My family has a private graveyard, hidden deep in the woods of N.C., that's been there since the 1700's. That little plot of land is priceless to us.

I can assure you, the dead don't need a single god damn thing. Every one of those graves is for the living.

Personally, I'd go after golf courses first. That and office space.

But they get used and are useful. Graveyards? A HUGE waste of space.

Yeah people disrespect the living just go full circle and disrespect the dead as well 👍🏿

Funerals and graves / memorials aren't for the dead - they're for those left behind.

It's sad that you feel so little connection to your ancestors, that you think that their contributions to the world and to your genetic makeup are so unimportant that traditions such as grave burial and markers have little to no value. I am thankful that my ancestors did what it took to create me, and it's cool to be able to visit their graves and at least remind myself that they are not completely forgotten nor unappreciated.

Unfortunately the dead definitely need the space. The human body is extremely toxic and if disposed of improperly it can cause loads of disease, infection and pollution. That's one of the reasons widespread infections happened because the corpses helped spread it. :/ If it weren't for that I'd definitely agree. Hence why I plan to be cremated or donate my body to science.

Yeah, when my time comes I don't need to take up space so people will remember me.

I completely agree. There's a lake about four hours from the house I grew up in that I spent a lot of time at as a youth. I'd way rather be scattered there and have a bench with a plaque set up on the trail then have my family pay $1,000s for a plot. I like the idea of people in my life being able to go there and enjoy it's beauty as much as I did.

Think about where we live now and the remains of long-dead people who were buried under. We're literally walking on the burial sites everyday. Cremate everyone and cast them into forests and oceans. Dust to dust.

Found the mole person.

I never understood why people go to cemeteries to remember loved ones. Their grave is just their bones. I'd rather look at pictures and videos of them

A corpse rotting underground may not be great if it gets into the water supply
