In Spain you donate for free and the patients receive it for free. Because making business with people's lives is a hard no.

Here in the US peoples lives are like the largest business

I donate blood. Theres no compensation beyond some snacky foods and drinks and the occasional trinket. I dont need or want compensation.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

There could still be an option to donate it I suppose

In Germany you usually get a small compensation (around 20€), per donation and a snack, depending on where you donate.

In Romania you can get paid for that with meal tickets and and an extra free day of work from company legally. You can do that multiple times in a year.

Now this is what I'm talking about

It's called a donation for a reason.

I'm calm …. calmer than you dude

I'm not one getting upset like a child and calling people "genius" when they disagree with your ridiculous, missing-the-point opinion Can't tell if you're joking or not, but you seem very defensive. Especially if you're saying that you're calmer than me, which you have no way of gauging. Chill bro

You seem very upset at me for getting upset at him…. Do you want me to apologize for sarcastically calling him a genius…. Because I will

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Smh it's a quote from the big Lebowski dude …. Its a joke

Yes, wanting a donation to be payed is dumb as hell.

You can get paid for donating plasma

In Australia we are offered an array of snacks and drinks.

In Romania they started giving out some vouchers for each donation in 2024, I think around $60. I find it creepy that this is how much a pint of blood essentially costs in official terms, according to our government, but it also indicates how little people must be donating overall, that the previous financial incentive of $15 had to be increased so dramatically.

It used to be for payment in some places but it creates a motive for people to donate (and cheat the tests) even if it is unhealthy for them or the receiving patients. In some places you can get travel costs reimbursed and where I went they always had an amazing supply of foods (fruits/cookies/some sandwiches) and they would be pushing us to eat plenty / take what needed to be finished that day. Which for us as healthy but hungry students was a welcome bonus.

Don't you think that'd drive up the cost to the patient?

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Hey guess what? People like donating and they like to feel like they are helping other people. That's why they don't get paid for it. It's okay to do a charitable thing for your neighbor

There is nothing wrong with wanting compensation for a service you provide? Hospitals charge insane amounts for anything, there is nothing wrong with expecting compensation for a service you provide… if they try and pass that onto the patient that is on them.

I mean...it's a thing already

Yeah that's plasma a component of blood sold by a company for various uses… I'm talking about donating whole blood for a use in hospitals. Hospitals in the US wouldn't bat an eye to charge you exuberant amounts for every little thing… so I think people who give blood should be getting compensation from the hospitals
