-23 Lettuce does not belong on a burger. amirite?

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Lettuce adds some freshness and texture

by Reasonable-Major5977 2 weeks ago

It's the crunch, if done correctly. I like a burger fine without lettuce but it's denser and more mono-textured. Wilted lettuce is gross though

by murrayadolf 2 weeks ago

I know it sounds weird, but the little carrot coins that come with canned jalapenos are good on a burger. They have great crispness and impart a unique mild flavor.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

You mean like the ones that come with tacos?

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Try broccoli slaw- 10/10 crunch Even better on a bbq sandwhich (shredded beef or chicken)

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Spicy pickled carrots are great. Pickled radish is good on a burger too. I'm a fan of most pickled veg; cauliflower, parsnips, green beans, beets.

by Acronin 2 weeks ago

I get my crunch from the tasty onions and pickles on my burgers.

by Big-Lobster 2 weeks ago

Great options, I'd lose lettuce before either of those

by murrayadolf 2 weeks ago

Yeah, the fact that it is tasteless is a feataure, not a bug.

by Same_Ear 2 weeks ago

Be... Bethesda is that you

by Significant-Box 2 weeks ago

Shredded lettuce also is great to keep sauce from dripping off

by florenciohettin 2 weeks ago

And color as well

by Comfortable_Gear5781 2 weeks ago

I love lettuce and practically all vegetables, so I disagree. Burgers are so much better with lettuce, tomato and onion. It adds flavor and texture, so it isn't only bread and meat.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I'll have to agree with everything except for tomato. I can't stand tomatoes in my sandwiches i feel the raw flavor overpowers the rest. It's also too wet.

by Resident_Echo_645 2 weeks ago

the only way i can eat tomato on sandwiches is if it's sliced so thin it basically doesn't exist. done right, it adds the perfect amount of flavor, but most places use thick slices and i may as well just eat the tomato by itself at that point

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I like a large tomato like a hothouse so 1 slice is as large as the burger bun. Multiple slices of tomato just isnt going to work for me, too slippery.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I usually go for beefsteak.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I have no idea what kind are being used. All I know is sometimes I get a very slight tomato flavor, which is perfect and compliments the other ingredients, and then sometimes it's the only thing I can taste and that kills it for me

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

This is so weird, because onions are like that for me, but definitely not tomatoes. I can't really eat onions anymore for digestive reasons, but I always disliked raw ones because whatever they were in, their taste overpowered everything else

by Upper-Highway5178 2 weeks ago

I love cooked onions, but mostly avoid them now :( But I've never perceived tomatoes as having a strong flavor. Taste buds (and their differences in different people) are so weird!

by Upper-Highway5178 2 weeks ago

Yeah I see what you're saying. I can't stand the tomatos i grow on my house for burgers. But their great for a BLT for example. Tomatos are weird.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I'd argue that it's important to use a CRISP tomato. Normal tomatoes are too soft and slimy, but when you add a crispy tomato that has a bit of snap, it's perfect.

by Acronin 2 weeks ago

yeah tomato makes sandwiches slippery

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I have to agree with everything except onions. I cannot stand them period Tbh it's pretty hard to live in a world where like 1/2 of dishes contains onions

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I like lettuce and onion, but I don't think tomato belongs on a burger, the texture isn't nice for a burger, it gives the burger more of a soggy texture. Also never been a huge fan of the taste of raw tomato, especially when I was a kid I hated it. Now I don't mind it in a garden salad or something, but I don't think it belongs on a burger.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Agreed. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills every time I have to ask for no tomatoe

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

This is true. It is soggy. I am just biased cuz I'm in love with tomatoes.. I'd have them on anything

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

A properly seasoned tomato is not soggy. But most people dont do that

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

We have the standard.option of a BLT or a BELT so they definitely belong on a burger. Also if you get a works burger then it should really have tomato and beetroot too

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I have to disagree with tomato there, it completely overpowers the flavor on a burger, and it's way too wet

by Accurate-Recording90 2 weeks ago

Sometimes I love me a plain burger. I get the frozen 100% beef patties from Sam's club. Throw it on the grill frozen, toss some grill seasoning on it. Turn, flip, add seasoning. Foil it for 10 mins, toss it on a bun and eat. Bouncy texture all the way through that pops between your teeth and is seasoned perfectly. Oh God. So juicy. Delicious.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

It's not there for flavor it's there for crunch.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Yes! I was thinking the same, I like the crunch from the lettuce! The taste is the burger and other condiments

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Interesting. That also makes for an argument for thinly cut, deep fried onions. I've seen them on burgers, but I've not tried them. Maybe I should.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

If the person eating it likes lettuce on the burger, then yes it does belong

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Because texture is just as important as taste in most cases

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Cheese is definitely not optional for a burger, it's one of the most essential parts of a good burger. I also love lettuce on a burger, but a burger without cheese isn't a proper burger.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I know someone who hates cheese on burgers with a passion. I still question their sanity to this day

by Dependent_Bet9794 2 weeks ago

So do I, and he's a chef! But, he grew up Orthodox Jewish, so never had meat and cheese together until he was older

by Upper-Highway5178 2 weeks ago

I don't know what a "proper" burger is but a good one can definitely have 0 cheese

by Arielsimonis 2 weeks ago

Because you agree or disagree?

by Accurate-Recording90 2 weeks ago

I hate lettuce on anything hot! It just gets soggy and gross

by Distinct_Present 2 weeks ago

It's not supposed too. You picked the wrong type of lettuce or you made the bugger way too long before eating it.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I agree. Lettuce and tomato have zero business on a burger and actively make them worse. It feels like they're there just to sell the "burgers are sandwiches" crap. Sometimes certain greens like kale can be good, but lettuce and tomato? Get that salad outta here.

by Effective_Nose_5168 2 weeks ago

I agree, when I make burgers I put spinach on it instead of lettuce because it actually has nutritional value and flavor

by Reanna56 2 weeks ago

Came here to report that spinach is much better than lettuce in most scenarios.

by bskiles 2 weeks ago

op is 5

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

So when someone has an actual unpopular opinion they're insulted 💀

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Lettuce is fine. It's tomatoes that are the real villain

by goreilly 2 weeks ago

I was about to include tomatoes as well lmao

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Gotta have beetroot but

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I agree tomato doesn't belong, but I do think lettuce does belong, it adds a nice crunch

by Accurate-Recording90 2 weeks ago

You don't always put an ingredient on something for taste alone. Lettuce adds texture.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

YES IT DOES ITS DELICIOUS. LETTUCE. IS. DELICIOUS.

by Pretend_Head_8858 2 weeks ago

I'm a huge fan of burgers and I never go out of my way to ensure lettuce is on there. Sometimes it kinda gets in the way even because it can slide on condiments n stuff. Couldn't agree more

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

"Coleslaw mix" is cabbage and carrots lol.

by Routine_Ask_7623 2 weeks ago

Depends! We have the basic one in Quebec and stores almost always also carry a second one with shredded brussel sprouts, kale, red and green cabbage, carrots and broccoli stems. It's way better than carrot and cabbage alone. I've seen the same thing across the border in NY & NJ as well.

by Responsible_Cut3963 2 weeks ago

I'm with you on this opinion

by remingtoncrooks 2 weeks ago

Got a burger in Iceland that had cucumbers on it. It was quite tasty.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

people like it for the crunch but i'd rather have kale. lettuce gets soggy too quickly

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Lettuce ruins literally any sandwich. If I want freshness, I'll add cucumbers and/or pickles. Lettuce is a gross filler

by Kind_Tone 2 weeks ago

I'm so sick of the big fruit-veggie industrial complex trying to trick everyone into thinking that we need them to be healthy when all you really need is pure meat 🥩 🍖 Greedy bastards

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Exactly. Put spinach on it like an adult !!!

by Hmonahan 2 weeks ago

Lettuce has a distinct flavor, that's why too much of it ruins anything. Maybe move beyond the pallette of a child.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Idk man, for neurodivergent people like myself texture aversions can actually be a super big deal, it's not really something you can "get over"

by Zboncakemely 2 weeks ago

Unpopular indeed

by Earlenemills 2 weeks ago

Depends on the lettuce. Sad wilted leaf? Nope. Fresh crunchy iceberg? Adds a nice texture.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I personally hate lettuce but put whatever floats your boat on your burger. It is a taste not an opinion

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

You are right. It belongs inside, not on.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

As someone who doesn't like lettuce, thank you 🙏🏼 I have to admit, it's not that bad in some instances, but I'd prefer w/out. I'd rather have tomato/some sauce in my burger to make it less dry

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

"Lettuce has no taste" lol. Ok, so now we are supposed to care about food opinions from someone who has no taste buds? What's next, a deaf person sharing their opinion on music?

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Spinach clears lettuce 10/10 times.. it has nutritional value and taste better

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Makes everything wet and soggy. Yuck to lettuce on burgers.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I feel like it's holds the juice from the tomato. Patty, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

You right OP

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I agree. No lettuce.

by Big_Company 2 weeks ago

Shredded lettuce should be banned from all culinary uses. Nice, fresh, crisp, leaves of iceberg make a burger better. It's for texture and freshness, not really about adding flavor.

by Apprehensive_Fig8752 2 weeks ago

Shredded lettuce is great in a ton of stuff, you wanna put whole all pieces of lettuce on your tacos dude??

by SafeNo3205 2 weeks ago

The lettuce provides a moisture barrier to keep the bun from becoming mushy.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Nah, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise is a classic on many sandwiches for a reason.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Anything can go on a burger if you're brave enough (and a smart enough cook to set it up right).

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Just had a turkey burger with clto. Was bomb

by WestAd7723 2 weeks ago

And I had raw onion because it stinks.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I could eat a burger with or without lettuce., it just depends on the burger. Iceberg is best for crisp clean texture and crunch.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Sometimes. All burgers require consumption, so it's a tough debate

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

It belongs with the tomato and the tomato belongs with the burger .. it's just like that sometimes

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

It's there to make you have a good poop. Fiber 😂

by Character-Weird-7060 2 weeks ago

"It has no taste" "It makes it taste worse" Bro choose

by Efficient-Notice-652 2 weeks ago

Big Mac without lettuce? You're crazy.

by Klingdomenico 2 weeks ago

If it has no taste, then how does it make it taste worse???

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Damn. Why don't you want it to be unpopular lmao. As hard it is nowadays

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Lettuce belongs but keep that gooey tomato off my burger!

by Cadekohler 2 weeks ago

It actually balances the flavours out

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Yes in fact it does.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Lettuce burger wraps are amazing. Love the crunch and the freshness adds. Im type one diabetic so carby buns dont agree with me so got hooked on lettuce wraps early on in my life. You are right they had no taste, just adds a crispness i guess.

by Thick-Advertising 2 weeks ago

Lettuce is stupid in general.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

i ask for XTRA lettuce (and crunchy onions) on my burgers LOVE how the crunch of the vegetables plays off the soft juiciness of the meat, and the meat patty has to actually have TASTE, like fresh-grilled taste.. ....when you get just the right bite, it's pure burger heaven ❤️

by Gerholdkeegan 2 weeks ago

Depends on the lettuce. I'm not a fan of just a big ole leaf of lettuce, but I do enjoy crispy shredded lettuce.

by Ok-Abbreviations 2 weeks ago

Well you're wrong, it adds a great texture to a burger, it also has a good taste if you ask me, I will however agree that shredded lettuce does not belong cause it just makes a mess

by Accurate-Recording90 2 weeks ago

Okay

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Whut? It will not taste the same. Lettuce is ONE of the essentials of a burger

by shanahanstewart 2 weeks ago

Crunch factor

by nicklaushodkiew 2 weeks ago

It's the crunch, thats the benefit of the lettuc.

by Weird_Soup_7044 2 weeks ago

It contains fluid. So that combines with the bite of the burger and multiplies the taste goodness by a factor of 4.3. It is an absolute must. Otherwise, your burger experience is muted and drab.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Lettuce > tomato

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

it has no taste (...) it makes the taste worse Choose a lane, pal. Also, texture. Taste is not everything.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

lettuce absolutely has a flavor

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

You do you bud but I like lettuce and it's good for you

by modestafisher 2 weeks ago

Yeah, thats unpopular to me at least. I looove lettuce on burgers, hell, I have even switched the buns sometimes for some large lettuce leaves. If you can't taste the lettuce then you must have had bad lettuce

by Lumpy_Artist7494 2 weeks ago

I hate lettuce on burgers and sandwiches. High quality greens are ok. But that shredded iceberg lettuce is bleh. And I don't want a crunch. I want a juicy burger. But it's definitely unpopular, people will outright say they value a "crunch" factor in a sandwich. I don't care what people put on their sandwiches but I do hate that it's so popular sometimes a fast sandwich place will start putting lettuce on out of habit before I can tell them no, and they ruin my poor sandwich.

by Winter_Dark5875 2 weeks ago

Yes! I agree. Lettuce adds nothing

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I like mine with lettuce and tomato. Heinz 57 and French Fried Potato.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I guess you don't like texture in your food

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Lettuce adds a great flavor counterpoint and unique texture. It goes great on a burger as long as its fresh and crisp.

by Public-Magazine-877 2 weeks ago

You sure spelt "mustard" wrong

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

That would've been too "popular" lmao

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Lettuce adds the crunch.

by Otherwise_Task_3760 2 weeks ago

I love adding spring mix to my burgers. Like a burger with a side salad

by Honest_Selection_862 2 weeks ago

I feel this about tomato, and I love tomato, but it's so unnecessary for a sandwich

by Juliochamplin 2 weeks ago

Agree to disagree

by Disastrous-Tooth 2 weeks ago

Is this Mateo Lane? Come clean.

by Usual-Programmer 2 weeks ago

Ever hear of texture?

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Lettuce does have flavor but you might have just obliterated your palate from drinking ketchup for years

by Many-Road 2 weeks ago

It clearly adds texture

by Lopsided_Control_525 2 weeks ago

Being an adult means sneaking in veggies where you can lol

by oconnellnatalia 2 weeks ago

Hard disagree. Its hard to beat a crispy fresh lettuce in a burger. Actually, to me, ketchup is what I don't put in my burger.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Of course I'm not, it's an opinion right?

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Big Mac's are delicious. If you don't like McDonald's your own version is probably even more delicious.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

your own version is probably even more delicious. True, but only if you get the sauce right! It's not just thousand island dressing, and a lot of the "copycat" recipes out there are terrible!

by Routine_Ask_7623 2 weeks ago

Mayo, mustard, pickle juice, pickles, paprika, sugar, onion, garlic.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I prefer a handful of coleslaw mix. keeps much better and has a lot more uses

by Ok-Childhood6058 2 weeks ago

Oh wrong Adds moisture, crispness, bliss

by RealBorder5522 2 weeks ago

It's good if everything is fresh. If you're reheating leave the lettuce off (add fresh after if you're inclined). Most veggies in a burger don't reheat terribly well I don't think.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Lettuce is edible water and water is cool

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Beef patty, bacon, fried egg, pickles, cheese, fry sauce. Boo to the rest.

by BigAcademic2915 2 weeks ago

I like the crunch and bit of freshness lettuce provides. Cole slaw can be good on a burger too.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Coleslaw on a fried chicken sandwich is my jam

by ziemedalton 2 weeks ago

Its the mouth feel 😉

by Ok_Acadia_3835 2 weeks ago

Lettuce has no taste? WTF kind of produce does your country grow

by Eunicejaskolski 2 weeks ago

I have to disagree. It's more about texture for me. I love adding lettuce, tomatoes, and onions to my burger to give it more of a crunch. Burgers with only meat and bread have a soggy texture and I can't eat it 😅

by Frequent-Cost6071 2 weeks ago

I respectfully disagree with you

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Uh, lettuce has taste

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

It adds texture though, extremely important

by Direct-Screen-2493 2 weeks ago

No. Tomatoes and ketchup don't belong on a burger.

by Ok-Relief-1782 2 weeks ago

It adds fiber for bowel movement and health purposes. It's not ideal to eat just meats and bread like that

by Playful-Cheetah990 2 weeks ago

It's not done for taste it's done for texture

by Popular_Cress 2 weeks ago

Unpopular opinion: lettuce has flavor. Haven't y'all ate a salad before?

by Jorge92 2 weeks ago

Lettuce does not belong on anything warm, ever.

by kathryncarter 2 weeks ago

The only healthy part of a burger 🥲

by sydnipredovic 2 weeks ago

The meat, if it's real meat, is very healthy.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

The tomatoes and onions would like a word

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Burger without lettuce sounds so gross to me, like you want just a mushy wad of meat and bread?? it needs freshness and crunch!!

by Fantastic-Resort-427 2 weeks ago
