+41 1 million dollars in 2088 will be worth only $100,000 in 2024 dollars, amirite?

by South_Peach993 2 weeks ago

And minimum wage will still be $7.25.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

It'll probably be $7.20 somehow.

by Own-Grapefruit 2 weeks ago

With a 10:1 ratio, it could be $70/hr and it would still be worth less than it is now 🤔

by Friendly_Seesaw 2 weeks ago

Unless they lower it

by Dry_Dress6644 2 weeks ago

lol.... wages. Our grandkids will be working for Soylent Green

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Better buy a house now then. That million dollar pos will be worth 10 million then.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

It'll be a lot sooner than that

the saddest part about this is 100k today was basically the same as 80k just 4 years ago.

by Substantial-Test 2 weeks ago

Who the heck decided it was a good idea to print 80% of US currency in the last 3 years. What titheads those people are.

Check your facts

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Most dollars aren't printed. They're created by lenders issuing debt. Thinking dollars printed = dollars in circulation is a very schoolhouse rock understanding of money

by Friendly_Seesaw 1 week ago

Are you sure that's the right source for last three years? only has 2020-2021.

Look at M2 money supply.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

This is not how inflation works. That's like saying putting water in a cup makes it overflow. If you don't pour enough water into the cup, it won't. If there's a hole in the cup that flows faster than the water pouring in, it won't. Pretending like printing dollar bills contributes to inflation is overly simplistic.

Oh so this money thing is not so old after all

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I have a sneaky suspicion that the buying power of 1 million dollars in 2088 is going to worth significantly less than $100,000 in 2088. The graph sure don't feel linear.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Nah, if I live anywhere near that long I'd be 104. And at some point having exhausted all options I'll just go steal a Lamborghini and go on a high speed chase through 15 states So I get free room and board for the remainder of my life.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Sounds like the rule of thumb of "have a million to retire comfortably" is wrong now

by Anonymous 1 week ago

But if you take out $100k and put it in your floorboards it will still be worth $100k in 2088. Always the gamble of what to buy to that will hold the same relative value for that long.

by MaximumElectronic 1 week ago

except inflation rates aren't staying the same they're increasing

Forever until it's 1 zillion percent, because trends never change.

imagine looking at the state of US affairs and thinking "this will get better over time, not worse"

Average salary in 1960 was $5,600, $60,000 now.

by Edyth34 1 week ago

that was the median in 1960. median now is closer to 59000. 59228. almost $400 less inflation adjusted.

by Substantial-Test 1 week ago

$5,600 in 1960 adjusted for inflation is $59,965 as of March 2024 so the actual average has kept up with inflation over 64 years.

by Edyth34 1 week ago

ignoring how that's more than workers make now, inflation adjusted GDP is like 5x higher now than in 1960 and corporations are profiting like 8x. workers are making 1x. the labor force is only 2.5x larger. the average house is twice as much. average car is more. insurance is WAY more. could care less about how i can afford the same amount of groceries when my main expenses are more. today's $800 auto insurance would cost you $25 in 1960. yet $25 in 1960 is only 270 with inflation.
