On 1 Jan 2101, probably a bunch of people will simultaneously become the next people to live through three centuries. Some of them will have been born in 1999. Some will have been born in 2000 (which was the last year of the twentieth century, not the first year of the twenty-first century). Others will have been born earlier — perhaps in the 1980s or even 1970s.

Isn't 2000 the 21st century? Year 0 is the first year of the first century, 99 is the 100th year. So year 100 will be the first year of the second century.

That might be logical, but there was no year 0. The year before 1 AD (or 1 CE, if you prefer) was 1 BC (or 1 BCE).
