+22 Sloppy Joes are low quality burgers, amirite?

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

A burger and a sloppy joe have a completely different taste and texture. If you want a sloppy joe, a burger isn't going to satisfy that want and vice versa. They are two different food items despite having similar ingredients to a point.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I just realized I haven't had a sloppy joe in like 20 years. Guess I don't miss them. Remind me of school lunches.

by Forward-Solution-792 2 weeks ago

Honestly, I was never a fan of them myself, but I didn't really get a taste for barbecue sauce til relatively recently. I should try one and see if my opinion has changed.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Sloppy joes aren't made with bbq sauce lol

by Repulsive_Dot_8180 2 weeks ago

Not with that attitude!

by Old_Raspberry1131 2 weeks ago

Ooh if you like barbecue sauce then try putting a little sauce on a sloppy joe!

by SweatyLab 2 weeks ago

Try making them at home instead of using the canned garbage. It's so much better and it's just Worcestershire and ketchup.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Find a good recipe online and make your own sauce. They're pretty damn good.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Also, depending on how you make them, sloppy joes can "go further", as you're using less meat per bun.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I've personally never seen a sloppy joe with less meat than a hamburger. It's kind of the whole meal.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I mean, I can only speak for my experiences, but whenever I would see people make burgers, they would make big fat burgers. When they would make sloppy joe, they would just put like a large spoon scope on a bun. One of those scoops, is probably a lot less than your 1/3 lb burgers or whatever that people are frying up. (Maybe 1/3 is a bit big but you kind of get what I'm saying, hopefully)

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

That's like saying there is no point scrambling eggs when you could hard boil them

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Exactly, a sloppy Joe is a sloppy Joe and a hamburger is a hamburger.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I think you mean poach.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Mmmmm soft poached eggs on toast. Peak dining experience.

by Asleep_Sentence_9527 2 weeks ago

I love every egg, but this is my favorite way to eat eggs. Poaching is the absolute greatest. The way that soft yolk spills over the toast and the luxurious smooth texture of the whites... mmmmmmm

by Meghan52 2 weeks ago

Damn I haven't had a sloppy joe in years, I'm definitely going to go get one now.

by AwayYellow4573 2 weeks ago

My old middle school used to serve them in the cafeteria and they were always disgusting, has caused me to never want to try a real one ever

by Beneficial_Chest_633 2 weeks ago

I didn't enjoy sloppy joes until I had them homemade and finally understood the truth

Good A is better than Food B. Why would anyone eat B over A? I like Burritos more than Tacos despite being the same ingredients. Why would anyone eat Tacos? I like Spaghetti more than Lasagna despite being almost the same ingredients. Why would anyone eat Lasagna? It's a silly argument. Also I'm not only eating one food at any given time. Sometimes I want food B. And Sloppy Joes are delicious.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

It's not as sloppy if you toast the buns first. Speaking of which, I haven't had them in a while.

by etorphy 2 weeks ago

You know what I haven't had in a while? Big League Chew.

I had sloppy joes for dinner also. And they were fantastic. Gotta use some Worcestershire when cooking the meat.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Yup! Made some tonight. Brown onions first as well before the meat

by Gullible-Egg 2 weeks ago

by hegmannjohathan 2 weeks ago

Did mom make Sloppy Joe's again? It's a totally different sandwich.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

You can make enough sloppy joes to feed a small army of children in a dutch oven or something, and it's so, do much less labor intensive than the same amount of burgers.

by Opposite-Walk 2 weeks ago

This is an excellent point in favor of sloppy joes.

by Mountain_Bobcat 2 weeks ago

You don't like spice, don't like sauce, don't like food touching.. I think you might just be picky. And that's absolutely fine. However, there are still plenty of people who like sloppy Joe

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I know how yous likes em, extra sloppy.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

yes, making sloppy joes is worth it for lots of reasons, but quoting the movie is #1.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

This isn't even an unpopular opinion. It's just factually wrong

by Kwillms 2 weeks ago

Dude why have a burger when you can just not grind the meat and make a steak sandwich? Same energy

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I never liked Sloppy Joe's but I also never had one outside of my school cafeteria so I probably never had a good one

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

You should make some bougie sloppy joes called Disheveled Joesphs

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Ha! I literally use that moniker when giving my girls folks frozen sloppy Joes.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Hilariously (and sadly) enough, same, except I actually liked the school cafeteria version, so now I'm scared a real one will ruin my perception of the crap version. 😂

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Think of it this way. You have one pound of ground beef. You had tomato sauce , onions, mushrooms , peppers . Now you ground beef and half your daily vegetables . Now you make French fries . The. You had tomato and onion slices to your sandwich. Next cheese , mustard, pickles. Then whole wheat bread . You just turned that ground beef into a FDA approved meal son

by edgarwelch 2 weeks ago

I'd prefer to have those foods separated by dividers. It can still be an fda approved meal without ruining what makes each of the ingredients taste so good by putting all of it together. Honestly with these ingredients you could probably make a nice stew or broth, which has been proven to also be very filling.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

You need Kid Cuisine

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Because I need the sauce to cover up the fact I'm eating ground turkey and not beef 😭

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Isn't that a sloppy Jane?

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Apparently so! I had never heard of that. Lol cute

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Can't make a good burger with a pot on the stove

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Sloppy Joes taste great, but to compare it to a burger is wrong as they're different things.

by Ill-Expression7785 2 weeks ago

Wow, I'd take a good burger 10 million times over

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

More joes for me!

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

The way my mom makes it, it's basically spaghetti sauce on a burger bun lol.

by Delfina01 2 weeks ago

Hmm, toast the buns with some garlic butter and that would be great. Hell add some spaghetti noodles and grated Parmesan and that's a spaghetti sandwich (which are fantastic!) but what if one were to also add Italian style meatballs as well.

by langoshaimee 2 weeks ago

It poor people food. Whats the problem? A lot of us grew up poor.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Glorious unpopular opinion. This is the equivalent of calling a turkey salad sandwich a low quality ham and cheese. They are different things all together.

by fbarton 2 weeks ago

I visited my octogenarian father and his wife last week and they made sloppy joes. Delicious!

by Chettreutel 2 weeks ago

by Crafty-Cucumber 1 week ago

Have you ever had home made from scratch sloppy Joe's? If not I suggest you try. It's completely different with more flavors.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Sloppy Joe's were invented to budget feed. It stretches the meat to more servings and can disguise low-quality cuts.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Before we even get into this… have you ever tasted a sloppy Joe? Do you understand that they do not taste the same in any aspect other than bread and meat?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Milkshakes are drinkable ice cream

by ReceptionEffective36 1 week ago

Partially unrelated, but what part is the sloppy and what part is the joe?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I'd say this is completely related. I would also say that since the dish Sloppy Jane is the same thing but with chicken instead, I think the Joe is the beef, and the sloppy is the ingredients that turn the beef into its sloppy texture.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

What is your opinion on Sloppy Steaks?

by eveline67 1 week ago

Yes the same way tacos are horrible hot dogs and vice versa

by SignatureAmbitious 1 week ago

this belongs in… nvm we're not supposed to talk about it

by zlynch 1 week ago

Nah. It's just a totally different sandwich that's using the same meat.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Agreed with the unpopular opinion. Sloppy Joes are trash-level food 95% of the time. They CAN be decent, but it's darn rare.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Why would I ruin a perfectly delicious sloppy Joe when I can have a boring old burger?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Duh.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

This makes no sense lol. They're two different dishes, has nothing to do with quality

by Rodolfo38 1 week ago

Lower quality and yet superior in almost every way.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I think 100% of the time i ever had sloppy joes as a kid it was from a can of manwich paired with bread for dinner.

by Powerful-Pumpkin-668 1 week ago

I agree. I have previously said that a sloppy Joe is just a waste of a good burger.

by Leading_Total3281 1 week ago

My man let me introduce you to a chili cheese burger.

by Yturner 1 week ago

A. I don't think anybody thinks Sloppy Joes are classified as burgers. They are under the umbrella of sandwiches. B. I think the idea that Sloppy Joes are bad is pretty popular. How many Sloppy Joe restaurants are there? How many restaurants have Sloppy Joe on the menu? It's trash.

by Secure-Programmer 1 week ago

My dad used to make them. Only ate them reluctantly because it was food. Never had one in like 15 years, and it's staying that way.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Well that's a completely different food. Like bbq chicken is completely different from fried chicken. Same stuff but different flavors.

by Imani23 1 week ago

I feel sloppy joes are burgers with crazy amounts of sugar and it's gross

by Inner_Bite_9154 1 week ago

Sloppy joes aren't burgers. When you make a burger you form patties and often use egg to bind it together. Sloppy joes are cooked as broken up meat and then smothered in sauce and slopped onto a bun. It's more closely related to a pulled pork sandwich while a hamburger is closer to a steak sandwich.

by Dry-Relation 1 week ago

Sloppy joes are🔥🔥🔥

by spencerjamarcus 1 week ago

What the hell are sloppy joes?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

You know thats a struggle meal right?

by Kayaroob 1 week ago

Texture difference, I assume. I don't eat either but I have ARFID and know texture matters extremely when in regards to food

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I never understood sloppy joes. They're just not a thing in Aus. Here a "sloppy joe" is a jumper.

by NoTea8040 1 week ago

Different mouthfeel, different taste. Kinda like asking why hard and soft tacos exist if they are just the same.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

The meat goes further when made into sloppy joes so if you're on a tight budget it's a better choice

by StatementWeird 1 week ago

Sloppy joes are a low effort burger, there's a difference. It's one of those culturally significant foods that came out of GD and WW2. As for the quality, that's depending on how you make it.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one and they all stink. Let people eat what they want to eat. If YOU dont like Sloppy Josephs, dont make them.

by SomewhereLow5814 1 week ago

I don't like burgers, I love sloppy joes. Maybe you need to branch out from the mix? I use one with chili powder, dijon mustard, chopped up onion and bell pepper. It's really good.

by Graham06 1 week ago

I'd much rather have a sloppy joe than a burger. Also aside from that burgers and sloppy joes are completely different flavours.

by Raunedra 1 week ago

There's a lot of things that use the same ingredients as other things. Sloppy joes are awesome

by PrincipleWestern 1 week ago

Variety is the spice of life, schlongsworth.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

sloppy joes are good and a cheap option for people who are stuggling theyre also super fun to cook beating the meat apart to make it into smell pieces is a really good stress release when im having a horrible day

by Anonymous 1 week ago

How dare you!! Sloppy Joes are superior!

by AdSufficient532 1 week ago

Am I correct that this is Bolognese ground beef inside of burger patty? How do you eat that without making a mess? Knife and fork?

by ortizgunnar 1 week ago

It has tomato sauce. It's technically a vegatable according to moronic health agencies.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

If an unexpected guest shows, you can stretch sloppyjoes for another sandwich.

by Educational-Win 1 week ago

I like them extra sloppy

by Ambitious-Bowl-8327 1 week ago

Sloppy Joes are elite. It's not really a burger though if that makes sense. Let's slop em up!

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Sloppy Joes are the superior taste experience and are nothing like a burger

by Keeblerali 1 week ago

Not mine

by RentEmbarrassed3374 1 week ago

A sloppy Joe is more like a loose meat sandwich. It's not a burger

by Corrine68 1 week ago

A sloppy Joe is not a burger

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I'd use something better than 80/20 chuck for sloppy joes. Turkey works too, but Im not sure whether thats higher quality or lower quality.

by aliyah20 1 week ago

Sloppy joes are superior

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Because I want a sloppy Joe, not a burger. Weird logic.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Yeah but they taste better on a Styrofoam tray

by Thin-Neighborhood 1 week ago

If eat that garbage out of can then yeah sloppy joes suck. Homemade? Oh yeah. And it's not a burger. If I want a burger it goes on the grill and gets all the fixings. Way different.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Now I want a sloppy Joe.

by Donaldledner 1 week ago

by Demarco74 1 week ago

I disagree, but respect your opinion. Good day

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I just made it tonight. It's basically beanless chili

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Maybe they are low quality, but I love ‘em

by Anonymous 1 week ago

how is it worse quality, it's the same ground beef

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Wanted to applaud you for your god awful opinion, Sloppy Joes and Burgers aren't the same things and someone that makes a Sloppy Joe isn't doing it to make a worse burger, they're doing it because they want a sloppy joe and vice versa. That's like saying hash browns are just low quality french fries, scrambled eggs are just low quality omelets, pulled pork is just low quality pork chops. This is a bad faith argument simply because one does not satisfy the same taste and feel despite being made of similar ingredients.

by Better_Report7058 1 week ago

I agree- I hate loose meat sandwiches. Mai's Rites, Slippy Joes, Zip burgers- all of the above. Y'all can have em!

by Anonymous 1 week ago

*low quality bbq pulled pork

by geovanyschimmel 1 week ago

Sloppy Joe's are spaghetti, but with the carbs onto the outside.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I don't know how you can say its lower quality given that it uses the same ingredients. It also can be more time consuming to make. I make mine like a Bolognese and simmer the meat in its sauce for at least an hour to allow all of the flavors to blend together better and for the sauce to condense and thicken. I also prefer the sauce to be more similar in flavor to a BB sauce. But like a burger, you can also just throw sloppy joes together without much effort. Also sloppy joe is not a burger it's a loose meat sandwich which has been a staple in Midwest American homes. It's akin to eating a tuna or egg salad sandwich in that it provides variety and expands the use of a core ingredient. I don't find them remotely similar in flavor or texture. Can they be messy to eat? Sure but that's what makes them fun. When I was a kid I always ate mine with chips and would scoop up the excess meat with the chips or just put the chips inside the sandwich to add a crunchy texture. But you can also make them less "sloppy" by reducing the sauce to a thicker consistency.

As another point, If you're making a lot at once for not many people, sloppy joes reheat/keep in the fridge better imo.

by SeveralSavings2009 1 week ago

It's not even remotely a burger.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I can't ever think of a time that I wanted a burger and made sloppy joes. These are like two different things. Sometimes I want a sloppy joe, sometimes I was a burger. I never intertwine these things. Why are you?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I prefer the term loose meat sandwich.

by Anonymous 1 week ago
