-48 Tom Cruise was a better actor when he was young, amirite?

by mcclureevie 1 year ago

He also did great in Days of Thunder

Collateral is another great role where he's playing against type.

I have the same issue with Bruce Willis. Every once in a while he did a great acting job but more often than not he'd phone it in.

Yeah, he's been in some good movies but now just playing action hero for his own amusement

I don't think he's ever been a great actor, he (or his agent) just really knows which roles to take that compliment his style.

His performance in Magnolia is incredible and so unlike anything else he's ever done. It really takes advantage of his energy and showmanship qualities and turns them into a deeply frustrated, angry and sad person who you go from loathing to, me personally, pitying very much.

His best performance in terms of pure acting

by cjacobs 1 year ago

Was he young in Magnolia?

by Specialist_Sir_6703 1 year ago

he's awesome in Legend

by Anonymous 1 year ago

I don't think he was that young in Collateral. Wish he would take more roles like that

by Anonymous 1 year ago

He plays the same character over and over...and over.

You're right.

i just watched eyes wide shut, best thing I've seen him in

I watched his recent Mission Impossible movie, it was not good. Just a bunch of I'm Ethan Hunt super spy... so cool... I did like Mission Impossible: Fallout though that one was good.

It's been an obvious effort to cultivate a very specific image. It's unfortunate because he actually plays the opposite roles better. Edge of tomorrow, interview with vampire, war of worlds, collateral, magnolia etc Those roles are either evil or vulnerable and not the sanitized clones of mission impossible that has been 90% of roles last 10+ years.

He was probably a better person before he hooked up with Mimi Rogers.

"Tom Cruise won't come out of the closet!!!"

All the right moves is a favorite of mine of his.

Tom cruise never made sense to me. He was only good as like a weird fairy boy in Legend. Other than that he's just short and not cute either.

Tom Cruise should have won an Oscar for his performance in Born on the 4th of July

His films were better, but that only coincided when he was becoming a powerhouse at young age and given great scripts as every big name producer was trying to cast him in their film. I'm not saying Hollywood is ageist, here (they are), but he's not going to get the same kind of roles at 60. Although, he's still one of the most charismatic actors ever. I think even a twenty something Tom Cruise in the 2020s would still be the biggest box office Star year-in and out, at worst one of them.

how is this unpopular? dude took much more challenging roles in terms of acting in his younger days his movies of the past 15 years are all action movies

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Agreed….. I'm not the biggest fan regardless.

by StatusEconomy7206 1 year ago

He was so good in Rain Man. That's a really good movie

by Anonymous 1 year ago

He was a better actor when he was younger, but I never felt him to ever have been a good actor.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

You obviously haven't watched a lot of his movies

by Anonymous 1 year ago

Watched more of his movies than I care to have.

by Anonymous 1 year ago

He certainly made more interesting choices in the 80s, 90s and 00s
