+44 People who hate on In-N-Out fries don't know that they can order them cooked crispy, amirite?

by Constant-Hunter-7409 1 week ago

the fries aren't salted because it allows you to salt to your liking My liking is for it to be salted by the person pulling them out of the grease. Once it hits the table, it's too late.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I also use way more salt than necessary when I have to salt my own fries vs salting fries straight out of the frier. I've never had In and Out but one of my biggest pet peeves is unsalted fries.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

My 'stupid fries trick' is the salt the ketchup I dip them in, solving the salt sticking problem.

by hirthegreta 1 week ago

This is the way.

I love animal style fries while my wife likes the normal stuff. Hence I haven't had animal style fries in awhile. (Why not get it on my own: because I rarely ever eat out without the wife)

by Constant-Hunter-7409 1 week ago

You could… order your own fries?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Just setting OP up for bankruptcy!

by Leamraz 1 week ago

It would probably be a lot of extra food that they wouldn't eat. I know we don't need two orders of fries.

by robynschulist 1 week ago

Animal style fries is where it's at.

by bettyedietrich 1 week ago

From what I understand the big issue is that they aren't blanched after being cut before being fried, so they retain a lot of starch. Also most places tend to have pre-fried fries. Optimally you want to fry them twice under different temps.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Wouldn't it help to soak them in water?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

It definitely would, if they did perhaps less people would call their fries trash.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Yes you can taste a mouthful of starch. It t would be a pretty easy problem to solve

by Remarkable_Camp_6127 1 week ago

They are not blanched. That is the key reason.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

It's the combination of fresh cut potatoes and vegetable oil. Since they're not blanched and fried twice like other places they don't get that crisp shell, and the vegi oil doesn't fry as hard as other frying oils.

by Constant-Hunter-7409 1 week ago

Agreed. Worst fast food fries.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Good fries are par cooked and then fried at higher temp

by janlesch 1 week ago

i love in-n-out and will never convince anyone that it's good. the lines are already long enough as is!

by Anonymous 1 week ago

TIL that at In-N-Out I have to request that my fries be cooked.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Cooked more to be accurate. People enjoy it as they provide it by default too.

by Constant-Hunter-7409 1 week ago

We discovered them but honestly, they're not that much better. They kind of just turn into airy shoestring potato sticks... and start to pick up more of a burnt flavor. I'm split between those and just having them regular where I'm actually eating what feels like real potatoes than what came out of a Pringle's can. But like others' say, Animal Style covers a multitude of potato sins.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

in-n-out is not good fast food. there are far better fast food places around, but there are also some far worse. it's mid at best.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I absolutely love in-N-out fries and I never get them extra cooked. Tbh tho I've never really understood why people don't like them.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Excuse me sir, yes, I just wanted to let the chef know I prefer my chicken cooked, please. Yes, fully cooked. Please tell them.

by Significant-Case-158 1 week ago

That's a false equivalency, it's more like "sir I'd like my steak cooked well done, not rare". Bring the case that the fries (as they are served) are safe to eat and as intended by the business

by Constant-Hunter-7409 1 week ago

The real answer is you can get them animal style. The only way I eat them :)

by Gutmanndenis 1 week ago

Them grilled onions under a blanket of cheese are just magic ✨

by Constant-Hunter-7409 1 week ago

Ummmm I want one right now

by Gutmanndenis 1 week ago

What I'm hearing is that you don't like their fries, but you know what to tell the workers there to do to improve them.

by finn63 1 week ago

It's a service that they offer, they literally have buttons for it on their tablets. You're not going to be asking anything they don't offer in terms of service.

by Constant-Hunter-7409 1 week ago

I've also ordered them twice fried and they were willing to do that for me. Combined with animal style and I'm a happy man.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Twice fried brings it the closest to what people expect from restaurant fries. I just appreciate that they provide the various options for their food.

by Constant-Hunter-7409 1 week ago

They are the best. First thing I do every time I get off the plane in Cali.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

ANIMAL STYLE animal style fries Animal style burger Lean into the gooeyness

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I don't care what anyone says In N Out fries are bad. I'll get a Neapolitan shake any day but no sauce can fix those fries for me. I want them hot and salty already, not putting packets of salt on dry fries and hoping they stick.

by HospitalNo3094 1 week ago

They still taste like cardboard though.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

You're not the first person who has told me this. I've tried it. And nope, that just makes them warm for 6 minutes instead of 3. And even for the brief monument they're warm, they're still soggy on the inside and not crispy on the outside. Even that way, they're still the worst fries I've ever had. I'll stick with just a burger and a shake to avoid the disappointment of the fries.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

It's not that. It's that they are so tough and starchy.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

No, they are still bad. Well done fries have always been a thing there and always still sucked

by langworthestefa 1 week ago

Dude thank you for the In n Out hacks, I'll be trying these next time I go!

by Anonymous 1 week ago

That double bag is clever, but how will you "unintentionally" reach for fries as you're driving back?

by Constant-Hunter-7409 1 week ago

I don't like the cut and or lack of thickness of the fries. Taste is fine. Doesn't mean I want an exaggerated serving like i'm at Five Guys. Just prefer a different cut is all. The move is to get In-N-Out Burgers and fries from Jim's. Not saying Jim's fries are elite, they are just better and an option on the way.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Fries well done with spread packets to dip them in 🤤

by brianne72 1 week ago

What an unpopular opinion.

by Haunting_Formal359 1 week ago

If a restaurant is only good when you know the secrets, it's not a good national chain.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I'm convinced people who hate in-n-out fries are just waiting until theyre cold and soggy to eat them

by Morissetteeleno 1 week ago

I feel it's the contrarian anything to do, like "I'm much better by not enjoying this thing other people like". Like cool, but why spread it out?

by Constant-Hunter-7409 1 week ago

lol wait you believe people dont know about asking for crispy food? that alone is an unpopular opinion based on every kitchen ive worked in. also, as youve pointed out, they dont finish cooking the fries

by Guilty_Lemon 1 week ago

Ew, even worse

by Limp_Value 1 week ago

chopped chillies is the only way to eat a double double

by MedicalComposer1762 1 week ago

They still suck. You have to understand the science behind what makes a good French fry. Gotta blanch it first, fry twice and freeze in-between the frying.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Well done in n out fries are my favorite fast food fry. Yeah they're not perfect but I still demolish them

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Oh, we're aware. I grew up eating in n out, and no, their fries just go from bad to tolerable.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

The only way I'll eat in n out fries is animal style. It's like they were meant to be served like that. Once you do animal style fries there's no going back to regular.

by Super_Emergency8874 1 week ago

Yeah. Get that double double mustard fried and you have yourself a oralgasmic lunch lol.

by Super_Emergency8874 1 week ago

Can I have longer fries? No? Can I request not to use vegetable oil?

by Careless-Scheme 1 week ago

You can ask them to cut up a longer potato for you, tho I don't think they'd switch up the cooking oil for you (didn't know you could make this kinda request at restaurants)

by Constant-Hunter-7409 1 week ago

Once upon a time when McDonald's was still using beef fat to fry their fries, you could request switching to vegetable oil instead. Beef fat was superior but I was using this trick to guarantee the fries are freshly fried. But yeah vegetable oil is really bad at making fries.

by Careless-Scheme 1 week ago

I'll agree to that, vegi oil is not great for fries, and I sure do miss it when McDonalds used beef fat. Same with BK's old fry recipe

by Constant-Hunter-7409 1 week ago

I don't like whatever oil they fry them in, it tastes like lays potato chips. Burgers are good, but fries are trash

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I know. They still suck. Good fries require a double fry method. Most places get around this by freezing them after the first fry. In n out doesn't do that.

by mohammeddare 1 week ago

Lmao no. It's average food at good/great prices

by Anonymous 1 week ago

"Overpriced"? I can accept overrated, but where do you get food cheaper without some kind of discount?

by Embarrassed-Let-8 1 week ago

I've had them extra crispy and they still suck. In fact every thing I have ever tried from there has been gross.

by Beautiful_Average855 1 week ago

Really? I mean not liking is one thing or average but gross sounds like you either spit it out or refuse to take more than 2 bites and regardless I just don't see how in n out is gross but to each their own

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Crispy doesn't equal better. If I wanted to custom order so much I'd go to a sit down not a fast food restaurant. Honestly nothing you listed would fix the general flavors

by WrongIllustrator6904 1 week ago

To each their own I guess. People who dislike In-N-Out dislike it with a passion, I find it quite enjoyable myself in regards to fast food.

by Constant-Hunter-7409 1 week ago

Yes. French fries are a processed food. Slicing up a potato and dumping it in a fryer is not how French fries are made. There are probably 150 steps involved between an Idaho spud ripped from the ground and my mouth at McDonalds, all of them completely necessary.
