-31 Youtubers have every right to move to paid platforms (Eg.: like the case of "The Watcher") amirite?

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Exactly. It was weirdly condescending, as if the audience has been asking for upgraded production and a bigger staff. I realize "We want to make more money" also wouldn't have gone over well, but at least it cuts out the bs

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Because it's absurd for any youtuɓer to think they have any appeal outside of YouTube If they did where are they?

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Just because you have the right to do something doesn't mean other people don't have the right to criticize you for it.

I don't think anyone rational said they don't have the right to move platform, just that doing so would kill their fan support and potentially bankrupt them. Aka, dumb move.

YT to often demonetise video, it force creators to self-censorship. Ist a shame that this market is monopolised.

by Bergnaumjabari 2 weeks ago

I don't think there is a rational standpoint from which to criticize them but it's normal if people are upset

I don't think anyone is saying they don't have a right. That doesn't mean everyone else has time be happy about it. Giving people something for free and then charging for it later is just about the number 1 way to lose customers. That's PR 101

On the patreon part I do agree. On the rest I don't, I understand people might be as they would a show ending. I was too, as I said I wasn't gonna pay, I think it's entlited to act as if watching a free show is some big favour the audience was doing

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Clearly you don't see my point, if this is what you're getting from it.

by No-Scientist 2 weeks ago

Free will do be like that though. They have the right to move, people have the right to be angry. Certain people act unreasonably, other people get offended. The only solution is to wait for the dust to settle.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Yeah, I wasn't suggesting people should be forced to pay, I even said it was a bad move and I wouldn't pay

I can understand moving platforms even in dumb decisions like this one. Youtube's policies are so oppressive that the concept of moving platforms can be incredibly seductive.

by Wildermanvinnie 2 weeks ago

Its just a bad move imo. Surely they will make more money on youtube from sponsorships/ membership, they could even have a separate patreon if they want
