$1 vs 1$, amirite?

cuz people who live in other cultures where the sign is placed after the number instead of before it will mistake the same with dollars and besides it's also because of pronunciation. it's 1 dollar not dollar 1.

I was gonna say, I've never seen someone put 5$. OP must come from a family of immigrants or be around friends who are immigrants cuz I can't think of any other reason everyone he knows does this.

Why would you think that's the norm though? Genuinely curious. Price tags have $XX.XX Same thing for checks when you go out to eat or shop online.

I work in finance, I can assure you the $ goes before the number. I have never seen it used after the number.

It hasn't. I see it as an error sometimes, but it's not normalized. Other currencies do put the symbol after the number so you may be encountering people from other countries who forget or don't know to swap it.
