+33 People always recognize that they were a sperm before being born even though the egg did the same if not more work…, amirite?

actually a good point. We associate egg with being just a shell because of connotative reason, but just as much of your DNA is in the egg. however your sex is solely determined by the sperm.

but just as much of your DNA is in the egg. More of your DNA is in the egg. All your mitochondrial dna comes from your mom.

If we're being nitpicky, the existence of fraternal twins is a counterpoint to "during conception, there is only one egg"

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Oh no they generalized most pregnancies not leading to twins and didn't mention 2.3% of births

300.000? So just 300 but with really good precision?

Outside of the US people often use . instead of , for thousands-separators. IE instead of writing 999,999,999.001 like it is in America some places write 999.999.999,001 for the same number. This is primarily because of a Mathematician named Leibniz and the use of a dot as a symbol for multiplication.

Europeans use decimals the way Americans use commas in numbers

You weren't before the sperm and egg combined.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

And you were an egg for much longer, since the egg that made you was already formed in your mother's ovaries before she was even born. Your dad's sperm was at most only a few weeks old when it made you.

Sperm move on their own, so of course that is where the idea comes from. The egg on its own does nothing.

So explain it better Einstein

The egg also moves. Quite the journey from ovary → fimbriae → fallopian tube → uterus. Not to mention the ebb and flow of hormones regulating the menstrual cycle. Or the wild way of epigenetics that allow eggs to go into stasis during childhood to preserve them throughout a woman's reproductive life. Honestly, the egg seems like it does way more and with more purpose than a million blind dumb sperm wiggling their way forward to destiny.

The sperm seems more "alive" because it moves and looks slightly like a tadpole so it just gets anthropomorphised

You can't have spam, eggs, sausage, and spam without the spam...it wouldnt be spam, eggs, sausage, and spam then, would it?

Which creates more interest? The egg that sits idly by or the gladiator coliseum death struggle existing all around it? Are you not entertained? .

On the other hand, the egg is a long lived entity already by the time it fuses with the sperm, while the sperm may have only been alive for a few minutes. So you've lived in the egg longer, than you've lived in the sperm.
