than-desirable fantasies on screen where he can hide behind the "Well it was just a character in a movie" excuse. His characters always seem to exercise some kind of power that Tarantino himself would never be able to wield. He got a lap dance from Selma Hayak. He got to drop the N bomb a bunch in Pulp Fiction. These sorts of things. It makes you wonder if he writes the characters to be unlikeable, or if he himself is unlikeable and these characters are a way for him to live out his latent fantasies, consequence free - or at least with some sort of shield he can hide behind. I personally believe the latter, and I think most folks do. I also have read plenty of gossip articles that seem to claim he's a total slimeball behind the scenes as well, which adds up in my head. He's always seemed that way to me. Hell, he just LOOKS like a slimeball if you ask me. If it weren't for his incredible talents as a director, I'm fairly certain we'd have either never heard anything at all about this man, or we'd have heard of him in the police blotter for sexually assaulting someone or beating a prostitute to death, something of that nature. He just seems like the type. (One dude's opinion, obviously. I'm not trying to claim any of this as factual, quite the contrary. Its probably all BS - but this is how Tarantino exists in my interpretation of the world.)

Yea I suppose theres some good points in that.

I mean, you could say something similar if the guy was auditioning people to be a creep and drop the N-word, right? The scene with Salma Hayek is a different matter, clearly. I'm probably in the minority in that, if it were me, I would have hired an actor to play that role. Salma is beautiful and all, but casting her in a role where she would have to interact sexually with me is not something that I could do. That said, if this is the standard for being a slimeball, I think we could call most guys slimeballs.

If you were in his position, and could cast anyone in the Salma Hayek scene, would you not have done it yourself? I think most men would have.

If he was not a pretentious prick he may be more likeable as an actor.
