-27 I'm not obligated to sell you a car for your price range, amirite?

by zoiegleason 1 week ago

This seems more like a rant than an unpopular opinion. I think most of us feel the same way you do. We all go through this when selling our cars. It's frustrating.

Why do some of these people get angry about it and take it personal? Because there's a cultural expectation that you haggle over the price of cars.

I completely agree. If a price is fair, pay up or be on your way. I hate haggling. Doing it, and people trying it on me. Waste of time and a needless test of my resolve. My resolve is iron. Not gonna happen buddy. You buying or get lost.

But they also don't have a right to retaliate with uncivilized behavior either.

by zoiegleason 1 week ago

Yes they do, it's called free speech. You have the right to disengage. I don't like idiots any more than you do, but you can't control other people like that. You can control your actions. I advise doing so by refusing to engage with those types of responses. Ignoring an unreasonable reply can be a powerful negotiating tactic : an "ok then buy the other car" or simply leaving them hanging can go a long way.

One dude I had to straight up threaten with trespassing because he was at my house and STILL tried bullying me into a lower price.

by zoiegleason 1 week ago

Doing the deal at your house seems like a bad plan, lol. Maybe meet at a neutral location with surveillance like a mall or police station?

Might be a good idea

by zoiegleason 1 week ago

Yeah people just think they're suppose to haggle with cars, and especially with private sales. You could add $200 to the price and then take it off if they argue. That's what the dealers do.

I believe it is "haggle".

by Realistic_Mind_484 1 week ago

Yeah and they're not obligated to buy it.... this is like basic business.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

But they are obligated not to retaliate by vandalizing or stealing from me

by zoiegleason 1 week ago

Haggling is part of bartering. If you don't like it then keep the car forever

by breanna82 1 week ago

Never trust a private car seller, and NEVER pay what they are asking.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Because no one ever sticks to "firm price" and it never hurts to make an offer. Hell the last car I bought the guy said 8k firm. I gave 5500 cash and he was happy.

This is a private sale. If you don't like it then leave
