People who get PTO have no right to complain about having to take off work. amirite?
by Anonymous1 year ago
Shouldn't your rate as a freelancer take that into account though? You should be having a higher salary that you are putting some amount away for times where you need to take time off.

I can complain about everything I want tho
by Anonymous1 year ago
You certainly can. That's why my opinion is unpopular.

I got mad reading this until I remembered that I literally and voluntarily joined this group.

The PTO is part of your pay package in reality. In the field I work in, freelancers get a higher hourly wage than I do as an employee. This is justified because they don't have my benefits package.

Isn't being a freelancer a choice? It also depends on how much PTO TBH

They absolutely have the right to complain. You have a right to complain about their complaining.

I exercise my constitutional right to complain whenever and wherever I want

I don't agree with your opinion but I'm in a similar boat.

Hence why my opinion is unpopular.

Me and my friend have the same job, she's full time and I'm not. She had to take a week off to recover from a surgery, covered by the insurance she gets provided, and complained to me that she had to use most of her PTO. Really pissed me off that she didn't even realize that she was fortunate to have them in the first place, if it had been me I'd have to lose a week's worth of pay.

You can complain about breaking your leg because I got shot. That's what this sounds like.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Well, it is an unpopular opinion, after all.

I switched from being a freelancer to a salaried employee about ten months ago. If you look PURELY at my hourly wage, I took a big pay cut. If you add in paid holidays, paid time off, taxes, and other benefits it's a SIGNIFICANT pay raise. Idk what field you're in, but for me switching to salaried has been an improvement in almost every way. But anyway people can still complain, if they're needing to use their PTO on something they aren't interested in doing. The PTO is part of the compensation package, not a gift. Also why would a friend's wedding be unexpected?

You're being paid noticeably less than your regular pay. A normal week has overtime. PTO doesn't. Not even saying it shouldn't be that way but pretending people get paid the same on vacation is asinine. PTO isn't free money. Its part of your pay that is taken from hours you work and divided up to days you don't work. You should be making a higher base wage as a contractor.

I'm hourly with no PTO, it's not really a big deal. Time off is just part of the budget.
by Anonymous1 year ago
I applaud your ability to have that view of it.
by Anonymous1 year ago
It's more work for me to use my PTO than it is to just be there.

People who don't have real jobs have no right to complain about other people complaining.
by Anonymous1 year ago
Are you saying freelancing isn't a real job?
by Anonymous1 year ago
Agreed. They don't.

Imagine complaining about getting paid to do your chores. Lol.

Imagine complaining about someone being upset about losing some time with their family and thinking you're making a point. lol
