+17 All grocery stores should have people dedicated to help bag your stuff AT ALL times and ALL lanes. amirite?

This has never been a thing where I'm from. Also I prefer self checkout anyway.

No reason to freak out over bagging your groceries

You don't bag as the person checks your items out ? Anyway, yeah it would be neat, but those extra staff won't pay themselves.

I try my best!

One thing that I do is that I put my items in the bagging order on the line, makes it way more efficient.

I shop at ALDI so I always do it myself, but short staffing is a thing. It's unreasonable to expect the store to have every lane staffed with two people at all times.

The problem isn't short staffing. The problem is they don't hire anyone to bag groceries anymore, despite the fact there are definitely people who need work.

Who needs work? Unemployment is at all time lows. The only people without jobs are the ones who won't/can't work.

Grocery bagging has always been a go-to job for people with intellectual disabilities, and I'm sure there are plenty of people who could use a simple job. Maybe the ones who can't do other work would be able to do the grocery bags.

Completely unreasonable just wishful thinking 🤗

Aldi and other discount grocers are the exception. But at full price grocers there should be two people on every register at all times. And a bagger at self checkout would pay for itself!

I don't like strangers touching my food

Who tf cares if somebody is behind you? As long as you arent deliberately trying to hold the line up they can suck it. You're there shopping and buying stuff just like they are

Do you ride the bus? Most people in the US drive their cars to grocery stores and I don't really understand why you need bags at all. Just leave the items in the cart and then take the cart to the car, put everything in the car. Put the cart back, and when you get home take the items inside and put them away. With the exception of many small things I don't understand why bags are so common.

I have a mix of two big reusable bags and then I get the ones the store provides. I then use the plastic bags around the house for things like bathroom trash cans. They come in handy.

i tried to when i was a bagger but the stores treat them like maids and pull them around to help with everything all day long. honestly, they know the store better than anyone else including the managers themselves, lmao

I'm from a small town so we had some of these things. And reflecting it was a nice community building aspect to see those friendly faces. I didn't realize until I moved to a big city how it wasn't as common or a "thing of the past"
