Is work the only place you get your passion from?

by Schaefernigel 1 week ago

Mainly, these days. It used to be school. This weekend, I spent about 8 hours working without a reason to do it and felt much better than other weekends.

This sounds way more depressing than retirement TBH

Why? Should I drink alcohol while I gossip about family/neighbors, calling it "a great night out"?

The fact is that most people enjoy not working. You seem to be the opposite, and others like you will feel similarly, but for most people, working is something that must be done, but no one wants to do it. It's good you're an exception. Not like retirement is mandatory for most jobs anyway so you are welcome to work till death if you'd like

I dont want to work at all in my life if I can avoid it LMAO

So what's your passion, traveling to get scammed in Milan or walking in the park?

Pie.

Are those the only options?

It's definitely not sheet metal fabrication which I'm currently doing for 40hrs a week or at least it's not the kind I get paid to do at work. There are personal fabrication projects I find rewarding but the time and energy to do them is limited after doing it all week.

Do you only find your passions and life via work? If your govt is paying your pension that sounds like communism to me.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I am, and my company does have a nice pension.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

That's awesome. I wish I had one.

It sounds like a tax system where the current working people pay (most of the) pensions of retirees Do you only find your passions and life via work? That's the most important way to prove and differentiate yourself. Sure, I have friends and family, but they don't give me the same satisfaction. I also don't care that much if I have children or grandchildren.

I find my passions out side work. I only give the minimal amount to work so I can have a life and find joy with the people I live not the people hired to help make boss rich.

This is one of the saddest things I've read on here.

Nice try Corporate America.

And that's why I'm already starting to work on my coast in to retirement career. It'll keep me busy, make a little money, and doing something I really enjoy.

This is why many old people don't last long after retirement. People need a reason to get out of bed in the morning. You have to find something else after you are done with your normal job or else for alot of people retirement ends up being how you are describing it.

WHAT? Work does not make my life "meaningful." I work SO THAT I can have a meaningful life. I do not dream of labor.

Retirement to me is "great I will finally be able to live life and not im just waiting to die" working a 9-5 is F-ing soul crushing.

My dads retired, he loves it.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

You're kidding right? If work is your main satisfaction, I feel sorry for you

by UnhappyStranger6340 1 week ago

I'll have 36 years in next week. I can't wait to retire
