+28 Bowling alleys have quite impressive engineering given how dated they are. amirite?

A lot of engineering in the past had to be more impressive because they couldn't just throw a computer chip at it. Re: how older designs for kettles, toasters, rice cookers etc worked.

Yea it's kinda disappointing how so much clever mechanical engineering is replaced by superior computer chips

As a bowling alley mechanic. I definitely agree

You're dad sounds like a cool dude

So amazing that parts and reliable mechanics are hard and expensive to find. That's why many are considering converting to string pins with less engineering and maintenance.

Thing is they recently changed bowling machines in a major way to have the strings through the pins. A lot of bowlers don't particularly like it, but it makes things cheaper.

String pin alleys are garbage and I hate them

Wait, what?

My grandfather worked as a pin setter at a bowling alley when he was young, in the 30s. He would sit at the end of the lanes and pick up the pins and manually reset them by hand for the next bowler. Not so impressive engineering back then
