+29 Van Helsing 2004 is actually decent movie. amirite?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Honestly one of my favorite vampire/monster movies as long as you can accept the camp factor

by Adolphusmarquar 1 week ago

CAMP factor is a diffusible, heat-stable protein produced by group B streptococci. This is a synergistic test between Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus agalactiae. S. agalactiae produces CAMP factor.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Is this like an automated response of you just wanted to share that?

by Adolphusmarquar 1 week ago

I wanted to share that I don't know what Camp factor means and This is what Google told me :D could you explain camp factor? Is it stereotyping or something like being naive/dumb? I'm lost haha

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Thanks!

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Think "tastefully tacky"

by SignificancePure 1 week ago

Camp in the theatrical sense means, per dictionary.com, "something that provides irreverent or knowing amusement, as by virtue of its being theatrically stylized and extravagantly artificial, self-consciously artless, or ironically ingenuous,"

I hear Appalacia is nice this time of year

by Ok-Cartographer-5481 1 week ago

A bit green at times but I love it

by Prestigious_Yam 1 week ago

Yes! Love this movie. Wish there was a sequel

by AcanthaceaeFast 1 week ago

Yeah. While it has some camp it's nowhere near Buffy in that department. But people love Buffy somehow...

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I also liked the werewolves and the depictions of Frankenstein monster. And who doesn't love Kate beckinsale in a corset

by Adolphusmarquar 1 week ago

Those lady vampires made me the man I am today

Marishkaaaaa!

30 years old, perfectly aged weird vampire hyperventilating noise

by Laronterry 1 week ago

My mom and I have a running gag where we'll text each other every time Van Helsing is on because for awhile it was on some of the movie channels almost every single day. 😂

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale is always a winning combination.

Hear, hear!

by Strong_Film_4248 1 week ago

I always enjoyed it. Apart from the atrocious acting by the Brides (but maybe they were going for that), it's a fun silly film.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I blame the director. Their contribution to the product had nothing to do with acting.

by Strong_Film_4248 1 week ago

You're right and I agree.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I loved it. One of my first movie dates :)

by candidamckenzie 1 week ago

Well, it definitely has one of my favourite Dracula's, so there's that, Also that redhead bride.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

This is a BAD take.

by Own_Mud 1 week ago

You don't like Interview with a Vampire?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

While I find the Underworld trilogy to be far superior (werewolf fan) - I completely agree about Van Helsing. Sadly underrated and unappreciated in a genre that is underrated and unappreciated in and of itself.

What we do in the shadows

by Evertbarrows 1 week ago

yes good but not that high up in my list ( complete list is longish so not typing out ). Again, I liked it and somebody can definitely love it way more than the ones I mentioned

by Anonymous 1 week ago

and then twilight ruined the whole vampire/werewolf thing shortly after lol

by Anonymous 1 week ago

my policy is to pretend like it never happened

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Big agree

by SafeForsaken30 1 week ago

Love that movie

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I saw Mortal Engines and initially enjoyed it. It's cool to look at, but the pro-Chinese propaganda that the west is evil and will die due to over-consumption while the east is pure and will save you……I ended up hating it eventually.

by larkinkaya 1 week ago

Always has been

by thearitchie 1 week ago

It's a great movie for the wives alone

by camylle93 1 week ago

No other piece of media has a better depiction of what a werewolf should look like

by AfraidHistorian1302 1 week ago

Oh how I miss fantasy movies. There's not a lot of them nowadays.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I absolutely loved it, I especially liked Van Helsing's werewolf form.

by Calm_Somewhere_4088 1 week ago

Love the scene with Igor and the werewolf 😂

by DifferentWater 1 week ago

"Igor, remember, do unto others..." "Before they do unto me, master!"

by Strong_Film_4248 1 week ago

Yes

by Cthompson 1 week ago

I was obsessed with it when I first watched it back in the day. Little cheesy looking back but it's still fun.

by arne32 1 week ago

I can't remember the plot but I love the visuals.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

It's my moms most favourite movie (because daddy Hugh)

by welchhanna 1 week ago

Your dad is Hugh Jackman?

by Frequent-Possible497 1 week ago

I need to rewatch this one. I loved it when it came out, but it's been a loooong time since I've seen it!

by Anonymous 1 week ago

When I was 13 Van Helsing blew my mind. I rewatched it recently, and come on.. it isn't terrible, but very mediocre. Then again if you are 13 it's a blast

by Anonymous 1 week ago

It's true and you should say it.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Decent? It's amazing.

by Additional_Split 1 week ago

Glad to know I'm not alone

by Hellervallie 1 week ago

No it's awesome!

by Anonymous 1 week ago

People hated Van Helsing? Fuuuuck ooof, that's one of the best movies ever

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I don't see how the plot is stupid. It's a great film

by ResponsibleSpring776 1 week ago

I have it on DVD, it's a really fun flick!

by Anonymous 1 week ago

It's a fun movie and iirc it was pretty low budget and what they pulled off on such a budget just stands to it more.

by AccomplishedSide3790 1 week ago

I loved it when i was like 10 (?) I think it had some pretty cool fights and good actors. Haven't seen it since though.

by Nikolausrick 1 week ago

I didn't realize that movie wasn't held in high regard, was one of my favorites growing up.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I absolutely loved that film, and still do. Apart from the Dracula character that was kinda cringe worthy and the slightly unnecessary Frankenstein angle (imho ofc) - everything was just spot on. Wonderful cast (I mean, seriously, Selene and Wolverine hunting monsters together, what more could you want?), cool monsters, sexy vampire queens, an automatic crossbow, some epic battle scenes and an overall unassuming and light vibe. I still watch it sometimes and have a great time!

by Strong_Film_4248 1 week ago

Plus all the actors are gorgeous.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

By todays standards, yes.

by Odd_Significance 1 week ago

I'd say that even back in the day it was good.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

It is a bad movie because it wasn't supposed to be a comedy. Most of the comedy was unintentional. But the jokes land so well when interpreted as jokes that it makes the experience better, sort of like The Room.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Look at the films that were coming out in the theater around that time. The movies coming out then were really, really good

by mayerbrant 1 week ago

Decent? I literally used to play the dvd on repeat I liked it so much. I probably went to bed watching that movie (on repeat) for 6 months straight. Love that movie. I was a strange kid though so take this with a grain of salt

by fishertony 1 week ago

I remember being 15, being in a metal band with my friends, and after practice, we'd get obliterated and watch this movie. Only fond memories. 10/10 movie.

by Public_Campaign 1 week ago

too much going on for many people Sadly, this is an indictment of the general population's mental capacity moreso that the film's plot, which tied everything neatly together in the end. The overall plot meshes and twists the original stories of Frankenstein, Dracula, and the Werewolf together in an unfamiliar hot mess, but it's fun and doesn't take itself too seriously. Plus, you get to see Kate Beckinsale in a corset.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I've never heard The Mummy and masterpiece in the same sentence. Fun movie, sure.

by Unlikely-Bar-3048 1 week ago

Never? There's literally like, an entire cult based around Brendan Fraser and the Mummy franchise 😅 that man is a national treasure for sure, but there is literally quite a colossal following based around him and the Mummy movies, people absolutely love them it seems

by Anonymous 1 week ago

It's pretty bad.

by Bauer 1 week ago

It was just a wrong note of camp, somehow what clicked superbly in Mummy 1&2, just fell flat. Hugh Jackman, Kate Beckinsale and Richard Roxburgh tried their best to carry it off.
