+36 Nursing students should be paid or have free tuition, amirite?

The degree I got does this as well, its not just nurses and I wouldnt be surprised if theres a good amount of other professions that also do this. Medical Technologist degrees also do this, also unpaid and in fact not only is it unpaid, we have to PAY to be able to even get the opportunity to do so.

Do you feel it's fair?

This really isn't nursing-specific. However I can't think of any other degree that forces you to work hard unpaid labour as part of your training. I did multiple unpaid placements in my undergrad (Early Childhood Studies) and BEd. And those placements counted as a course so I paid for each one. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Nurses experience all kinds of abuse from their patients, my friend has been physically attacked on the job and there's no recourse. So do teachers.

Interesting.. can I ask how many hours you had to work per week? I wasn't aware early childhood degrees required this as well

Where's the line? Why do doctors doing their residency get paid for their training?

Not unpopular

Nah

Maybe close to the end of their program but otherwise they aren't good for much and need to be supervised at all times

Interesting take.. most schools make you do a clinical placement for all 4 years
