What makes playing Videogames any different than playing the Olympic SPORT Chess?
by Anonymous1 year ago
You need to use your brain in chess. In games like rocket league or LOL you need to sell your soul to them. Also did you notice that most professional chess players are healthy and not 500lbs

Sounds like you're not actually to have a sensible discussion about this which is disappointing

YoU nEeD tO uSE YoR BrAiN iN ChESs And for gaming and most other things...

Do it then, prove it. Shouldnt take that long for you if its so easy.

i cant because i am not cracked at rocket league

Bro there are some games where you have to use your brain. Strategies are a big part in games like League and r6. The same way you have to learn openings in chess is the same way you have to learn strats in order to win

Most of the Esports members are pretty good in shape. Never seen an obese one. Football professionals play football all day. Chess professionals play chess all day. LoL professionals play LoL all day. Doesnt make that much of a difference

Couldn't you say this about any non-conventional job? "I hit a little golf ball into holes using different sized sticks for a living" "I randomly splatter paint on a canvas and sell it for thousands of dollars" "I let people watch me play games for a living" You can make any jobs sound pathetic. But at the end of the day there's an audience/need for it, they enjoy it, and they make good money off it.

"I'm a professional basketball player" "I'm a professional league of legends player" which one sounds more pathetic

The one that is watched or recognised by fewer people. This can change over time, meaning technically, it's possible that esports takes over as the mainstream professional skill expression thing to do. Then being a basketball player would be more pathetic.

That's a long way to say that you just got wrecked at Dota.

So it's a skill issue

Big one to be exact

Im not hating on esports because i am bad at games that take thousands of hours to master. I am hating on esports because it's popular enough that gets recognition by big sports organizations including the olympics
by Anonymous1 year ago
So you're saying esports is recognized by big sports organizations, the olympics, and are calling the players pathetic? Tell me, what's pathetic about making millions of dollars while also playing the games you've enjoyed all your life?

Imagine some girl asks you what you do for a living and you say "I play videogames all day and havent seen the sun for 2 days now because im a professional at fifa for example" Some girls might be into that. What do you say when you talk to women?

If they getting paid then it's not worse than regular sports. It's all entertainment at the end.

All I can picture is OP yelling "Nerd!!!" while he's lying on a beach for hours on end earning melanoma points.
by Comfortable-Fly1 year ago
I mean yeah it is cringe but I think the end goal is for esports not to be cringe. Not sure if they'll ever reach that goal though

This isn't unpopular

Amen. That being said though, I have met some, and managers that at 20 have millions, just because of a game. So like anything, if you get good enough, you can sell your skill. It's why there are so many mercenaries and assassins in the world.
