It is inappropriate when women show skin in public, amirite?
by Anonymous1 week ago
Move to a deeply religious community, then. Skin is just skin
by sprice1 week ago
I don't think kids care, if they can see a womens belly, they don't care, same goes for cleavage, they are kids, why would they care? Its really u who has the problem, not the kids. I can understand if people were naked, but just let them go around in what they find comfortable.
by Anonymous1 week ago
But bare shoulders though!? Are you sure the children will be okay?
by Anonymous1 week ago
Better just put a big bag over them, that way they can cosplay a ghost as well.
by Anonymous1 week ago
I think you're right. That's the only safe way.
by Anonymous1 week ago
yes, this way they can also learn about ghosts, and learn to feel safe around them. and maybe men should do this too, just in another color, that way we can tell each apart, I mean think of the small girls, they don't want to see hairy legs, or bare arms.
by Anonymous1 week ago
This gave me a visual of everyone walking around in different colored bags, everywhere, and it wasn't going well. Everyone was bumping into each other and running into things. I'm also high and that made it more amusing (devil's grass). I only mention that because OP would probably be highly offended. My shoulders aren't showing, but they're there though just the same, under my t-shirt.

Only if you are taught that's something wrong
by sprice1 week ago
Well, it is wrong to be very scantily clad in public. I think there's a line.
by mariela091 week ago
Well, I don't think it's wrong. As long as your genitals aren't showing, it's nobody's business but yours how you dress
by sprice1 week ago
It only made you uncomfortable as a child because you were taught it was wrong and prohibited.
by Dizzy-Design1 week ago
I mean, they are dumb. You were taught that it's wrong and therefore you as a child we're judging strangers based off clothes, that is a dumb thing to do. Growing up you should learn that it's not right to judge based on looks.

Calm your puritan titties, dude.
by Anonymous1 week ago
You know, when you're offended by things that don't even concern you in society but do give you โa bad feeling", it's more likely you struggle with your own sexuality/sexualization, not the society.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Yeah, usually you need only ask them why they consider some certain behavior "immoral" and then it usually boils down to taught bigotry. It's like, two guys holding hands will upset some people but only if they've been raised to think that homosexual relations are wrong. It goes the same way with nudity. Like usually when they talk about nudity it's like there's some sexual seduction or promiscuity angle, and that's only immoral if you think sex is immoral. While religious folks are out there complaining about how the women are dressed, everyone else is finding out there's lots of ways to enjoy life. Religion is about providing a sense of community for individuals and one way to reinforce that sense of community is to have a shared denial of desire, where showing you can deny that desire signals to the group that you can be trusted. In some religions it's pork or beef. In others it's alcohol. In some, its about sex. You're taught that your group is superior because you can resist these things, so you look down on anyone who doesn't.

I feel like people so rarely cross that line though. Like the only time I ever see really exposed clothing is at bars and clubs (which I find to be entire socially acceptable, considering those environments are designed for adults only). I'm outside every day and at least where I'm from, which is a relatively socially progressive western country, I never see anyone wearing anything too crazy during the daytime. I just feel this is a complete non-issue.
by Nbarrows1 week ago
Fair that it's a different point. I'm a woman. I know exactly how this feels. But you're right. I wish we didn't have to police this. But I'm not as strong as my sisters - I would rather just keep my head down and move on. Thank you for challenging me in a civil way! Appreciate it.
by mariela091 week ago
but there's a kernel of truth in there. ok, but then there has to be a negative consequence for someone following these "inappropriate behaviours", besides "I feel bad because I think it is inappropriate". What are these consequences?
by PuzzleheadedCover9441 week ago
We are losing those "traditional values" because they aren't inherently moral. They are a means of control that people are rejecting. It has nothing to do with what's good for children because children are innocent. Shoulders, cleavage, anklesโฆnone of them are scandalous or sexualized by children.
by khermann1 week ago
Nailed it. It's bogus morality. Personally, I'm much more upset about poverty and lousy education systems than shoulder exposure (although I hope people wear sunscreen at least).
by Casimer491 week ago
Shoulders? Really? We're not walking around with our vagina out. If you get distracted by us showing some skin maybe you're the problem.
by mspinka1 week ago
Men are walking around half-naked, yet no complains about that...
by Proud-Ad1 week ago
....we are going BACKWARDS by ignoring.... old values? Do you are have stupid? Not only is the take itself asinine, but the attempt at logic woven into it.....
by Anonymous1 week ago
Please go back to your religious town and leave us in peace. It is not up to you or other men to police our clothing.

Shoulders? Lol
by Outside-Young-5641 week ago
"Religious" & "Tradition"? Combine those two words together, & you've got: Control. Women don't dress for you! But if you really can't control yourself around- Gasp! Bare shoulders! I suggest you find a gated religious community & live there instead.
by Anonymous1 week ago
How about men? Are they allowed to 'show skin'??

by Away_Bee39091 week ago
Sorry, my Yennefer cosplay costume has bare shoulders!
by Proud-Ad1 week ago
Women only? Why you bash women, when men walk around half-naked? And not everything has to be kid-friendly. We are not living for someone's kids.
by Proud-Ad1 week ago
and not good for children or people expecting a wholesome environment Explain the damage done
by Anonymous1 week ago
Traditionalists have to explain. To their 14 year old bride how it's indecent a woman show shoulders
by Anonymous1 week ago
Yeah huh, what do you think about men walking around with their shirts off and their pants around their ankles. In full view of children
by Anonymous1 week ago
Exactly. You and me think the same.
by Proud-Ad1 week ago
What about men letting a big ol' fat belly flop around? Yes, women shouldn't dress like whores, but men shouldn't dress like slobs either.
