People wear multiple layers on the upper half of their body when they're cold but not their legs, amirite?
by Anonymous2 weeks ago
I do if it's really cold. Although my guess for a reason why is because it's a lot less convenient to take off extra pants than a jacket once you get inside

And I might add that I believe insulating the torso possibly makes a bigger difference in how warm we feel

Yeah core body temp is where it's at, gotta keep the organs warm especially since legs usually carry a higher fat %

Was going to say essentially the exact same thing

I take it you've never worn long johns

Core temperature is a big one

🤨 When those compression pants things appeared in men's wardrobes, I started wearing them under my pants when it's cold. Very effective.

I wear long-johns under my pants in the winter if I'm gonna be outside a while.

Game changer.

If your core gets cold the body will slow blood flow to your extremities and prioritizes blood flow to the core to keep you alive. Keep your core warm and your extremities will receive more warming blood.

In theory, maybe. In practice, no, my torso will sweat long before my extremities get warm.

Depends how good your circulation is

Fleece lined leggings, with pockets, are amazing.

Speak for yourself. Recess duty in below freezing temps includes an extra pair of sweats and a pair of snow pants.

Guess you never heard of long johns huh?

Never been in an area above the artic circle? Wool tights are a thing, and the trick is to use a winter coat that goes to your knees. I rock my sneakers wool socks, legg warmers and a long thick coat.

Legs are, by comparison, the largest body part. It's why someone with a nearly nonexistent bench press can move body weight with their legs. You have much more blood flowing through your legs vs arms at any given time.

Don't the legs have the largest arteries in the entire body? Gotta keep those babies warm, or it's all downhill!

Hailing from the northern Midwest, 2-3 layers of comfy pants, wool socks and a warm hat are my first line of defense in colder weather. Then I work my way to the torso. Gotta protect the extremities, first and foremost!

Your legs have more fat deposits and thicker skin.

cause legs arent vital organs. they are inside your chest for the most part.

People don't have that many temperature sensitive organs in their legs
