I think its more about the visual of something which was shrouded in darkness (whatever idea which was previously not seen) suddenly being illuminated. It wasn't there and then in a moment its clear as day

That's not why the light build signifies a good idea.. it's the symbol of a "bright idea" bright is a synonym for smart. So the phrase bright idea has been around longer than the light bulb. Light bulb can convey bright pretty easily so you get bright idea...
