I think you are over thinking this one. I personally wouldn't because it would feel cheesy, and her answer is not going to change depending on if you are standing or kneeling, so I wouldn't be too worried about that of all things if I was proposing.

It's funny how ingrained that tradition is. Before when I proposed to my wife, I said I wasn't going to go down on one knee, and then when the moment came, I found myself on one knee. I don't know why or how but that's where I ended up.

I think it's a nice tradition if you really want to do it. I'm so glad my husband didn't do that. It's just not me.
