You don't deserve a refund if you simply don't like the way the food tastes, amirite?
by Anonymous1 week ago
I can't disagree with that.
by Flaky_Bonus22061 week ago
I can! I don't, but I'm fully capable of disagreeing.
by Remarkable_Unit1 week ago
Is that a thing people do?
by Royal-Wave-22361 week ago
Douchebags do. Not regular people
by OnlyPea1 week ago
I think a lot of restaurants would rather the customer have a good experience and come back. Especially with cocktails. They're making their margin even if they pour the first drink down the sink.
by Name191 week ago
Well, not if they do it every time, but for a couple of whiners here and there, sure. Cost of doing business.
by Anonymous1 week ago
I don't think it makes you a douchebag. Obviously you can act obnoxiously and be a douchebag while doing anything, but the simple act of saying you aren't enjoying it and would like something else isn't bad, particularly at higher end places. If you politely say you aren't enjoying it, it's an opportunity for the restaurant to bring you something else and have you remember it as a great experience. You'd be far more likely to refer friends or come back yourself if they replaced your dish with something you enjoyed; especially compared to the case where you just didn't enjoy a dish and left.
by Anonymous1 week ago
If you buy something and consume/destroy part of it you should not be able to refund it.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Imo it also depends on the restaurant. Ngl I might be the douchebag for this take, but I don't feel bad for any chain restaurant, return whatever you'd like.
by Trey081 week ago
I do think that makes you a bit of a douche. It's a chain restaurant, good quality isn't the greatest anyhow.
by Anonymous1 week ago
I agree with this honestly! Did it at your local mom and pop shop? Not cool. Did it to the chain restaurant located all over the world? Don't really care. Not that i'd do this personally but these companies make millions and pay their workers pennies. I'll be sure to tip them nicely! Don't feel bad that a selfish mega-corporation is losing money though.🤷🏾♀️
by Anonymous1 week ago
I don't understand how anyone would handle it any other way. "I didn't like this." "K"
by Royal-Wave-22361 week ago
Some
by Anonymous1 week ago
That would be the last time I went anywhere with that person
by Royal-Wave-22361 week ago
it be the last time you ate at my restaurant, if you cart at least give us an explanation of the problem so we can fix it why would i want you to come back to complain for a discount
by Anonymous1 week ago
In my experience as a waitress when I was younger, people like to eat at least half of it first. Then they complain about how terrible it was. So basically they eat enough to be satisfied then try to get out of paying for it. I got to where I wouldn't even try to deal with those people. I was quick to get a manager to deal with it.

I went to a Vietnamese noodle place once and ordered a bowl of noodles with my parents. Didn't know that all of their main options all contained cilantro... I don't know if I missed it on the menu but I usually can spot that word a mile away because I'm one of the few people genetically disposed to hate it... It tastes like soap to me I can't handle it at all. The server noticed I kinda gave up on it after a couple bites and came to ask what was wrong. I apologised profusely and said I'm sorry I didn't see cilantro in the ingredients part... She brought me a fresh bowl without it and still offered to waive it and only charge us for my parents bowls but we said no and paid full price anyways.
by Anonymous1 week ago
I've sent food back because it had cheese on it. Cheese was not listed as an ingredient & I can't digest it
by Anonymous1 week ago
Same here.
by Stangorczany1 week ago
Weird, at the ones I go to (at least the ones I can think of) it's always been basil and it's always been off to the side for people to put in themselves. Very nice of them to be that accomidating, but also refreshing to see your family's classy response.
by EntrepreneurStrong961 week ago
Vietnamese food usually has several kinds of fragrant herbs served with it
by Anonymous1 week ago
So my sister is a another one of those types of people she also thinks it taste like soap and cant stand cilantro. Good to know I have something else I can joke on her about.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Then you get mocked for being a picky eater. Listen, I'm not made of money, I'll order what I know. If I've got extra money, then maybe I'll experiment
by Anonymous1 week ago
Yup, and it sucks!
by Anonymous1 week ago
That's the nice part about not having a very discerning palette. Just about everything so I don't have a fear of getting something I won't like.
by Ivystamm1 week ago
Are the jungles of Belize not expansive? Fairly small as jungles go?
by Anonymous1 week ago
It was a joke, just some playful ribbing on an obvious typo. 😂
by Anonymous1 week ago
Haha I figured, but I was so disappointed to see that I actually wrote expansive! haha
by Anonymous1 week ago
Thank you
by Anonymous1 week ago
I agree if it's something you're trying for the first time and just don't like it, but if it's something popular like a normal everyday dish that they just made horribly, or way too much seasoning or something they messed up during the cooking process then they probably should make it again the right way or refund you.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Yeah if something wasn't cooked right it should be remade
by Anonymous1 week ago
If it's offered, I won't turn it down. But I would never ask for one. Even if they made it wrong, I wouldn't want a refund unless it's impossible to fix without replacing.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Unless the server highly recommends it that I'll "love it". lol And while I do agree about not getting a refund, as someone who's worked in restaurants, I also believe in good service. If the person is pleasant enough, where they're eating it, and truly don't enjoy it, to where they don't finish it and would like something else, fulfilling that request instead isn't out of the question either (meaning I would only charge them for one dish).
by Anonymous1 week ago
Yep agreed. Return steak that isn't the correct doneness. And anything questionable that could make you sick
by toy221 week ago
I agree but this has happened to me before and the restaurant offered to take it off my bill. I ordered a cocktail at Olive Garden once and it tasted absolutely awful. I swear it was 10% mixer and 90% dark liquor. I tried to power through it but I took 2 sips and couldn't finish it. The server came over and asked me if I liked it and I said honestly no…then the manager came over and was questioning me on what I didn't like about it. The whole thing was awkward.
by Anonymous1 week ago
They probably wanted to know why you didn't like it so they could work on it. Maybe they had a couple of complaints and were trying to tweak it.
by Anonymous1 week ago
I went to some random burger place once and ordered their wings… they came in a sauce that tasted like actual vomit and stomach acid… To be polite(idk why tf I did this) I ate half of it, said I was full, and then went to throw up, cause it was so incredibly disgusting. Always regretted not asking for my money back for that one. Nothing about the menu described it as stomach acid. Their burgers were perfect, and none of my friends had bad food- Only the chicken wings. What would you suggest I do in this situation, given your opinion?
by Anonymous1 week ago
Once when to a steak restaurant and a couple walked out after eating the majority of the meal because "it wasn't good enough" (couple of pricks)
by Daughertyzaria1 week ago
As someone in the food and Bev Industry it's not that big of a deal, like at all. It's a business that on average makes say 10k a day. It's also not all about serving food if you take pride in yourself and your kitchen it becomes more about serving satisfaction than it ever does with food. Also as an adult who makes my own money why would I pay for something I can't or won't eat.
by Anonymous1 week ago
I've never asked for a refund. But every place I've ever sent something back and ordered a different item has offered to comp the first item. If they didn't offer, I'm not going to ask for a refund.
by Anonymous1 week ago
This is a popular opinion.
by Cultural_Dog_34051 week ago
Unless it has cottage cheese I'm finishing my damn plate
by Anonymous1 week ago
Especially if they eat the majority of the food anyway.
by True_Elk_18351 week ago
Is that actually an unpopular opinion????
by Anonymous1 week ago
No

Duh
by Anonymous1 week ago
Reminds me of the popcornopolis guy who wouldn't refund the ICEE. "You learned your lesson, we all make mistakes." Dude was not having it lol

lol Todd Howard.

I have returned food exactly once. 25 years ago because it was insanely salty. Other than that, I deal. I just won't go back. My time is kinda valuable at this stage of my life and there's no point in arguing or complaining. So I never ask for a manager or write a review, just won't go back. Simple
by Anonymous1 week ago
So I agree with you to a degree. If it's as advertised the. Fine, I'll eat it even if it's wasn't great. But if you have ingredients on there I didn't ask for( cilantro as someone who it tastes like soap for), or it is just incorrectly prepared in some way cold, meat a wrong doneness, etc… or was made out to be something that it wasn't mixed seafood salad with a bunch of fish and no other seafood. I'd ask for it to be remade or refunded.(though I probably wouldn't on that one because fish is great, though I would mention it without requesting something be done) But if you just don't like it that's on you I agree.
by EveningFix71531 week ago
Only idiots do that
by Anonymous1 week ago
Not unpopular.
by Shoddy-Affect1 week ago
There's a fine line between something being made incorrectly and not liking the way something tastes.
by Anonymous1 week ago
For a similar situation, at a bakery/coffee shop I worked at, there was this lady who came into buy a pre-made sandwich. First she told me to give her a discount because she was the mother of my shift lead's bf (she wasn't even there) I told her that I shouldn't but she was gonna give me a hard time, so I just gave it to her. She come back in a few minutes after saying she wants a different sandwich just because some of the honey mustard dropped on her shirt, I tried to tell her that it wasn't a reason to her another sandwich for free, and once again she wanted to be difficult, so I said whatever, get another sandwich.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Restaurant owner here, i wish it worked that way.
by TraditionalTrash1 week ago
Ordered pot roast in the wrong place once. Didn't eat much, paid without complaint, tipped well. Never went back.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Am I the only one that eats my food in shame and put a smile on when the waiter asks because I'm too embarrassed to say I didn't like the food I ordered? And then tip 20% because I feel guilty about it?
by Starkchristophe1 week ago
I agree, I'd just give it to someone else who likes it
by Accomplished-Quit1 week ago
That's Fair. Errors are One thing but yeah- You get what ya ordered.
by Anonymous1 week ago
I won't say you "deserve" it, but if I know that a restaurant is willing to offer a refund if I don't like the taste, then I'm far more likely to eat at that restaurant, and I'd probably pay a couple dollars more. It's basically including insurance with the meal. Having said that I've never done it but it can be a business decision.
by leonorarath1 week ago
By the time you hit 30, you should have tried all the foods by then.
by Every-Carpenter-7531 week ago
Pretty sure this is a popular opinion unless the only people you ever interact with are Karens.
by Anonymous1 week ago
I mean if you think that's bad most corporate retail locations let you return anything for any reason. Don't like the shade of makeup returned, don't like the way the lotion feels returned, pain relief patch didn't seem to work return the rest of the box. I hate when people do this yea corporate allows it but one you are just wasting the product as it now goes in the trash instead of finding someone else to use it. Two it is just one of the many reasons that costs increase for the rest of us.
by CorrectTailor1 week ago
You chose....poorly.
by Bartoletticecel1 week ago
Its up to the restaurant manager to make that call. Not the server.
by Anonymous1 week ago
I agree, and in my experience the only time I've been given the option of ordering an alternative for no extra charge, or having the uneaten meal comped was at the insistence of the waitstaff. I'd never expect it or request it.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Definitely an incredibly popular opinion
by toyfelicity1 week ago
This is unpopular?
by Anonymous1 week ago
looks like a popular opinion to me.
by Anonymous1 week ago
That's a popular opinion among those of us who aren't garbage to small businesses
by Anonymous1 week ago
Only in America is this even a thing.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Not true. I order sushi in Japan and they forgot to cook it. I made them take it back and make me a burger.
by Ricobrown1 week ago
I actually disagree with this. I've never sent a plate back for not liking it, and the only waiters who have scolded me for that have been in Europe (a variety of countries).
by GreedyAd12811 week ago
How could you be scolded for something you have never done?
by toy221 week ago
I was scolded for NOT sending it back.
by GreedyAd12811 week ago
Oh that is something a European waiter might do. Interesting
by toy221 week ago
Picture this: the waiter comes out and asks "How was your meal?" And you say "I hated it." I'm guessing the waiter proceeds to say "Well why didn't you say so earlier?"
