I think of it like reality TV rules. Kim Jong Un is drama personified. We all know which of these two guys the producers would keep bringing back.

That's deliberate. The CCP's manifesto is pretty clear on the fact that no one politician should have any level of "fame". The idea being that famous leaders are prone to tyranny or acting more like kings and emperors rather than just being another party member, and that the people are prone to worship leaders like this which they believe is bad. Say what you want about everything else they believe, but personally I'm a big fan of this idea. And you can see the idea behind this philosophy in Kim Jong Un (who is literally worshipped by the people, people that are indoctrinated and forced into worshipping him mind you) and in US politics where the whole thing has descended into cult worship of one rickety old moron or the other.

That term doesn't mean anything to the common people, just the political scientists.

by Ancient-Twist-5995 2 weeks ago

Didn't they start teaching it in schools starting at primary?

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

This no longer applies with Xi, I think that was made pretty clear years ago.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

This is completely false, CCP opposes worshipping of religious figures but they have never opposed worshipping their leaders, see how many propagandas featured Chairman Mao and how his body is preserved after death, notice how much Xi plaster his name and images into official policies and publications…..

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

They literally put Xi's name in their constitution.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

You want to wrap that in the appropriate context?

by fadelnelson 2 weeks ago

This is coming from the same party where their founder made such a cult of personality around himself that people were worshipping mangos he handed out, and his body is preserved in a public museum to this day. The CCP also has the motto of ‘serve the people'. Yeah, no.

Bit I am sure more people would recognize Xi from a random picture than Kim

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Xi Jinping is more competent to not stand out and be a class clown, that's why he is talked about less.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

There's at least a billion people who know of Xi and are forced to memorize his sayings and works. Wouldn't that count towards your global "fame" score?

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Worst for the west direction* ftfy

by diannawehner 2 weeks ago

He has a far better P.R. team, lol.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Kim Jong Un is like a little dog that barks and yaps at everyone, Xi is a big bad dog who is thinking about who to maul but not making a move until he is sure.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Eee No, Xi is way more famous. These 2 have very little in common at first light so comparing them together is wierd However when we look deeper the two have work together for very long time But yall normal people are not suppose to know that and Kim Jong Un is famous for his isolationist politics but Xi Jinping is way more famous then Kim Jong Un and has more power. What Im trying to say is that you are wrong but not as wrong as you may think(if that makes any sense)

by Leather-Day-2150 2 weeks ago

OP is right in the sense of "Ask some random westerner in the street" who is the leader of China and who is the leader of North Korea, and you'll get way more people who know Kim Jong Un. Being famous is not being important or powerful and them working together isn't really relevant to all that here I think.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Feels like Xi actively avoids being in the spotlight

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Famous to who? If fame is about how many people know and follow who you are and what you're doing, I'm pretty sure 1.4 billion Chinese people are more aware of who Xi is and follow what he is saying or doing more than the 26 million in North Korea plus, let's say, all 300 million Americand and all 67 million in the UK. Far more famous? Most people on this planet couldnt give a crap who Kim Jong Un is. He's nothing more than a cult leader bully waiting to be assassinated. The entire country is long overdue for revolution. That is what would probably make him more famous than Xi.
