+33 The most effective and unfortunate way to get people to commit to driving safer is they have to experience a close-call or worse an accident, amirite?

You'd think so, but unfortunately, that doesn't work.

I second this. Unfortunately, a close call, or similar, only make many people a safer driver for hours or days at most. Obviously a generalization.

If this where the case, repeat DUI offenders, repeat speeders, repeat road ragers wouldn't exist. Unfortunately its a deeper issue within these people that needs to be fixed before their driving can improve.

I don't think it deserves the label effective when it involves the person at hand almost dying, but I take your meaning. Personally I am curious how effective red asphalt type videos are, the ones where they show the aftermath of lethal accidents in all its brutality. Watching those does not involve almost dying, at least. I'm not aware of any studies on this, but if someone knows more I'd be glad to read about it.

Being involved in an accident only makes someone a safer driver for about two months. Then their likelihood of getting into an accident goes back to what it was before. If someone is a reckless driver and causes an accident, they're still more likely to be a reckless driver and cause more accidents afterwards.

We need to seriously start being way more strict in the US and just start taking away people's licenses when they drive recklessly. You want to be an asshole and put others at risk because of your stupid ass ego? License revoked.

That is true... I still think most drivers too will know or recognize when they are the ones at fault but will keep it to themselves still blame other drivers

Crazy driver here and I can tell you those do nothing but having a kid on the way makes a difference.

Hate thinking about that but you're probably right

Maybe look at it knowing that other drivers are parents and children themselves. Declaring that you're a crazy driver is just announcing that you're not only an asshole, but well aware of it and just don't care
